On my way home from work I popped into Corals, thought I'd have a little bet on a race of my choice, went for the 3pm at Lingfield, went for Binnion bay, had £5 on at 16/1, the price drifted to 25/1 so had another £3 on it and bugger me it won:smt110. Picked it as it had won 6 times at the course, horses for courses, lovely.

Blimey, what a shock. Well done Kipper ! I've only just realised I've won £50 from Betfair via the comp thread I posted but which only one other person seemed to do, money for nothing !!

HEHE, i'm due a day with no winners Ade...been firing them in lately, see last night?

To be honest was an awful day, a couple of seconds, can't believe cecils was beaten tonight as the stupid commentator said it had won, then a string of big priced horses flew in......still like you say mate, all losses recouped on my nap :-)

You going to the last game of the season mate, we're of to Gills on Friday, long weekend :-)

Well it was a strange old day to be sure, thank goodness for Regional Counsel after my NAP blundered at the 1st, fell at the 2nd ! Ah well, I did say he would win IF he jumped soundly :D

Could have guessed Sir Frank would win, what's in a name ! Never back any horse with Chris or any variation of Obee in the name eg Obe Gold, they hardly ever win ! Backing horses for their names is of course for the foolish but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do !

Hope BF sort out my £50 for tomorrow, looking at one horse in particular but waiting for the prices.

More winners tomorrow for this terrific ( or terrible) trio I hope.

Cheers,

Chris

Had a quick look at tomorrows cards and here are my thoughts ( evening racing when I get in tomorrow night)

Ascot has a great little card, but I think alot of the races are a watching brief with little value in opening three races, the first should go to Zebedee who looked very useful on his debut, but will be no price and the next two although small fields could be won by anything.

Ascot 3.55 A really good long distance race, and a trainer with a good eye for such a best to win this race is Mark Johnston, he runs Yes Mr President who was very impressive winning an easier contest at Ffos Las, Akmal if settles could be a danger, Askar Tau may need a run or two to get going but his trainer is in good form.

4.30 The fav will take all the beating here, but I am inclined to have a few quid on Shearman, he was very impressive on his debut, and although this is a massive step up in cclas, you wouldn't imagine connections paying to enter in this race without some sort of chance.

5.05 Another difficult race, but I am going to side with Play it Sam who progressed well last year, and hopefully will continue to do so.

5.40 Wise Dennis is a horse I have followed several times in the past, he looks to have little chance on recent runs, but his handicap mark has fallen pretty substantially and there was some encouragement on his previous to last run, so at a biggish price i am going for Wise Dennis to hopefully return to form.

Pontefract

4.40 Tom Tates, Molon Labe looks to have the sort of profile to improve now in handicap company, he has yet to race on ground this firm so that is a bit of an unknown, but in a race of ifs and buts about many runners, he could be worth a bet and may be subject to a plunge.

5.15 I like to follow horses that are in form until the handicapper gets a grip of them, Zaplamation is one such animal, he has been running superbly well, and despite finding trouble in running still won last time out, hopefully he can defy a rise in the weights.

Won't be touching Southwell with a barge pole....hopefully this will improve my luck for daytime selections for this week as runner up spot seems to be the name of the game for many selections...evening racing is bailing me out at the moment though.

Definitely on the same page as you Frankie, certainly with regards to Ascot.

2.10 Zebedee : Looks like a good thing but at around 4/11 not worth getting involved with. Really impressed me at Windsor but clearly just about everyone else unsurprisingly has the same view.

2.45 Blue Angel NAP : At 11/4 this is a horse I am going to have a little bit on. The Hannon yard are clearly in great form at present and Blue Angel was a horse that impressed me last year and been looking for to run again. May need further than a mile which is my main concern, this race should be the one to tell us.

3.10 Cityscape : Was going to be my NAP but at around 8/11 offers no value IMO. The withdrawal of Abbeyside hasn't helped the price and though Cityscape looked back in form and fitness at Newbury at beginning of April ( finished lame in the 2000 Guineas last year) and looks hard to oppose it's not going to make anybody rich though if Kip is doing one of his 1 million line placepots this could be the banker !

3.55 Akmal ew : Every horse is entitled to an off day and if we ignore Akmal's recent seasonable debut performance, the selection has a first-rate chance, given that he has won seven of his last 10 races. It is one of those races where you can make a case for several but 5/1 could be an ew steal and that's generally the way I go in these tricky races.

