chrisobee Posted 14 July, 2010 Share Posted 14 July, 2010 Somewhat of a frustrating day though both Dilys Maud and Marsh's Gift showed why they were 33/1 shots ! Mr Willis ran Ok but never looked like winning, 3rd at 7/1. Freddie's Gift as mentioned above ran his race and no complaints though of course had to finish 4th by a head at 10/1. Pebblesonthebeach I thought well and at least finished 3rd at 12/1 a neck ahead of Frankie's selection Serhal. Red Somerset was disappointing having drifted out to 9/1 and Fadr Al Bith a N/R. frankie Posted 14 July, 2010 Share Posted 14 July, 2010 Freddies Girl ran a good race but just failed by a head to at least get me my place money, finishing in 4th. Frankie had a nice winner in Holoko Heights @ 9/2 and though Mad Jack Duncan obliged as well @ 2/1 by a neck I won't deny at that price I thought it was a silly bet ! Maybe Frankie has other ideas or hopefully got a bigger price ( 4/1? ) so looking forward to reading his thoughts:D Did my bets last night so had a shade of just under 5/1 so not bad mate...the jumpers did me proud today, except for a couple of placed horses, plus flagging up Benanddonner and not doing it, the flat was a disaster. chrisobee Posted 16 July, 2010 Share Posted 16 July, 2010 (edited) Just a piece of betting information which may be on interest. Was just checking the prices for the BBC Sports Personality of The Year ( yep, priced up already in places !) The athlete Jess Ennis is 80/1 to win on Betfred but only 22/1 on Betfair. In a poor year AP is favourite at around 2/1, no value. I do believe anyway regardless of the Bet fair price that 80/1 for someone who is easily our best athlete and looks nailed on to win the Heptathlon at the European Champs in a few weeks is an amazing price. In fact barring injury/illness or a mishap in one of the 2 jump events which is highly unlikely ( long jump and high jump are 2 of her strongest events) I cannot imagine she will fail to win and is already World Indoor Champion this year. In short I doubt the 80/1 will be there for long and my £20 ( a large bet by my standards especially for anything other than horses ) might even set alarm bells ringing right now! Just an an idea these are her PB's and then the qualifying standard for INDIVIDUAL events for the European Championships for the 7 events in the order they take place: 100 metres hurdles PB 12.81 ( very close to the British record of 12.80 ) : Qualifying Standard : 13.35 High Jump PB 1.95( equalling the British Record) : Qualifying Standard : 1.89 Shot Putt ( her weakest event) PB 14.25: ( set this year) Qualifying Standard : 16.25 200 metres ( final event of Day 1) PB 23.15 : Qualifying Standard 23.70 Long Jump ( another good event in spite of Ennis having to change take off foot after injury in 2008 ) PB 6.51: ( also set this year) Qualifying Standard : 6.55 Javelin ( 2nd weakest event but improving, 50+ is well within reach ) PB : 46.47 Qualifying Standard : 57.50 800 metres PB 2.09.88 Qualifying Standard 2.02.5- very few heptathletes ever run close to this time, Olympic Champion 2000 Denise Lewis has a PB of 2.12.20 Edited 16 July, 2010 by chrisobee

Kyzer Chief which I backed last time out and put up on the Tip Exchange also contrived to finish 2nd by a shorthead at 9/2 ( at least I had place money @ 8/1!) as did Denny Crane at Leopardstown and Sailorman at Epsom which I also put up on Tip Exchange. chrisobee Posted 17 July, 2010 Share Posted 17 July, 2010 Newbury, a few pointers : Markab (GB), 2:15 Newbury- his performance behind Equiano in the King's Stand rates the 3rd best 5fl effort of the season (3YO+), should be hard to beat if dropping down in grade to pick up an easier prize. Prince Siegfried (FR), 3:55 Newbury- looked well recently in close 2nd at Sandown to a winner in particularly good form, pulling well clear of the rest. Should have no trouble picking up a similar contest soon. Noted on Newmmarket Gallops Henry Cecil, Rodrigo De Torres, (4.30pm Newbury) - went clear of Lord Shanakill (7fl Al Bahathri, Weds) Leading trainer/jockey combinations with runner(s) at Newbury today: Newbury: H R A Cecil & T Queally 34%, R M Beckett & J Crowley 33%, S Bin Suroor & T Durcan 33%, M Jarvis & P Robinson 32%

