5.15 In the Avenuesandalleyways...as someone once sung (Tony Christie I think)..this horse has looked impressive winning its last two on the all weather, he was keeping on well over 7 furlongs so this step up in trip may even see more improvement.

Frankie

Yes of course it's Tony Christie Frankie, the theme tune for the 70's show The Protectors !!

Was re-released a few years back. I always remember it as there was a similar programme on at the same time, The Persuaders with Christie and Roger Moore and for some reason I often associate the song with that programme. Anyway I'm sure you were desperate to know that :D

Fontwell 6.10 Smooth Classic has been backed into as short as 100/30 from an early 12/1. Not putting this up as a tip as the value is surely gone but may be of interest.

Also well backed :

Muss 2.10 Dower Glen

Ling 3.50 Lowdown : Did have a word for this one when it was 6/1 and had a wager on it, now into 7/2 and hopefully if it gets much shorter I could be into lay back territory. However, the horses I have been hearing about haven't been up to much lately so for better or worse largely concentrating on my own picks/analysis :D

3rd in a 3 way photo at 11/4, shorthead x 2. Normal service resumed !

Nice winner with Carlton Scroop Frankie, credit the jockey for a very patient ride.Add Storm Ultralight at 8/1 too. Won easily!

Onwards and upwards, nice work yesterday guys:)

Lingfield

2.50 Hidden Fire: Very speculative ew bet at around 33/1, favourite is likely to be Streets of War but at around 6/4 looks way too short, with William Buick riding out of his skin this could make the frame at a good price.

Doncaster

3.35 Abayaan : Abayaan is totally unexposed in handicaps. With the prospect of more to come up in trip rates a confident selection. Bollin Greta looks the main danger and one to look out for in the market.

4.45 Realisation : Rigidity looks the one to beat but is short enough at 11/8. At around 6/1 Realisation looks to have plenty of scope for improvement and looks the value in this race.

Musselburgh

4.00 Moorhouse Lad : After a promising 2008 lost form but looks to have come back this season rejuvenated. Should enjoy this sharp 5f race and gets the vote over City Dancer on her seasonal debut.

Well that was highly succesful with Just Moorhouse Lad at a skinny 11/8 and 3 other losers already :(

Huh, what the hell happened in this race ?? Listened on the radio, it finished plumb last and was settled as a loser on BF as you'd expect. Now it's showing on Ceefax as winning at 25/1 :smt102

Where is everyone when I need them !

5.05 - Musselburgh - Dubai Dynamo e/w. : Consistent type, ran well on the AW when winning at Wolverhampton in March and been running soundly enough on turf. At 12/1 generally is worth an ew bet.

Lol, Dubai Dynamo ran a cracking race, 3 in photo for 2nd including DD, dead heated for 3rd at 12/1 !

At least I saw that with my own very good eyes !!

I just told you the result you c*ckle, take that back old man or it's over:smt073

The original post is still there, 2/1 you said. Luckily I finally managed to get onto ATR and watch the race for myself so I do know the result :D

So since I'm in a good mood as got my £50 from BF as well I'll let is pass but take it back ? No way Jose smiley-sport012.gif

It beat my horse, it was one of those races when you just know the one coming down the outside is going to get up on the line, that set the tone for the day, horrific. I had 1 winner from about 20:smt073

Well in that case I definitely want you to win, come on City ! They'll beat Spuds anyway.

Still can't figure out how the racing commentary was so wrong. The "result" didn't surprise me so I thought no more until I was checking the full results. At least it was finally sorted.

Of those 19 losers the only one that came close is the one that got beat by yours, it's not so bad when you get a run for your money but today was just rubbish, should of held off till tomorrows cracking racing. Was going to have a big bet on the guineas favourite. I'm gonna back Channons in the 1000, he has to win a classic one day and sunday will be that day.

Yes, I hope you are right, he's been close so many times. It is quite a feat though to pick 19 losers, were they all long odds ? I assume though you had Streets of War which did indeed look the winner, had I been able to watch it live I'd have settled for a place.

The 19 losers prices ranged from 2/1 (streets of war) up to 10/1 so not really outsiders, oh and I did a double the first won and the 2nd one came 2nd and of the 6 placepots I got none:smt073

Just fridays I go a little over the top, I treat myself to an early finish each week, if the city bet doesn't come in then I won't be treating myself anymore.

The City bet WILL come in, if you are worried can you not back Spuds to finish 4th and hedge your bets or is that "too safe" ! You have one half of the double already so you could guarantee a nice profit either way by doing that. Liverpool have little or no chance of 4th.

Spuds are currenty 4/5 so I would need to put quite a bit on to make it worth while.

If Spurs and city both win tomorrow, which I expect them to then I am going to back spurs for 4th as no-one else will be able to get 4th, as it stands Villa could still get 4th, as could but very unlikely are the scouse losers.

Aren't City and Spurs playing each other at Maine Road some time ?

Early thoughts for Saturday :

Newmarket:

3.40 Sole Power ew : Promising at 2 yrs, placed in listed event at the Curragh and sales race at York before landing short odds in Dundalk maiden. Progressive looking horse and may well be more to come from this Edward Lynam trained horse, a trainer who knows what's needed at this level. Amour Propre is the likely favourite and looks the one to beat but at 16/1 the selections rates as excellent ew value IMO.

Goodwood

2.50 Ocean Blaze : Having looked at this race more closely I'm coming down in favour of Ocean Blaze. Should have progressed from 2 previous starts this season and all her wins have come over 5f on turf. Absa Luta and Osiris Way are obvious dangers but I'm going to opt for Ocean Blaze at around 3/1.

