It really was a day of "nearlies" yesterday. Xtension ran an excellent race to finish 4th at 25/1 in the 2000 Guineas but with only some bookies paying ew 1st 4 ( I always have believed not paying 1st 4 automatically is taking the mick really in an 18 runner field !) it goes down in the book as a gallant loser. Lucky Art got beaten by a neck into 2nd at 7/2 and Curaco also 2nd at 9/2 beaten by a 20/1 shot!

Today if anything is even trickier and generally for those races I have concentrated on at Newmarket I've found several I would like to back ! However, in the end I've gone for these. Brief analysis only as the wretched flu is making this such a wonderful BH weekend :(

If you are planning to get involved I'd certainly advise small stakes and possibly playing around with a few ew combinations.

Newmarket

2.05 Classic Vintage/ Hillview Boy Both win bets: A minefield of a race but both Classic Vintage at around 6/1 and Hillview boy at 10/1 make some appeal. I certainly would not blaming anyone for going ew on these or anything else in this very, very competitive race.

3.20 No 6 Hibayeeb/Blue Maiden ew : Hiybayeeb is not to be confused with horse No 5 Habaayib ! Now with Godolphin this horse looks overpriced at a general 16/1. However, Stan James pay 1st 4 and also pay any winnings in Guineas so definitely the place to have your bet on this and the other I think has a chance at a good price Blue Maiden.

3.55 Flipando - e/w. Available at 25/1 (General)/Imperial Guest - e/w. Available at 25/1 (General) Both these 2 and Mick Channons Rileyskeepingfaith with Kieron Fallon on board look overpriced to me but in a 25 runner field where the favourite Zidane is as big as 8/1 places this is the kind of race bookies love though my strongest bet of the day is that whatever wins they'll moan about it being a bad result ! Flipando will enjoy the likely fast pace and looked quite impressive when winning over this trip on the AW back in February. Imperial Guest runs again following a gelding operation when making a winning reappearance at Brighton recently. Can be temperamental which is always a concern but at 25/1 still looks worth a small ew bet.

5.05 Principal Role NAP : Ran an excellent race on her seasonal debut in the Nell Gwyn stakes and with this step up in trip looking probable to suit this Henry Cecil trained filly looks to be the one to beat. Mick Channon runs Gallic Star with Kieron Fallon on board again, seems sure to find a few too good in this race but if you follow Mick's horses then an ew bet at small stakes at around 20/1 might be worth a speculative punt though I'd be very surprised if Gallic Star was able to win this.

Hi guys, awful days tipping yesterday, had today off and will be back with some fresh tips for Bank Holiday Monday.....some amazing results yesterday with some huge priced animals coming in.

As always Bank Holiday has a wealth of racing, and a bit of a minefield for punters if punting in every race...luckily i'm going out with the missus and the dog so will be not be about to fall into the trap of punting every race....I have a fair few fancies though and if nothing comes in I could lose a fair few quid...just very brief notes due to amount of racing and lack of time.

Kempton

4.00 Which Doctor, I tipped this on its seasonal debut when it was given a tender ride, hopefully it will be more wound up for today and if they go at a breakneck speed he will be staying on well at the end.

5.30 Lucky Leigh is a tentative selection in a trppy race, who knows how he will run as he is largely inconsistent but showed a return to form last time out.

Windsor

2.55 A couple I fancy here at decent prices, Franko is my name has been a revelation on the AW this winter, he could run well again depending on how he copes with the switch to turf, I also fancy At wit's End, who improved every run last year and it is doubtful we have seen the best of him.

3.55 I fancy a small flutter on Cheers Big Ears, he has moved stables after being with John Best last year, he showed some ok form, he is too big a price to ignore.

4.55 I really fancy Autocracy but his odds are tumbling, he is an unexposed type in a modest field, Williams horse would be a contender but the stable form is a worry.

Beverley

2.20 Blind Stag should come on for his first run, he was well supported on his debut and has a speedy pedigree.

2.50 Kakaputa (Nap) Did amazingly well to win it's last race when overcame trouble in running, he doesnt have the best of draws but will hopefully be ahead of the handicapper.

3.20 Mannlichen I thought he'd be favourite after several good runs last year, he ran best on the all weather but is definitely worth a punt at this price.

Missus is giving me grief so just selections now.

Warwick

2.40 Whipma Whopma Gate

4.40 Onyx of Arabia

Chepstow

2.35 Yemeni Princess

4.05 Picot De Say

5.05 First Term

5.35 Magic Omen

Good luck guys

Indeed not an inspiring day with far too much racing. Only 2 definite bets at present I think might be worth a small bet which indeed is the smart thing today !