frankie Posted 17 July, 2010 Share Posted 17 July, 2010 Hello, i'll admit I don't exactly know much about horse racing but i'm heading up to Newbury for the day tomorrow and you guys seem to know your way around the sport! Any advice you could give me on the races tomorrow? If not then it will be done on the colour of the jersey or name of the horse Cheers Hope you have a cracking day mate, here are my thoughts on each race, for what they are worth. Newbury - Good good to soft in places 1.45 With my ban on backing Channon horses it makes this contest a little easier, I know you won't get rich backing this but Hannon saddles the favourite Measuring Time, he won well on his debut and if handling the going will take a ll the beating - Hannon won this race last year. It may pay to have a little each way on Hung Parliament as Dascombes yard seems to be coming into a bit of form. Selection:Measuring Time Danger:Hung Parliament 2.15 Doncaster Rover has shown some great form this year, he was behind Main Aim two runs ago then came up against Premio Loco who has franked that form since, plus he finished ahead of Starspangledbanner which is looking very good form, Markab and High standing look to have good claims, but Doncaster Rover has solid form, is consistent, deserves to win a race and is good value at the odds. Selection:Doncaster Rover 2.45 Despite being Barry's Bismark Forest Crown looks a stand out bet here but doesnt represent much value, so a few pound each way on Baileys Cacao, who looked useful as a two year old then looked in need of the run on her reappearance, she should run with more promise today. Selection: Small punt on Baileys Cacao 3.20 May be time to have a break and something to eat as this race looks almost impossible, I will choose two against the field, both from Hannons yard, Jaahiz looked very smart when winning last week and has Fallon on board and at a big price Kojak who has alot of speed but a suspect temperament to go with it, if Pat Dobbs can control him he may surprise. Selections: Jaahiz and Kojak 3.55 Some of us on the forum were on Kingdom of fife when he ran well last time, it would be mad to oppose him now, he has improved with every run and you can be sure Ryan Moore will be trying his best to try and close the gap on Hanaghan in the jockey table. Selection:Kingdom of Fife 4.30 Rodrigo De Torres is a bit of a monkey, but if in the right mood he has real ability, if he can settle he will take all the beating, if he doesnt Oasis dancer who finished some way behind Canford Cliffs on his last run will surely feature. Selection: Rodrigo De Torres 5.05 If you have any money left and you havent gone home, Newbury finishes with a 2 mile race, I have a real fancy in this, Uncle Keef was given a lot to do in his last race, if ridden a bit closer to the pace he has a great chance of taking this race, if the jockey has a nightmare again his Kempton Conqueror Graylyn Ruby will probably win again. Selection : Uncle Keef (NAP) Danger:Graylyn Ruby Good luck mate, have a great day Frankie
chrisobee Posted 17 July, 2010 Share Posted 17 July, 2010 Thanks very much Welcome ! Based on that and Frankie's selection's Rodrigo De Torres probably stands out at around 5/1. It's the H R A Cecil/T Queally combination ! Otherwise Doncaster Rovers is good value though I prefer Markab, if you're feeling really adventurous perhaps do a forecast these 2. If you feel tempted at around 4.45 to have a bet in the final race my tip would be to go home:D Enjoy, the weather might have turned for the better ! frankie Posted 17 July, 2010 Share Posted 17 July, 2010 O.K on to the other cards. Newmarket 2.30With just Gallic Star and Cill Rialaig in any sort of form this looks a tricky contest, but I am going to ignore them and go with Snoqualmie Girl, she has contested some good races this year, David Elsworth is in great from and hopefully Snoqualmie Girl, who has course and distance form here can return to form like Snoqualmie Boy did earlier this week. Selection:Snoqualmie Girl 3.30 Rule of Nature has been a frustrating horse for backers but has run well in her 5 starts, lets hope this afternoon against her own sex. Selection:Rule of Nature 5.15 a cracking little finale at Newmarket, and I like the look of Rocket Rob here, he has been very consistent this year and was very unlucky last time out, this stiff track should suit him and he can beat the improving Sutton Veny. Selection:Rocket Rob Market Rasen 2.00 Conquisto 3.05 Tilt 3.35 Putney Bridge 4.10 sir Frank 5.20 Mister Benedictine Ripon 4.00 Shernando 5.40 Silly Gilly Lingfield 6.50 Super Frank 8.50 Dolcetto good luck today folks, not about this afternoon as playing football...bloody mad, I think i'm going through a midlife crisis Frankie