Nothing really stands out on the rest of the card though again I'm inclined to agree that Shearman might be worth a small ew punt at 16/1. Was well backed when winning last time out and it does seem highly improbable that he'd be running unless his owners had a view he has chances. Interesting that Hugh Taylor has opted for Society Rock as this will invariably ensure he goes off shorter than he otherwise would and the market suggests that already. Same thing is happening with Hugh's other tip, Jordaura in the 5.05, backed in to 8's ( 9/1 in a few places) from an early 12/1.

Also had a whisper for Wise Dennis but am reluctant to put the mockers on it. Pretty impossible to know how he will go but on some of his past form could easily win this.

Pontefract

4.05 Bollin Dolly : Finished 4th behind Aphrodisia on seasonal debut after an excellent 2 wins from 4 starts last year. Should come on for that run and is 3lb better off with Aphrodisia who looks the main danger. Umverti could go well at around 12/1 if she can step up on recent form.

4.40 Beat The Rush : Only 5 go to post though only All Moving Parts looks to be without chances. That said I'd be surprised if Beat the Rush and Molon Labe weren't the two that end up contesting this so odds on either Frankie or myself will be on the winner of this race! However, had a very good word for my selection and going to run with it.

One so far for tonight :

Kempton 9.10 Caprio ew : Back to best this winter, winning 3 times, including over C&D in February. Beaten less than a length when third to Jake The Snake here last time and 4 lb better off now. Looks very likely to at least make the frame and 8/1 looks a fair enough price.

Good luck, I may or may not have a few more selections, I generally like evening racing at Kempton so will have a closer look later.

You'll be pleased to hear that work has kept me away from the gee gees the last few days... but the win machine is back!!!

Ascot is the main focus this afternoon:

2.10 Pick A Little - not much form to go on. Zebedee was highly impressive lto. My pick knows how to win and I expect it to give Zeb the most to do.

2.45 Bella Swan - to hopefully frank the Pipette form, she being my Oaks hope.

3.20 King of Dixie - Cityscape should win but odds are prohibitive and shorter than I expected giving King of Dixie a bit more of a value look.

3.55 Mojave Moon - bred to stay, stay and stay. Some half decent bits of form in middle distance races last year. Only real concern is will it settle if not given the lead. Godolphin are flying, the early return to HQ seems to have worked so far.

4.30 Mon Cadeaux - decent little race this. I like 4 in this so gone for a bit of value. Baldings horses have been running well.

5.05 Hail Promenader - Ellemujie is main danger to this Hills horse.

5.40 South Cape - I've a lot of time for Gary Moore, even more so when he gives his son the leg up. Has been steadily backed this morning.

Nice couple of winners there mate with King of Dixie and South Cape..

Just the one winner for me today, although a nice price, Wise Dennis also ran well but couldnt peg back South Cape.

Quick look at tomorrow afternoons card.

Redcar has some small fields but I have a couple of fancies there.

3.00 Red Scintilla has shown some ability, especially last time when running very wide, but still managed to get in the shake up and wouldnt have to improve too much to take a hand in proceedings. (2nd 8/1)

4.30 Lockantanks has been highly tried since leaving Mick Channons yard two runs ago, back in a claimer he stands to have a very good chance. (4th)

Folkestone

2.10 Richard Hannon has started the seaon on fire and he runs First Term here, he has only shown moderate form in maidens (although he found plenty of trouble in running last time) but on his handicap debut you would like to think he would improve, let's hope he doesnt get a detention :-) (Non runner)

5.10 I followed Diamond Twister alot last year, unfortunately he managed to get second on many occasion and has only won once in his career, he is on a low handicap mark though and his last run was full of promise, the trainer is in form too, so lots of positives, and no seconds please. (2nd 7/2)

Hereford

4.20 Niceonefrankie...just have to pick it. (2nd 6/1)

Good luck

Frankie

Bloody hell a day of seconds today frustrating

Not the greatest of cards today. Some value picks:

Folk 2.10 Fine Silk (7/1)

Folk 2.40 Caramelita (10/1)

Folk 3.40 Equinity (12/1)

Folk 4.10 Mottys Gift (6/1)

Folk 5.10 Addwaitya (5/1)

Playing singles, acca, doubles and trebles on this merry bunch.