Chepstow 4.05 Mountain Forest NAP : Tricky race but Mountain Forest has been running very well on the AW and unlike a number in this race hasn't returned to the flat after campaigning over the jumps. 2/1 looks a fair price.

Beverley 4.20 Tribal Myth ew : Tribal Myth has been running well and looks to hold a good chance. However, the draw bias at Beverley only makes things even harder so at 8/1 have gone ew and at least hope for a good run for my money !

Just a few others which are worth a look :

3.20 - Beverley - Amethyst Dawn - Available at 10/1 (Bet 365) Signed off last season back to the level of her Juvenile form when winning over a mile at Nottingham in soft ground from a mark of 61. Narrowly lost out over 12 furlongs at Ripon last July and is unexposed over today's sort of trip, even those two previous efforts have been disappointing. Started off this season over a mile at Thirsk from a mark of 68 and ran well enough to suggest there may be further improvement in this campaign. Has run well in two of three previous outings at this track and is not ground dependent. Stable in very good form.

3.25 Windsor Lay Claim - currently around 7/2

3.30 Kempton - Udabaa currently around 2/1

3.50 - Beverley - Handsome Falcon -Available at 9/2 (William Hill) Hard to criticise many of his 14 outings last season, even though he only had one victory to show for his efforts. A winner of 5 of his 34 races (finished second on seven occasions) he has the profile of a horse who is still slowly improving. Looked in need of his reappearance where he was the stable second string to the yard's easy winner and better can be expected today. Back on his correct mark of 81 for a stable still finding winners and versatile regarding ground conditions. He has been on the premises in most of his 12 races here, winning twice, and this isn't the strongest race in which to attempt a sixth career victory.

4.25 - Windsor - Hollow Green - Available at 7/1 (General) A competitive race in which King's Song, Grey Granite and Hollow Green are favoured with the latter just getting the vote. His form figures over middle distances at this track read 1112516 and they improve to 1121 in races solely over today's trip. They have all been in good ground or faster but he does have a record of 12102 in soft/heavy ground at other venues so underfoot conditions today are unlikely to be a concern. Three of his seven victories have come under today's jockey and they represent an in form yard with a very profitable 12% strike rate at this track. Hollow Green is weighted to win, being one pound below his last winning mark, and has enough in his favour to run a big race.

5.35 - Chepstow - Magic Omen – Available at 9/2 (General) : With Frankie on this one which might be the kiss of death :)

Expensive purchase as a yearling who finished second in all three Maiden outings, only going down narrowly on the last two occasions. Similar level of performance in all three races but not badly treated on this handicap debut judged in the light of those efforts. Bred to appreciate this step up to a mile and represents a powerful, in form yard who haven't sent many here in recent seasons but who boast a 20% strike rate when they do. It would be surprising, and disappointing, if Magic Omen didn't turn out to be a bit better than a 76 rated handicapper.

Good luck!

Grreat tip and a super write up mate, King's Song is a bit of a dog by the look of it...not the best day for me, a fair few places as always, a couple of winners, 5/2 and 8/1...Couple I really fancy tomorrow though (if not withdrawn)

Thanks ! Don't knock a couple of good priced winners though on any Monday let alone a Bank Holiday, think it's fair to say though our comments on it being a difficult day were always likely to be on the mark. As for Magic Omen I clearly meant I was putting the kiss of death on you/the horse ;)

Oh and I did smile when I saw you tipped Whipma Wopma Gate as I have a photo taken in the late 70's of some friends and me sitting on a wall in York just next to the road sign for Whipma Wopma Gate, it just was fated to win !!

Cheers,

Beverley 4.20 Tribal Myth ew : Tribal Myth has been running well and looks to hold a good chance. However, the draw bias at Beverley only makes things even harder so at 8/1 have gone ew and at least hope for a good run for my money ! Well the price collapsed but still won nicely at 7/2.

3.25 Windsor Lay Claim - currently around 7/2 N/R

3.30 Kempton - Udabaa currently around 2/1 Another horse where the price collapsed ! Just got up to win but only 8/13.

3.50 - Beverley - Handsome Falcon -Available at 9/2 (William Hill) Hard to criticise many of his 14 outings last season, even though he only had one victory to show for his efforts. Grey Granite was a decent 4th but King's Song was indeed very disappointing and never really looked at the races.

Onto Tuesday then and not so much racing, thank god...

