Nice one Chris O'. Good way to start the flat season. I'll be leaving the turf flat until the Guineas meeting but I will watch out for well backed Barry Hills runners - his early season stats have been consistantly good in recent years. Anyone know of other trainers that can get their runners ready early?

Thanks ! Yes, I always associate Barry Hills with good early season results and indeed at this point in the season the market can often speak volumes.

However, in the long run these were last seasons leading flat racing trainers. Mark Johnston's runners tend to run well fresh.

3 Sir Mark Prescott 61 - 270 22.6

I'm gonna start a tipping service and just copy his, I'll charge £1000 a year to be a member. Do you want to join??

As if anyone needs telling most tipsters are a waste of money this is a reasonably accurate summary of bets from many of the most well known/expensive tipping services around since 2000.

A 34% strike rate is none too bad, however what is clear from that stat is that many of the winning tips have been very short prices ! I do believe that even us lot are better than these bunch of shysters. It does not even include what I consider the worse services which are those which ask you to place usually around £20 on their behalf for any tip they give you. In other words if you are a big enough mug you take all the risk, it should be banned IMO as people are stupid/desperate enough to think they are on to a good thing when they receive an email telling them that the tips "are from very good sources". Rather like out of the horse's mouth !

TOTALS

Bets 239724

Wins 82236

Loses 157488

Win percentage 34%

Profit to advised stake -£16582.60

Level stakes profit - £14270.56

Profit to £10 stake -£143,504.87 !!

I use a service that offers what I consider to be good speed ratings. From those ratings I formulate betting strategies. For the first two months this year I have an overall ROI of 19.2%, this system is very much in it's infancy. I use this system purely in search for profit. I get involved in form etc at the big meetings, where speed ratings can become a little unreliable in such competitive racing.

That's as good a way as any that I know to make selections.

My tips for today:

2.10 - Market Rasen - Gold Reef -

3.00 - Fontwell - Entruscan - e/w. Available at 12/1 (Skybet and Ladbrokes)

3.30 - Fontwell - Quarrymount -

5.00 - Fontwell - Mr Floppy - e/w. Available at 20/1 (Betfred- Stevo's favourite bookie!)

Oh, I give up ! I managed to whittle this race to two, Gold Reef and Pokanet. I plumped for the former, result :

1) Pokanet 8/1

Gold Reef- pulled up :(