Full steam ahead for the Guineas meeting, I'm in Munich this weekend but I'm on at fancy prices for the 2000 on Canford Cliffs and Al Zir and for the 1000 Hibaayeb.

Giddy Up!!

Ok, full membership restored I'm sure you'll be thrilled to know so here are today's winning bets !

Hereford

3.50 Line Artic: Has been running well of late, losing nothing in defeat behind Woolcombe Folly at Cheltenham recently having won a novice handicap at Kempton the time before, and she has every chance off a mark of 127. No great price at 6/4 but with Prince De Marais a N/R looks the one to beat.

4.20 Blue Spartan : Simply can't have Nice One Frankie, silly bet ! The selection performed Ok on the flat but seems to have taken to hurdling well and seems on the upgrade. Roodolph could be the one to follow him home.

2.10 Folkestone Crazy Parachute: Son of Bahamian Bounty and a useful 6f to 1m winner. Travelled well when sixth of 10 on debut at Lingfield (6f) recently and should improve. Market support this morning may well be significant.

4.00 - Redcar Solar Spirit :- e/w Knocked on the door several times without success for current yard last season (tried in headgear). Potentially well treated though may need another run under his belt. That said cannot be dismissed lightly and 10/1 looks a fair price.

4.10 Folkestone Cool Kitten : Been well supported this morning, last-time-out winners Decency and Mottys Gift are both likely to go well, but it may be worth chancing the well-bred Cool Kitten on her handicap bow. William Buick partnered a well-backed winner for the yard earlier in the month and it could be significant that hes been booked to ride this one.

4.50 - Hereford:The Fox's Decree:- Best effort over hurdles when third off this mark in 2m handicap at Uttoxeter last time when chasing home the very progressive and well treated Flower Haven. Shaping as if return to further will suit.Martin Keighley does OK with the horses he sends to Hereford and the selection looks to be on the up.

Inchloch - e/w. Pulled up both starts since returning from year off, though travelled well long way over 3m at Cheltenham on latest and looks worth another chance at around 12/1.

6.00 - Brighton - Ocean Countess: A quick hat-trick of wins at up to 1m here last autumn. Not so good on polytrack subsequently, but only 3 lb higher than for last win and record at this course very much a positive, looks a decent bet at around 6/1.

6.30 - Brighton - Dazzling Begum : e/w.Won 3 times on various surfaces in 2009, and back to form when landing weak race at Wolverhampton in February. Last 2 runs not as good which is a worry but looks a good ew bet at 14/1 (General)

7.00 - Brighton - Goose Green: In fine form on turf last year, won 3 handicaps off lower marks (including twice over C&D). Encouraging reappearance and, though he didnt build on it last time, cant be ruled out here at a decent price ( 7/1 with Totesport)

8.00 - Brighton - Wrenningham: Did well over the winter, winning twice over 5f at Kempton. Has much lower turf mark and placed at Folkestone and Nottingham recently. May still have more to come for his shrewd stable and could well add to his victory at Yarmouth earlier in the month. Thoughtsofstardom and Sherjawy look best of the rest.

Thankfully it appears I have avoided duplicating any of Sir Cato's dodgy looking tips :D

Seems to be a day of seconds today of 5 selections today I have had 3 seconds (8/1, 6/1, 7/2) a fourth and a non runner...hopefully evening will bail me out again.

Frankie

quick one before its off.

Brighton 6.00 - The form of Stuart Williams is patchy at the moment and he is a trainer i normally follow with interest, but I can't back his Billberry here, I have to go for inform Balding and My Learned Friend, he has course and distance form which is important on this track and he hasnt been treated too harshly after a quiet reappearance.

Selection : My Learned Friend

Huntingdon

6.10 Last One Standing has some good form in bumpers, there are question marks over all of these so it is worth chancing a small punt on him on his hurdling bow.

6.40 Laharna has course and distance form here, and is on a nice mark to win again, he has not run with much zest recently but hopefully the change of ground and a return to his place of winning will help.

7.10 If by chance...been running well on the flat and is relatively unexposed over jumps.

8.10 Surely Tony McCoy will win with one if not two of his mounts here tonight, if American World is unsuccessful in the 7.40 I really fancy Knock Em Dead to give him a winner in this anyway, his last run was encouraging so fingers crossed.

