Just one from the AW at Southwell which I'm going to make my NAP :

4.10 Lucky Punt NAP : Course form counts for plenty here, so there seems no reason to oppose fibresand-specialist Lucky Punt. Veloso is on the up and rates a danger, along with Bothy.

Too late! Already on it.

Chester

2.45 This is a cracking race and very wide open, but I have a real fancy for Bernie the Bolt, he progressed well last year especially when raised to this trip, beating the useful Alanbrooke by 4 1/2 lengths, the draw isnt ideal but i'm hoping he can get into a useful position without using too much energy and run the finish out of his opponents.

Frankie

Well well, I posted something very similar without realising, must be an omen ;)

After a disastrous day of racing and Kips bet going tits up lets hope Thursday brings better fortune.

1.45 really quite sweet on the chances of Leceile, she showed a good level of form last year and will hopefully improve this year, Haggis knows the time of day and this could be the start of a decent day for him.

2.15 Lets hope for a quick Haggas double, South Easter has course and distance form, his only disappointing run last year was over 2 furlongs further and back at this trip on his reappearance he won nicely.

2.45 A pretty poor Chester Vase to be fair, and nothing really stands out, but as I look on my Betfair machine I can see Chink of Light at 17.5 he has some decent form and is well thought of, he has an entry in the Derby...the visor may bring about more improvement.

5.05 I really like Ben Chorley, he ran well on his first start for his current trainer when beaten by Irish Heartbeat and will hopefully improve for that run after a difficult campaign last year....my only concern is the drying ground.

Goodwood

4.45 A tricky race over 2miles sees many in with chances, but I am going to select Commemoration Day, he has won over this course and distance (several years ago admittedly) but has been well thought of over hurdles, even running at Aintree.

5.20 I was really impressed with Flighty Francis last time, despite running green she won nicely, she is entitled to improve again and if she does could take all the beating.

All in all a tricky day with jumps racing again proving difficult to pick winners.

good luck all

Frankie

Here we go for Thursday :)

Chester

As always very competitive so I'll be playing to small stakes here and at least one ew double.

2.15 South Easter/Redwood -: both currently around 7/2: South Easter Won C&D Group 3 on second racecourse start last May and back to form after a poor run at Royal Ascot when cosy listed winner on reappearance in March. Scope for more improvement and is my main pick for this though a small saver on Redwood who was only narrowly beaten last time out and is another for the Richard/Barry Hills combination.

2.45 Rocket Man NB : Connections are very keen on this horse and the current price of 5/2 suggests a big run is expected. Has a Derby Entry, Aiden O'Brien had the 1/2 in this race last year and Rocket Man looks open to plenty of improvement. Trip should not be a problem and close to be being my NAP.

3.55 Diamond Geezah : currently around 7/2 : Not drawn well in stall 9 but still looks likely to be a leading contender in this race. Has plenty of speed and I'd imagine Michael Hills will try to utilise that and head for the rail at the start, that could well be the key to winning this. The good record of Barry Hills in this race is another positive.

4.30 Horseradish- currently around 5/1 ew double with Diamond Geezah : Unlike Diamond Geezah has a good draw and should make his presence felt though am slightly concerned that the step back in trip may be a little on the sharp side. However, due to go up 3lbs on Saturday so still potentially well handicapped. Rule of Nature is the obvious threat and may prove too quick over this trip but I'm going for an ew double on Horseradish and Diamond Geezah as both look good bets to at least make the frame.

Goodwood :

4.45 Commempration Day -ew :- currently around 10/1 Main concern about this horse is he has not been since on the flat since 2007. However, has won over C&D and early market vibes are positive which could well be significant.

Wincanton

6.35 Barrel Of Fun - 6.35 Wincanton NAP - currently around 2/1 Started out running on the flat and looked nothing out of the ordinary on his hurdling debut but showed much improved form when running out the comfortable winner of a novices' hurdle at Plumpton last month. With McCoy on board I rate this a very strong bet and is my NAP

Wetherby

8.25 Chip N Pin -: currently around 5/1 Seems a very difficult horse to win with despite being pretty consistent. I'm sure there is a win in him, wears blinkers for the 1st time today though only beaten a short head to Martha Elizabeth at Southwell a week ago having been backed from 11/2 into 7/2. An early morning check showed a best priced 7/1 but now 9/2 looks the general price though 5's available in places. I like Denis O'Regan who is on board today though I'd be reluctant to take anything shorter than 5/1 as that looks a reasonable price.