3.25: Kerry's Requiem: Having opted for this Micky Channon trained filly yesterday I'm going to stick with her. Has been stated to be "ungenuine", has finished 2nd on both starts this term but I'm not convinced she is ungenuine and I think she may well prevail today albeit in what is a wide open race.

Newmarket 3.05 2000 Guineas Xtension ew :

Not surprisingly St Nicholas Abbey is a clear favourite and is hard to oppose. However, at around 5/4 and quite likely to shorten further it may pay to look for an ew option. Canford Cliffs and Azwaan are likely to run well at decent prices but Xtension has impressed on 4 previous starts, the trip should not be a problem and currently trading at a best priced 22/1 ( Bet 365, Totesport, VC) which looks a shade over priced ( only 16/1 at Stan James).

Ok, this may well be it for today :

1.55 - Newmarket - Sandor - e/w. Available at 25/1 (General)

Seriously competitive and wide open with a number open to further improvement this season. Dalradian and Brunston come into the race in very good form and both Shamali and Ithinkbest rounded off last season with two wins apiece. However at a much bigger price it may be worth chancing Sandor. His campaign ended on a low note at Chester in August but he wouldn't be the first horse to run poorly there. Prior to that he had been progressive from 8 to 10 furlongs on both the polytrack and turf, his best effort coming when three lengths 5/16 to Roman Republic in a Heritage Handicap at Goodwood. That was strong three year old handicap form and he is bred to progress again as a four year old. The yard, historically, don't send out many early season runners but they do pick up in this month. They send just the one to the races today and employ a top jockey who has a 28% strike rate on their turf horses in recent seasons.

2.15 - Goodwood - Curacao - Available at 11/2 (General)

Returned to be narrowly beaten over 12 furlongs at Kempton and is unexposed over a trip at which he was a winner from a two pound lower mark last July at Salisbury. That came at the expense of today's favourite, Devil To Pay, and he is weighted to confirm that result. The selection is versatile regarding ground conditions and, with the yard in good form, he looks primed for a big effort. A slight concern is two moderate efforts on his previous two visits to this track but he has improved since as he has been stepped up in trip and he doesn't have the hassle of having to travel far to this venue.

3.05 - Newmarket - The 2000 Guinneas:

Fencing Master - e/w. Available at 14/1 (General)

Xtension - e/w. Available at 25/1 (Victor Chandler)

Major Trends:

Based on the trends from the past 10 years you are looking for a horse:

By a sire who had won a group 1 over a mile and finished in first 4 in a 2000 Guineas

Born before 07/04/2007

Won on racecourse debut

Run at least 3 times (or unbeaten)

Finished in the first 3 last time out

Having first run of the season (or 1st or 2nd in Craven)

Won a group race

Won over 7/8 furlongs

Trained in Ireland, especially by Aidan O’Brien

Priced 9/2 to 11/1.

Just adding Fencing Master to my earlier tip Xtension and a few more thoughts. It's difficult to say just how good some of these are or could be. St Nicholas Abbey looked mightily impressive in winning his three races last season but he meets some speedier types here. He is likely to simply outclass all of them but, at prohibitive odds, he is worth taking on, and even if he proves to be as good as he promises, there is money to be made in the place market. Stable mate, Fencing Master, hasn't done anything wrong in his two outings to date, improving massively when running another stable mate, Beethoven, close in the Dewhurst here in October. He still showed signs of greeness that day and is bred to appreciate the step up to a mile. He satisfies enough trends to make him of interest at a double figure price. The same comments apply to Xtension who was a nose behind Fencing Master in that Dewhurst. He has improved with each of his four outings and the step up to a mile for the first time is likely to bring about further progression.

4.05 - Thirsk:

Collateral Damage - e/w. Available at 12/1 (Stan James)

Medici Pearl - ew Available at 16/1 (General)

This race is always very competitive and this renewal is further complicated by the threat of impending heavy rain. That could scupper the chances of some of these but one who would welcome it is Medici Pearl. A winner of 7 of her 34 races, six of those victories have come in ground softer than good. She does however handle good ground so she is quite capable of a big run without the addition of further rain. She ran an eye-catching race on her return at Pontefract, finishing in midfield without being given a hard time. She is on a competitive mark and, although never figuring from four pound higher in this race last season, that came on fast ground and better can be expected under today's conditions. Stable mate, Collateral Damage, also looks to hold a good chance. He was back to his very best last season and is not ground dependent. He looked badly in need of his reappearance at Doncaster and, with that run behind him, he could be a much different proposition today.

5.45 - Thirsk - Lucky Art - Available at 9/1 (Sportingbet) Both career wins have come over C&D and 3 lb below last winning mark. Back to form when first home on unfavoured side at Ripon last time, and repeat of that would see him bang there.

7.50 - Doncaster - Pusey Street Lady - e/w. Available at 10/1 (General) Useful 6f performer at her peak. Found winning better races beyond her last year, but offered more back in a handicap off reduced mark last month. Booking of Jamie Spencer catches the eye back on turf.

No, I couldn't believe it either especially as the idiot doing the online commentary called Act of War as the winner and my selection last or near the back anyway. Think he must have called it with about a furlong left as Hidden Fire flew home to pip Kip's selection !!

But kipper the nipper will do as always and find new ways to lose :D

Don't get too drunk so you can't stagger to the match.

Had a small each way on Canford Cliffs.

I had a bad start doing

Absa Lutte

Aspects of Love

Sophies Beau who went off like a train then ran out of puff over a furlong out!!!

Managed to claw back all my stakes plus a small bit more with Casual Glimpse

and Eltheeb who strolled it with over 2 lenths to spare.

One to watch for the future is Chilworth Lad who may of beaten Casual Glimpse had he not made to run a bit wider in the last half a furlong.