Possibly the most speculative reason for backing a horse in the history of this thread ! MR 4.10 sir Frank Probably Sir Frank along with Russian George are the only two that can realistically win this. However, at around 13/8 I'm not sure why anyone would back him to be honest. Lingfield 6.50 Super Frank Fair to say Super Frank could win this but then so could just about all the 15 horses that still remain. Possibly the most difficult race to pick a winner from of the whole day/evening ! As for not backing MC horses then Mick surely knows more about racing than the whole of this forum put together so when he praises a horse highly before it has even run then you really should listen especially when it's a 33/1 shot which now has going to suit. chrisobee Posted 18 July, 2010 Share Posted 18 July, 2010 O.K on to the other cards. Selection:Snoqualmie Girl 3.30 Rule of Nature has been a frustrating horse for backers but has run well in her 5 starts, lets hope this afternoon against her own sex. frankie Posted 18 July, 2010 Share Posted 18 July, 2010 Well Sir Frank won as did errr Sir Frank !! That was one race where the close finish went in our favour Chris Strange that we are both having a bit of a barren run mate, although looking at the positives, we seem to be having a fair few placed horses and it seems alot of them are being well backed so fancied not just by us. Be nice to get the barren spell out of the way for Glorious Goodwood. Frankie
frankie Posted 18 July, 2010 Share Posted 18 July, 2010 Sundays selections: Redcar 2.10 Golden Hinde is bred to be nice, but with the current form of the Easterby yard and with experience on his side my selection is Residence and Spa, who has a pretty good level of form and can take this opener. 3.45 Its great to know that connections listened to me after Tropical Bachelor was so poor over the jumps recently, back on the flat and in this lower grade he can hopefully return to his impressive form of last month. (the only negative is the trainers record of one win in five years at the track) 4.20 A cracking little sprint with plenty in with chances, but I side with Peter Island he normally blazes a trail and can burn these out, he has been in consistent form this year and has the very able claimer Martin Lane on board. 4.50 Rascal in the Mix is in great form, Silly Gilly ran a good race in second yesterday without troubling the winner, but it is with a potential improver that I side, Love in the West is lightly raced, she ran well on her seasonal debut, she has stamina to win over longer than this so if she can use that stamina from the front she may have these struggling in behind. 5.50 Not a race to get heavily involved in but it may be worth having a look at Young Scotton, he has been off the track 846 days but on his old form he would have a very good chance, the stable managed to win a race with a hurdler who had come back from a long absence already this season, plus possibly the best apprentice Lee Topliss is taking the mount. Curragh 3.40 The race looks wide open, but I have to side with Michael Stoutes Eldalil, he does very well with his fillies and being so lightly raced, you can rest assured there will be plenty of improvement to come from her. Stratford 2.20 Tout Regulier looks as if ahe only has to stand up to win here, if she doesnt then Quidam Blue could continue his steady improvement. A watching brief though I feel. 3.20 A nice little race with many stables represented here in fine form, it is with Shammy Buskins that I side, his trainer is in super form and he won on this course and at this distance, of the fancied runner he also has the lowest weight which may tell at the end of the race. 4.25 Chevy to the Levy ... would be good lyrics for a song I reckon. 4.55 Aint She the Lady Newton Abbott 2.30 Lucky Quay 3.00 Kickahead 3.30 Tzora 4.05 Old Brigade 4.35 Leitra House Good luck all, have a nice Sunday whatever you may be doing. chrisobee Posted 18 July, 2010 Share Posted 18 July, 2010 (edited) Plenty of trends/info for the Oaks meeting at The Curragh and this is obviously the pick of the racing on Sunday. The Irish Oaks at 3.40 looks to be between Hibayeeb, Snow Fairy and Meeznah but since I can't really find the key to the race I'm going for a small ew bet on the interesting Eldalil to completely bust the trends and a very small win bet on Meezhah. In the 4.05 Airspace looks to be the pick though Luisant is very consistent and with the jockey taking off 7 lbs I'll have a very small ew bet on this one too. AP has a great book of rides at Newton Abbot and should pick up a few winners at least so may well back all 5 to very small stakes in one of Kip's favourites, a Super Yankee ! I think the 