Good luck all !

TV races:

Chester

1.45 Sweet Lightning - Almiqdaad is the best horse in the race but at 6/4 for a hold up horse round Chester is too short for me, even though Jarvis is on fiiiiiiiire at the moment. Sweet gets a 10lb pull from a couple of lengths defeat by Almiqdaad at Newbs, change of stable since and a decent draw.

2.15 Stotsfold - trappy little race this. The selection has been banging on the door and the stable are in fine form.

2.45 Chink of Light - like Frankie I too thought this to be a stand out value bet. I suspect Critical Moment and Morana may not see this trip out. Rocket Man is bred to get the 12f but is hard to weigh up. For a bit of fun I've also paired Chink with Icon Dream for the forecast.

3.15 Niran - tight as a gnats chuff is this race. Niran has drifted this morning to 6s and from that draw he looks worth a bet.

Gooders

3.00 Kavachi - expect Tudor Key to lead and the short priced fave Elliptical to sit second. These 2 could battle it out for a way and I'm hoping my old timer can pounce late.

Giddy up!!

Two more for later on in the day/evening:

Goodwood 5.20 Golden Aria Available at 15/2 (Victor Chandler)

This may not be the biggest field of the day but it is one of the most competitive with 7 of the ten runners winning last time out and 9 of the 10 holding decent chances of winning this race. Richard Hughes rides Mirabella for Richard Hannon but it may be worth chancing stable mate, Golden Aria, for whom Pat Dobbs has been on board for her last two outings. Her best performance came when last seen in September when she was stepped up to a mile for the first time to beat Timepiece (making her debut). Both the second and third (Gertrude Bell) have done nothing but improve since and it could be a similar story for Golden Aria in this campaign. Fitness is unlikely to be a concern and, if she has wintered well, an initial mark of 80 for this handicap debut could underestimate her.

Ffos Las 8.35 Quiquillo - Available at 6/1 (General)

Not many of these are open to obvious improvement but the exception could be Quiquillo who makes just her ninth start this evening and is unexposed over sprint trips. It's difficult to gauge just what her best trip is, having been seen over 6-10 furlongs so far, but her two best performances have come at today's trip, including a win from a mark of 62 at Chepstow in August. Her fitness has to be taken on trust but the stable's horses are running well and their inmate is not weighted out of this on a six pound higher mark than for that sole victory. Limited evidence suggests the selection may not want the ground riding too fast but, even without Amosite running, there looks enough early pace to make this an honest run affair which will suit.

At least my best bet of the day, Barrel Of Fun, won at 13/8 from the well backed Fidelis. Typically excellent ride from AP and an easy enough winner in the end as Fidelis found nothing after travelling smoothly until 2 out.

Bloody hell boys May is a disaster so far...one winner between us I think....must try harder...bit of PMA needed i reckon...lets have some tonight.

Frankie

Lol, I did pick Horseradish in the 4.30 at Chester, it duly won at 11/4 but I did in an ew double with Diamond Geezah this morning when it was 5/1 ! So loads of analysis, 2 winners including my NAP but that of course reduced to one winner backed and one not as a win or even a blooming small ew bet at 5's.

Tomorrow is going to be a good day, I feel it in my aching old bones :)

Oh, nice winner for Sir Cato in Sweet Lightning, that was as good as it got though.

3.15 - Archers road. I'm thinking heart over head here Frankie but I will be backing it, I've backed it everytime it's run including it's first ever run at Newmarket? came 2nd at 50/1 I think.

Got a decent chance on past form though has been gelded since last run and left MC for the Barron yard. Jamie Spencer on board a positive, market might be the best guide to this. Don't think he has ever run at Newmarket ? Finished 2nd on debut at Doncaster at 25/1. Maybe that race is the one, never returned at a greater SP than that but was backed in from 33's:

Chester really doesn't look any easier today but here we go anyway:

Chester

2.45 Harbinger @5/6 : This looks to be one of the less competitive races with Harbinger a clear favourite and Age of Aquarius clear 2nd best in the market. Harbinger is a progressive colt who made impressive return in the John Porter at Newbury, streaking clear of Manifest. Extra 1f unlikely to pose much of a problem and looks set for a really good season. Only the short price, managed Evens on BF, stops this being my NAP but I expect his extra race sharpness will prove to much for Age of Aquarius on his seasonal debut.

