Just put my postcode in, clicked streetview and can see my house, front and back jst like a good photo. I can tell the picture was taken between Sept & Dec 2008.

Just done the same (with my postcode, obviously) and the picture is at least 3 years old!! :o

Whilst it is a good thing to have a look at it does feel like another step towards 1984 for me.

Did have everyone at the office having a play with it today though.

Told some colleagues about it and they were shocked that it was so detailed. Offered to show them on the computers and they pooed themselves saying that we'd all got an e-mail WARNING of excessive personal use of works computers, ala facebook vierwing and the like. 1984! They'll be tagging us next.

I notice that the face and vehicle registration number blurring, is extremely flawed. One end of a car's number plate maybe blurred, but you go past the car and look back, and the number is completely visible and recognisible once you zoom in. Not that I would worry, in any case, but some people would find it a problem.

Some people would find anything a problem.

absolutely correct. Further to p my last post, I did find a way around it and I too noticed the number plates. Person I was showing raised their eyebrows at it, but I pointed out that it is actually possible in real life to walk past someones car and read their number plate qute legally. It is quite harmless imho and extremely impressive.

Ponty metioned Stoneham Lane. Go to Stoneham Close, facing Stoneham lane. Look left towards the bus stop and zoom in, you will clearly see a St Georges nipper waving frantically at the camera. He is probably now a legend in the palyground. I wish i'd seen it going around and made myself immortal too.

have to say Im very impressed.

Funny thing is while we were looking at our house, we saw our car etc, but then went to look at a friends house, our friend and my missus were stood in the drive way looking the "google car". So she is chuffed now :)

I've just noticed the JD Wetherspoons in Ocean Village with a banner saying it opens on 29th Sept

So September 2008 seems pretty accurate

I'd agree with Sept. All the trees are still in leaf, petrol is 1.09 a litre at Tescos and a couple of building developments in our road are at about the right stage.

  • 2 weeks later...

I see the people of Milton Keynes have decided to protost against the google car for invasion of privacy.

...a protest which only ended up giving their houses nationwide coverage on the BBC news.

Also like the way in that piece it shows the images taken down such as the man going into a sex shop. Surely it defeats the point of taking them down? :smt017