Thanks :) Yes, 2nditis is normally my forte ! I did notice your run of 2nds, means you're not far off Frankie!

Cool Kitten also did the business at 9/2 so I should finish the day in profit!

Brighton Selections

6.30 William Knight had the best days training of his life yesterday and I hope his good form continues in this race with Peintre D'argent, he has looked much improved since joining this stable, winning and running a good race in defeat...I had a little look at Turner's Touch but he has never won on turf and Achromatic is from a stable that can get them ready but he looks disappointing and would have to improve alot to win.

Got to go so just selections

7.00 Altimatum

7.30 Choreography

8.00 Sherjawy

Nothing stands out tonight as a nailed on bet..so no nap and small stakes

It's ok, you didn't put the mockers on Cool Kitten and Ocean Countess :D

Most of yours did run Ok:

Fine Silk 2nd at 10/1 ran well but just found Diamond Johnny G too good. Folowed by Carmelita at 9/2, also 2nd . You and Frankie have both clearly learnt from me lol Addwaitya was a nice runner at 7/2, good little race even though only 4 ran.

Right tomorrows selections, hope to keep up the decent form of the last couple of weeks

Lingfield looks a really nice meeting and I have a few fancies there:

Lingfield:

3.15 The Scorching Wind must look to recoup losses after a massive gamble on it two runs ago went amiss when he was badly hampered, as I have said on a few selections the last couple of days S Williams is not in the best of form, but I am hoping this horse has enough class to overcome that, and hopefully the yard are due a return to form soon.

3.50 Lowdown looks to be Johnstons first string with Dettori on board but I fancy Sir Frank Wappat at a bigger price, he was beaten fav last time, and ran below par, that could be down to the run coming just 8 days after winning, he has had a bit of a longer break now and he looked a good type when winning back to back races over this distance.

4.25 I tipped Marine Boy last time, but he has failed to impress on many occasion after looking brilliant on his debut, I think Gosdens will take all the beating but fancy Storm Ultralight on his debut on English shores, he has been running on the AW in Argentina and has been bought by Godolphin, he could well be anything, at a nice price it is worth a punt.

4.55 A cracking race, I hope Island Sunset comes back to form after relinquishing his unbeaten record last time, but I really fancy Mark Johnstons Eastern Aria, he ran consistently well last year and has good form at Lingfield, he has run here 3 times finishing first once and second twice, so expect a good run for your money if backing him.

Nothing much at Musselburgh catches the eye, but I may have a couple of quid on Camerooney in the penultimate race.

Doncaster

2.30 Maxwell Hawk has uninspiring form figures but has been the subject of some good money in recent runs including last time out when trailing in last, I am sure connections will want some money back soon and it's just getting the horse at the right time, hopefully that will be today, he is pretty lightly raced and may still show improved form, cheekpieces are put on today as well.

3.35 Carlton Scroop has been a model of consistency for trainer Jay, the negative is that he has never won on turf, the positive is that he has Kieran Fallon in the saddle and if he can help transfer all weather form to turf here he will take all the beating with questions marks about the other protaganists.

5.15 In the Avenuesandalleyways...as someone once sung (Tony Christie I think)..this horse has looked impressive winning its last two on the all weather, he was keeping on well over 7 furlongs so this step up in trip may even see more improvement.

On to the jumps and just a couple of selections

5.50 The Randy Bishop has not been too impressive lately, but this race is poor and on some pieces of form he has a great chance here at a nice price, his trainer is in good form too....small win

7.20 Franchoek has been largely frustrating lately, he looked as if he could be quite a machine as a juvenile but hasnt really progressed, this step up in trip may see some improvement and the able steering of AP McCoy should help.

7.50 Horsham Lad in the Hunter Chase...

Fontwell looks pretty dire fare, but a couple I will have a speculative pound or two on are.