Newcastle

3.10 Green Agenda hasnt shown the best of form recently, but this time last year he won 4 and came second once, so this seems to be his time of year, that and the inclusion of blinkers will hopefully see a return to form.

4.10 Mick Channons horse will be a short fav here, which will mean a decent price about others, I fancy 'On The Cusp' to show some improved form, he finished well down the field on his seasonal debut, but the positives of firmer ground, he should strip fitter, a good trainer and the eye catching booking of Dettori mean he is a bet for me.

Bath

4.00 Watch this as it may be withdrawn as it has been the last twice I have fancied it...I like Kanace, it has been well backed the last twice before being withdrawn as I said. last year it ran over 5f so this rise to 1 mile is interesting, on it's handicap debut it will be very interesting to watch.

5.00 Callisto Moon was quietly fancied on his debut this season but failed to dominate as he likes to, over this longer trip and with the firmer ground he should be there or thereabouts, he also has course and distance form.

Fakenham

2.50 I will be having a small punt on Tim Vaughans Great Tsar, Vaughan does really well with his summer jumpers and this horse was running well on a handicap rating of 100 a couple of years ago, he now runs on a rating of 82, if the visor can help he may go well at a big price.

3.20 I really fancy Saintly Lady, not just because of the name, but she has some decent form in bumpers and this step up in trip should help too, coupled with a low weight and question marks about the others..its come on you Saint.

Evening selections posted when I get home from work

Good luck All

A couple of early tips for today :

Newcastle 4.40 Taborcillo : Ran well at Catterick to win on his seasonal debut at Catterick over 5f. Don't believe the 6f will be a problem. Definitely looks open to further improvement and should cope with a 6lb penalty. 11/4 looks a decent price all things considered. Main market rival Whispered Times looks the obvious threat along with Tell Me A Story.

Bath 5.00 Calisto Moon : Sorry Frankie but I'm with Calisto Moon as well ! Won 4 times last season including over C&D. Reckon the trip last time out was definitely not far enough and Calisto Moon was forced to go too fast too early. With the weather seemingly set fair the ground should be fine and 9/4 with PP looks a fair price.

Newcastle 2.40 Destiny's Dream : I looked at this race earlier and though it is very competitive I did fancy this horse though Sudden Impulse looked a big danger. However, with that now being a N/R at a best priced 9/2 Destiny's Dream looks a value bet. Won over this trip at Chester in August looked right back to her best when close third at Doncaster last week, and looks sure to be thereabouts if repeating that.

4.00 – Bath – Celtic Ransom – e/w. Available at 8/1 (General)

Hardly set the World alight last season, but he looked a different horse last month on his seasonal debut at Wolverhampton. He will have come on for that run, and has reportedly been working well at home. 8/1 looks an excellent E/W price, and he should go close today.

Have also had a very good word for Baddam in the 5.00 at Bath but not going to desert Calisto Moon.

Good luck, not really inspiring again today but some good racing coming up at Chester ( live on CH4 for several races) over the next 3 days and also Ascot .

Another one I like at a big price is

Newcastle 4.40

Rio Caribe, he doesnt look to have the best of form, but he was beaten fav last time out so must have some ability, but more interestingly are the trainer stats, Tim Walford enjoys a 100% strike-rate (2-2) with his 3yo handicappers at the track in the last five years and also 2 of his 3 winners (3yo's in hcps) were returning from a lay off from the autumn in their 2yo campaigns this included a 25/1 winner. At 25/1 on Betfair I will be having a little dabble.

Good luck All

Frankie

Was indeed well backed, I got the 2nd (again) with Celtic Ransom at 7/1 though at least I went ew, Kanace 3rd by a neck to Celtic Ransom at 9/2 with Flag of Glory winning well at 7/1. Decent race, both of our selections ran good races I felt.

Hmm not a brilliant day but some nicely priced place horses and a winner

Newcastle

3.10 Green Agenda...nowhere, really looks to have regressed, leave alone at the moment.

4.10 On the Cusp (3rd 13/2) Ran a nice race, was running on at the end, still more improvement to come?

4.40 Rio Caribe (3rd 11/1) Ran a really nice race without getting to the leader, well clear of 4th

Fakenham was a disaster with Tzar Lady unseating when challenging and Saintly Lady running an awful race, you knew the fate of that one from some way from home.

Bath

4.00 Kanace (3rd 9/2 fav) Was well backed again and ran nicely no chance with winner who annoyingly had a similar profile to my selection and won very nicely

5.00 Callisto Moon (9/4 Winner!!!) see Chris we can do it , won easily.

Just looking at evening racing then post a couple of selections.