2 stand out picks are Rocklandslad and Bach Protector in the last 2, the former makes his hurdles debut in a poor race, the latter is very positive in the betting and with trainer Rebecca Curtis having a superb record in bumpers this should win with only Maid of Silk and Spe Salvi likely to get close. She also trains Rocklandslad so could be a Curtis/McCoy double. Earlier in the 4.05 Old Brigade has yet to prove his stamina over the trip so going for a small ew bet on Chico Time, my main concern being a 3 month lay off. Also a few at decent prices at Redcar. Newt 14:30 Sassanian to Win. Curr 14:35 Rudolf Valentino Newt 15:00 Classic Swain Curr 15:05 Latin Love Each Way/Emulous Curr 15:40 Eldalil Each Way/Meezhah Newt 16:05 Old Brigade/Chico Time Each Way Curr 16:15 Park Ranger Redcar 4.20- Peter Island Newt 16:35 Rocklandslad NAP Redcar 16.50 Very Well Read Curr 16:45 Luisant 2 point win, 1 point place/ Airspace Newt 17:05 Bach Protector NB Redcar 17.20 Indian Violet Good luck !! chrisobee Posted 18 July, 2010 Share Posted 18 July, 2010 Analysis on a few : 3.05 - Curragh Emulous: Won a 28 race Maiden over seven furlongs in soft ground at this track last October on debut and reappeared on much faster ground over the same trip against her elders at Naas last month. She kept on on well with another three year old Filly and, although beaten just over a length, there was a four length break to the third who subsequently won a Fairyhouse Listed race. Emulous steps up in trip today but that maiden win as a Juvenile in testing conditions suggests she has her share of stamina and the easing of the ground conditions are likely to suit. Future Group 1 and 3 entries suggests she is well up to this class back against her own sex and she has the potential to improve past horses who may have posted better form to date. 3.40 - Curragh: Meeznah- Although it could be argued that Snow Fairy had a more troubled run when beating Meeznah in the Epsom Oaks, the way the latter was closing again at the line suggests she could exact her revenge if this race is a more truly run affair. That looks likely to be the case because the home contingents best chance is on the back of a proper gallop. Meeznah is bred to enjoy a stiffer test than she received at Epsom and there is enough in her breeding to suggest that the easing in ground conditions will not be a problem, even though connections have stated that she loves fast ground. She has improved significantly with each outing to date and there is the likelihood of better to come being by Dynaformer, whose progeny tend to improve with age. The yard have an excellent strike rate with their turf string and have formed a very good relationship with today's jockey. 4.20 - Redcar Peter Island -His mark is now six pounds higher than it was at the end of the last turf season and higher than he has ever won from in the past. Add to that the presence of other front runners and he looks one to avoid at first glance. However if his talented three pound claimer can get his fractions right he could go close. A fast six furlongs are his ideal conditions and the yard send just the one to a track they have only sent three previous entries since 2004 (all big outsiders). Peter Island has been running well this season, winning twice, and the majority of his opposition are not running at their peak at the current time. 4.50 - Redcar - Very Well Red Another who is yet to win from mark as high as he currently possesses but he is a strong travelling type who could get a softish lead in this race. He has been a bit disappointing in his last two outings but he invariably wins on the back of a poor effort. He is versatile regarding ground conditions and his yard have enlisted the use of a very good five pound claimer to relieve his burden somewhat. A winner of two of his five turf races this season, Very Well Red faces mainly out of form opposition and probably has Rascal In The Mix as his biggest danger. 5.20 - Redcar - Indian Violet - Still a maiden after 13 races and has only made the frame once. However he is often on the premises going into the latter stages before never seeming to go through with his effort. He is now well handicapped on the form he was showing for his former yard and it may be worth chancing that his attitude may be better in the first time cheekpieces. He didn't run badly for today's claimer in his penultimate race and his performance here over seven furlongs in a better race from an eleven pound higher mark in May would see him in with a shout if he stays this extra distance.