6.40 Great Ocean Road

7.10 Pete the Feat

8.10 Ede's

Good luck all, will try and post something Saturday but will have to use my phone due to being away...take care and good luck

Onwards and upwards, nice work yesterday guys:)

Lingfield

2.50 Hidden Fire: Very speculative ew bet at around 33/1, favourite is likely to be Streets of War but at around 6/4 looks way too short, with William Buick riding out of his skin this could make the frame at a good price. Lost

Doncaster

3.35 Abayaan : Abayaan is totally unexposed in handicaps. With the prospect of more to come up in trip rates a confident selection. Bollin Greta looks the main danger and one to look out for in the market. Lost

4.45 Realisation : Rigidity looks the one to beat but is short enough at 11/8. At around 6/1 Realisation looks to have plenty of scope for improvement and looks the value in this race. Lost

Musselburgh

4.00 Moorhouse Lad : After a promising 2008 lost form but looks to have come back this season rejuvenated. Should enjoy this sharp 5f race and gets the vote over City Dancer on her seasonal debut. Won 11/8

Need a few late winners

Goodwood Saturday :

As always looks a very tricky day's racing, just a few thoughts:

2.15 Very competitive, may pay to go with Devil to Pay, the only previous Goodwood winner in the race.

2.50 Only 7 runners in this 5f sprint but several have live chances. Absa Lutte and Ocean Blaze currently trading very short so on current prices it would be Osiris Way for me.

3.25 It gets even trickier ! As Micky Channon runs Kerry's Requiem in this and the current 5/1 looks a fair price this would be a tentative selection.

4.00 Shamwari Lodge is horse I like but is no price at all. MC runs another, Please Sing, in this. Finished 5th behind Shamwari Lodge ( 13/8 fav) at Kempton earlier in the month and though seems unlikely to reverse that form I think at the current BF price of around 16/1 looks worth a small ew bet.

4.35 Would really pass on this, 12 runners and few without chances and several newcomers in the field. Might be worth a market check tomorrow, really can't call this race with too little to go on.

5.10 Casual Glimpse from the Hannon yard is likely to win this but also looks likely to be odds on. Fred Willets has at least run before along with Terry's Flutter but showed very little. Another one to swerve for sure but if I had to pick one beside Casual Glimpse it would be Milldown Magic though purely on the basis of breeding.

5.40 If by now you are almost skint this is not the type of race to bail you out as it is yet another very trappy race! Until The Man looks the most likely winner and has won previously.

Anyone going, good luck. Just remember to buy a return ticket otherwise you might be walking home !!!

Thanks for that...I tend to follow Hannon/Gosden/Hills at Goodwood so may just do theirs if nothing I really fancy betting on in a race.

My Losers....

My Kingdom for a Horse 2:15

Absa Lutte 2.50

Kerrys Requiem 3.25

Aspect of love 4.00

Compton Park 4.35 based only on the facts that my nipper plays for Compton and the jockey is wearing the same colours as the team!!

Casual Glimpse 5.10

Eltheeb 5.40

Well have a good day regardless :)

Oh, just found a few RP stats, certainly confirms your faith in following Hannon !

Steady now ChrisO... pretty close so far, both "value" bets beaten a length. That might be as good as it gets!

Just to please you, I also like Goose Green and Wreningham at Brighton.

Giddy up!!

Goose Green ran a good race, just beaten into 3rd by a head and shorthead at 13/2. Wrenningham disappointing.

2.30 - Doncaster - Final Drive - e/w : Arrives here in decent form after finishing 4th on seasonal debut, this on the back of 2 wins on the AW at end of 2009. Watch Amigo should be there or thereabouts but at 9/1 Final Drive looks a good bet to finish in the frame at the very least.

3.25 - Musselburgh - Charlie Cool - Back off a career low mark that gives him a chance in handicaps. I also fancy JEWELLED DAGGER in this race, with both available at 7/1 currently likely to split stake between the 2.

5.05 - Musselburgh - Dubai Dynamo e/w. : Consistent type, ran well on the AW when winning at Wolverhampton in March and been running soundly enough on turf. At 12/1 generally is worth an ew bet.

7.20 - Bangor - Storymaker - e/w. : Finished 2nd on 3rd of last 4 starts so brings decent form into the race, this looks a good little race with Picaroon and Master Somerville likely to run well. However, at 10/1 generally I rate this a very good ew bet.

7.40 - Fontwell - Double The Trouble - NAP : His Novice form of this time last year makes his current mark of 102 look very attractive and there were encouraging signs last time out that he could be returning to that level of performance. He is still relatively unexposed over this sort of trip and, if he can put in a clean round of jumping, he could be difficult to beat in this company. He handles ground from G/S to G/F but any major rainfall could scupper his chances. Stable's only runner of the day.