Indeed Frankie, was watching the replay and made my above post as you were writing yours :) Easy winner indeed !

You had a few ran well including Rio Caribe which did run a nice race and On The Cusp finished well so may indeed be more to come, one to look out for. As mentioned earlier Kanace ran well too along with my pick Celtic Ransom but we had to settle for 2nd and 3rd.

Evening selections...

Nothing really stands out at Exeter, but I will have a few quid on Pipe Banner in the 6.50, purely as he is such a big price for a horse from the Henderson stable, and he has fair form and may improve over this longer trip. Plus a few quid on Walter De Wodeland in the 7.50 (Hunter Chase), he was almost certainly going to win when being brought down in his last race and will hopefully make amends here.

Catterick

6.30 A tough little race, but Pitt has his stable running well and Tropical Batchelor has some decent placed form on firm ground, he wouldnt have to improve too much on his last run to take this.

7.00 Smalljohn has been in great form on the all weather and is on just a pound higher mark for his return to turf.

730 Sendali has done little wrong on his last two starts and Jamie Spencer is taking the mount here, if he handles the firm ground expect a good run.

8.30 Baybshambles, trainer form in and out but ran some good races last year and a return to form would see him in with a chance.

I am also going to have a bet on Warcraft in the 7.40 at Ballinrobe, his trainer won this last year so likes to win it, he was well backed last time out but that came to nothing, but I am sure if you get him right he will win a race soon.

Had a look at tomrrows racing going to post all selections including tomorrow nights cracking Hunter Chase card from Cheltenham.

As you all know Chester throws up some strange results, it is a tight little track with draw and course and distance form a massive positive.....so not too many selections from there from me despite some good racing.

Chester

2.45 This is a cracking race and very wide open, but I have a real fancy for Bernie the Bolt, he progressed well last year especially when raised to this trip, beating the useful Alanbrooke by 4 1/2 lengths, the draw isnt ideal but i'm hoping he can get into a useful position without using too much energy and run the finish out of his opponents.

3.15 I love Look Busy, she always ran well last year and is Alan Berries one stable star (shame as his dad was brilliant), she loves this ground, is well drawn and has course and distance form.

Southwell

2.25 Academy Blues looks to be a real improver, he has flown since joining Nicholls yard from Ireland, and is my selection here, although just to small stakes in a competitive field.

3.30 David Pipe does well with his flat runners, and he has strong claims in this race, Sarah's boy ran a good race last time, he is upped in trip here and will have a great chance if his stamina holds out.

4.10 This s a cracking race with a case that can be made for almost all of the runners, but I will be having a few quid on a very unexposed runner, Silver Point has some decent flat form in France and if transferring it to here, he could have a good chance at a big price.

Kelso

4.55 Benbeoch owes me after falling at the last when I had him at 130/1 on betfair, he looked the winner all the way there, he then pulled up twice before showing a return to form in a recent point...come on Benbeoch get me some money

Cheltenham

Just selections i'm afraid...i'm off to bed, be dissapointed not to get a few winners here though.

5.35 Farmer Frank

6.10 Theatre Diva

6.45 Lotta Presents

7.20 Mad Victor

7.55 King's Wood

8.25 Dr Cerullo

May do a few at Huntingdon tomorrow night, will post them later if so...

Good luck

Concentrating on Chester today, despite tricky races I do enjoy this meet. Two early selections, others may follow !

Chester :

2.15 Champagne Lifestyle : Made a nice winning debut last year before disappointing in a group race, well beaten in a race won by Music Show who is clearly a classy horse.

Some uncertainty as to whether she'll appreciate the step up in trip but is bred to stay and at around 11/2 I think it's well worth chancing a few quid on her. Very tricky race though with the front three ahead of the selection all trading around 11/4 currently. The market may well reveal more as it develops but hard to see Champagne Lifestyle drifting out beyond 11/2.

4.00 Alrasm : Alrasm shaped well on his reappearance albeit a beaten favourite, 2nd behind Miss Starlight who has since shown herself to be a smart filly when finishing 3rd at Newmarket last week in a very decent contest. Maxim Gorky is the likely favourite but at around 7/2 on BF Alrasm looks good value and should give a good account of himself.

Good luck, enjoy the racing.

Uh oh... Kip and Steve Oh both gone for a fancy of mine in the Chester Vase. This horse now seems destined for the glue pot! :D

"Horses for courses" and none more so than at Chester. With that in mind I've also gone e/w on Halla San and Direct Sea in the Vase.