4.30 Lucky Numbers @11/2 : A wide open race but with a plumb draw in stall one Lucky Numbers along with the booking of Ryan Moore leads to me to Lucky Numbers. Won't find the step up in trip a problem and at a best priced 11/2 I expect a bold showing.

5.05 Interdiamonds ew @ 7/1 NAP: Surprise, surprise the day ends with yet another wide open race. Interdiamonds was a battling second to Carlton Scroop at Doncaster last time and a repeat of that run (off the same mark) would see him go close. Going to be my NAP.

Elsewhere:

Lingfield

2.05 Alfraamsey @7/4: Likely to be between the 2 market leaders Alfraamsey and Leiba Leiba. Hard to split the two but I'm going for the Micky Channon horse to prevail today. Made a slow start on his debut but came through strongly to finish 2nd at Bath. Looks a likely winner waiting to happen and today could well be the day.

4.20 War and Peace @4/1 : A really tight contest, but War And Peace has shaped well on both starts for David Evans and can get off the mark with Richard Hughes taking over in the saddles. Fernando Torres and Spinning Ridge are likely contenders but 4/1 looks a fair price for this very consistent horse who although still a maiden has form figures of 254422. Hoping he can break his maiden tag today.

Nottingham

2.55 Copper Penny @ 9/4: Finished a close 2nd at Windsor on seasonal debut and looks sure to come on for that race. Though a case can be made for several in this race Copper Penny looks the one to beat.

4.10 Mons Calpe ew @ around 20/1 : Not an obvious selection especially making a reappearance after 319 days. However, won at this distance twice last year so a small ew bet at around 20/1 is hard to resist but certainly not one to be lumping on... unless your name is Kipper :D

May have a few late selections but good luck all !

Chester:

1.45 Webbow @ 9/1 (General)

Invincible @ 11/1 (General)

Webbow has the best of the draw and isn't ground dependent. He will be a live threat if he is anywhere near the pacesetters coming round the final bend. He may have to be ridden more prominently than usual and that is the major concern. Stable are in form and they have made an eye-catching jockey booking (1 from 3 for the yard). Invincible Force has a poor draw to overcome but he has run plenty of good races here, winning three times, and returned with a good fourth in the Thirsk Hunt Cup last week. That should've put him spot on for this.

4.30 - Desert Dreamer - @ 33/1 (General)

Another at a big price in this wide open race. Desert Dreamer hasn't been at his best this season but he is always likely to be seen at his best given a good gallop round a tight track. Poorly drawn but lies to drop in and come from off the pace. At a huge price he looks worth a small e/w consideration.

Nottingam

4.10 - Hawaana - e/w. Available at 16/1 (General) Having already had a few quid on Mons Calpe I'm doing the same on Hawaana who is beginning to look well handicapped and hasn't been running badly on the A/W. Seen mostly over 7/8 furlongs but has suggested on a number of occasions that further would suit and he hasn't been disgraced in the few outings he has been seen over 9/10 furlongs. Handles ground on the slow and fast side of good and went well for today's three pound claimer in two A/W handicaps in December from much higher marks. Represents a yard beginning to find their form.

4.45 - Nottingham - Cheap Street - e/w. @ 16/1 (Ladbrokes) Losing run now stretches back to October 2006 but on a dangerously-low handicap mark as a result. May need this reappearance so small stakes only.

Aintree

8.40 - Word Of Warning - e/w. @ 14/1 (General) Won 2½m novices at Bangor and Sedgefield last summer. Not discredited over 2m on recent return from 8 months off and step back up to this trip should suit. Denis O'Regan takes the ride and I think this can go close at a decent price.

Just a brief word on the other Chester races, nothing strong but if I were playing in each race:

2.15 Tamathul @ 11/2 Plenty of promise at 2 yrs, winning 7f maiden. Hugely encouraging reappearance in 1¼m handicap at Newmarket last month and fact shrewd trainer is prepared to risk exploitable mark looks significant.

3.15 Duchess Dora @ 5/2 : Likely to be between Duchess Dora and the other market leader Falasteen with Archers Road certainly not without chances at a decent price- currently 9/1 in places

3.55 Safina @ 8/13. Very short but surely the one to beat. Top-class pedigree and confirmed debut promise when fourth in Group 3 company on reappearance. Sets a very useful standard back in a maiden and a very probable winner.

Hoorrayyy winners at last, forgotten what it was like.

Three in all...Azmeel 7/2 Good old Archers Road 15/2 and Captain Cool 7/1

Not going to go mad tonight don't want to lose my winnings :-)

Hamilton

7.50 Hard to split Danderek and Zaplamation as I fancy both, but I am going to side with Danderek, two reasons, I like the jockey I think Tyliki is decent plus he has won at the distance, and I still think we havent seen the best of him.

8.50 I really like the look of Cheyenne Red, his record is good at this course (2 from 3) and his trainer is in decent form.

Ripon

5.55 I was quite surprised to see Johnny Han****s price so big, he was a beaten favourite last time and ran well until fading late, Evans continues to be in good form and hopefully the visor can help him to concentrate.

7.30 Oneofapear, I like to keep an eye on Swinbanks runners especially first time in a handicap, this race is pretty open and it wouldnt take much for this horse to take the race and improve throughout the season.

8.30 Ursis often wins at a big price and I will have a few quid on him tonight just in case.

Guys I have heard some massive reports on a horse tomorrow

Haydock 2.30

Ahtoug

I'm sure that you are aware but the trainer is part of Godolphins outfit and apparently this horse is tearing up the gallops, nothing can live with it...now if it can transfer that to the racecourse it should win easily..

Price won't be massive but just thought i'd pass it on.

Saturday 8th May Selections

Ascot

2.20 Duncan will be a warm order here and should win, but if he needs the run I hope Bergo, who has been running well for Gary Moore over hurdles can capatalise at a big price.

2.50 Alsace Lorraine can hopefully take this tricky little contest, she showed a good attitude last year and improved with every run, I really like James Fanshawe as a trainer and Jamie Spencer is an interesting booking, hopefully she will continue to improve...keep an eye on Swinburns, Flora Trevelayn as a possible danger.

3.25 Mabait I am sure will be all the rage after winning on his reappearance, but I fancy having a few quid on Dandy Boy, Marnane brings him over from Ireland where the trainer is in good form, the horse showed good form last year(albeit on the all weather) and his third on his reappearance was an encouraging run, if he goes on the ground he may run well.

4.35 Aaim to Prosper looked a really useful horse over a marathon trip for Mick Channon, he then moved yards and won on his first run, I think he will improve again and will be a horse to follow at these long trips.

Lingfield.

Henry Cecil sends a few here today and it may pay to follow his runners.

4.55 Atlaal ran well in maidens last year despite causing some trouble at the start of his races, he won his third start very nicely, and although he is not drawn ideally his handicap mark may mean he can take advantage here, plus a year older may mean he settles better and gives his true running.

Haydock

2.30 See my earlier post about this race.

3.00 Sangfroid is a really consistent horse, he had a warm up when narrowly beaten on the flat last week and hopefully that will put him just right to run a big race and hopefully get his head in front.

3.35 a wide open race and small stakes encouraged, I will have my couple of quid on Issaquah and Acambo

5.20 Prince of Johanne should strip fitter for his first run, he rattled up a hat-trick last year on varying ground types, if he runs to that form he will give the others something to think about.

Nottingham

1.55 Sands Crooner was backed by me last time, and I will not desert him now, he is running well at the moment, and has won off a higher mark than this just 11 months ago, he needs to get a win in him before the handicapper raises him too much.

2.55 Deacon Blues was well fancied on his reappearance but ran as if he needed it, he will strip fitter today and can hopefully be a real gone kid.

3.30 Swiss Diva was a model of consistency last year, she is still relatively unexposed having only run 11 times and could still improve, is she does she may take some beating.

4.40 Pretty dire race so I will have a punt :-) I like the look of the unexposed Short Supply, he showed some promise in maidens last year and is bred to do better over this longer trip, the handicapper has not been too harsh so fingers crossed for a good run.

That'll do, fancy a few in the evening but time for bed...

Good luck

Frankie