Well done Chris O. 25s is a roight touch!

Bit of a stab in the dark TBH. The favourite looked far too short ( and Kip backed it lol ) so had to be opposed. Only tenous thing I could find was that William Buick has been riding well and was on the 25/1 shot which looked a big price. Not surprisingly I went ew so was really happy when it actually won, Kip's tip 2nd :D

Not surprisingly I went ew so was really happy when it actually won, Kip's tip 2nd :D

Ahh... so the real shock of the race was that Kip's selection actually placed! :D

Chester

1.45 Tight one to open with, Bathwick Bear is the choice at prohibitive odds.

2.15 Myplacelater front runner with the plum draw.

2.45 Som Tala, Direct Sea and Halla San e/w and Tricast (I'm that confident!!!)

3.15 I've backed Fol Hollow to win, plotted up, happy to ignore his Epsom run as he missed the kick but he finished like a train. Pavershooz is the value angle in this at 25s, again nice draw and his price reflects what seems on paper a poor run but when you factor in he burst a blood vessel he is worth a go e/w.

Full selections for today including the 2 from earlier :

Chester:

1.45 : I agree with Sir Cato that Bathwick Bear is hard to oppose but not backable at the short price.

2.45

Bernie The Bolt - e/w. Available at 10/1 (Skybet)

Desert Sea - e/w. Available at 10/1 (General) (Don't think there is a horse Direct Sea TBH !)

Swingkeel – Win bet . Available at 10/1 (General)

Even though this race is over 18 furlongs the draw often plays its part. Bernie The Bolt hasn't, unfortunately, fared very well on that score and he will need plenty of good fortune to prevail. However he proved very progressive over long trips last season and signed off the campaign with an easy defeat of solid yardstick, Alanbrooke. This demands more from an eight pound higher mark but if his talented jockey can plot an unhindered path he could be on the premises come the business end of the race. The yard are in form and have a profitable 17% strike rate at the track in recent seasons. Desert Sea has a good draw in stall 3 and went close in this race last year. He runs from the same mark today and is reunited with Martin Dwyer for the first time since. He has won first time up for the last two seasons and is likely to have been aimed at this race by a yard whose horses are in good form under both codes. The most interesting horse in the race is Red Cadeaux. If he stays the trip he would be a massive danger, and although he’s not bred to, if he is to stay it on any course it would be Chester, where less emphasis is put on Stamina due to being constantly on the turn. Swingkeel is another of interest. He is well drawn, and looks sure to go well today on a track that should suit.

3.15 -

Green Manalishi - Win bet. Available at 7/1 (General)

Look Busy - Win bet Available at 7/1 (General)

Obviously the draw can be very important over five furlongs here and the two that appeal most from those drawn low are Green Manalishi and Look Busy. Green Manalishi was below par at Dundalk last time out but he has only disappointed once in eight outings here, winning three times. That disappointment came from the widest draw so it is probably best forgiven. He was fifth in this race last year from stall 13 so he looks primed for a big run from a much better draw. Effective on good ground and he has won from much higher marks in the past. The stable in very good order. Look Busy rarely runs a bad race and hasn't disappointed here in six previous visits. Five furlongs is her best trip and she could be a potent force back in handicap company after plying her trade mainly in Listed/Group company last season.

4.35 Longliner Win bet Sir Michael Stoute has won three of the last five renewals of Chester's finale and Longliner attracted plenty of money before finishing down the field in the hotly contested 'Timeform' event won by Coordinated Cut at Newmarket three weeks ago. Hopefully can recoup losses today at around 7/2.

A couple at Kelso:

2.35

Mountskip - Win bet Available at 8/1 (General)

Claude Carter - e/w. Available at 20/1 (General)

A run on heavy ground aside, Mountskip has a progressive profile at a lowly level over hurdles. This is only his seventh start over obstacles and, although up two pounds for being beaten into second last time out, the winner is a highly progressive individual. Mountskip handles ground from g/s through to g/f and there should be more to come from him under a good three pound claimer. Claude Carter had some reasonable Bumper form at this track but five outings over hurdles have seen him well beaten. However they have all come in testing conditions and he may be seen in a better light on quicker ground. This race represents his easiest assignment to date and he may still have some potential from his current mark.

5.25- Benmadigan : Win bet. Available at 7/1 (General) Benmadigan isnt the most trustworthy but has been shaping better than his most recent form figures might suggest. At 7/1 I'm prepared to take the chance he runs his race and doesn't idle too much as he has looked to do in the past.

Good luck, enjoy the racing.
