Whitey Grandad Posted 16 March, 2009 Posted 16 March, 2009 I think it's fair to say that at the end of last season most of us went off on our summer hols with the feeling that we had turned a corner and were on the way up at last. Then you-know-who comes back and grabs the wheel and insists that he knows a better path to salvation. As most of us knew at the time, this crazy experiment had no chance of success and was doomed from the outset, yet through blind obstinacy we have continued up the wrong path for too long and now it's probably too late for us to be saved. It's quite clear to me that the man who makes the big decisions is the one who must shoulder the blame, and not for the first time. With his track-record I wouldn't want him anywhere near any enterprise that I owned.
Channon's Sideburns Posted 16 March, 2009 Posted 16 March, 2009 That just makes the team sh!te though - shame the supporters followed suite.... funny' date=' I dont recall seeing the bit in the 'how to be a fan manual' that said we should stop attending the moment the team get crap , the manager is Crap or the board is crap - If its the fans that are the ONLY thing at the club that are not crap, then we should be proud of that...[/quote'] I guess it depends on whether the manual is titled 'I am a better fan than you because I accept anything that happens' I suppose....
Mr X Posted 16 March, 2009 Posted 16 March, 2009 Wilde without a shadow of a doubt his false promises and u-turn aliance with Lowe mean we are where we are today.
WestSaint Posted 16 March, 2009 Posted 16 March, 2009 Lowe for employing Portaloo and Wotte and for not backing Pearson for manager.
Lowestoft-Saint Posted 16 March, 2009 Posted 16 March, 2009 I will blame.... F'sure Arry, Man D*ck Lowe Wilde Lowe & Wilde combined and in amongst it all a lot of so called Pro footballers who have at some stage been paid a bloody fortune to play football for SFC, but have let Us the fans down...... Football contracts should be changed.... in most jobs if you underperform you get warnings, if it still does not improve you get the boot.... time to look for another job.... Footballers should be the same.... Play crap or not put in enough effort = get warning... Continue to be as above = Get the bloody sack not a transfer and a bonus signing on fee with another club..... No i know this wont work but hey ho.... rant over lol
chi saint Posted 16 March, 2009 Posted 16 March, 2009 Without a shadow of a doubt Lowe will be most to blame for the relegation. We had a cracking manager in Nigel Pearson who united the club and who the players respected. Lowe then undid the feelgood factor and brought in two failed Lower league rejects from Holland. Lowe also loaned out Saga to Aalborg and in my opinion he would have contributed enough points to have pulled us clear had he been available all season. Once again Lowes incompetent decisions will be the reason for the continuing demise of the club. Oh yawnnnnn, give it a rest. Come up with a solution not whining on about what could have been ala Pearson. It's done, it's over, it's final ..get over it, lover boy has gone on to other things, he's left you, he's dumped you, it was nothing personal but hey it happens ...again get over it.
the scud Posted 16 March, 2009 Posted 16 March, 2009 David McGoalfluff the amount of chances this lad has missed if he took most of his chances then tbh i don't think we would in a low postion as we are in now. However, i think the whole team should be blamed simply because they havent given 100% in every game
Mole Posted 16 March, 2009 Author Posted 16 March, 2009 Oh yawnnnnn, give it a rest. Come up with a solution not whining on about what could have been ala Pearson. It's done, it's over, it's final ..get over it, lover boy has gone on to other things, he's left you, he's dumped you, it was nothing personal but hey it happens ...again get over it. Lowes decision to ditch Pearson is a major factor in us being on the brink of relegation to League 1. Football is a results driven business and Lowe has scored far too many own goals. Lowes bungling stewardship has put this club in the mess we find ourselves in.
Dalek2003 Posted 16 March, 2009 Posted 16 March, 2009 If you want the long term reasons, go back to the Spring of 2004. This is when things began to unravel.

Lowe has effectively killed this club and in not renewing Pearson's contract he has probably driven the final nails into the coffin. Sorry but to say get over it means not to care about the future of the club imho.
Mole Posted 16 March, 2009 Author Posted 16 March, 2009 If you want the long term reasons, go back to the Spring of 2004. This is when things began to unravel. I remember us playing Arsenal at Highbury around this time. I proudly held up a NO HODDLE placard. Is this relevent?
sidthesquid Posted 16 March, 2009 Posted 16 March, 2009 Personally I shall hold Stanley 100% to blame Why? Why not?

Cheeky Monkey Posted 16 March, 2009 Posted 16 March, 2009 Had stewart downing not equalised in teh last seconds of that game against boro when we were leading 2-0 into the last few minutes we would not have been relegated. I blame Downing...
Frank's cousin Posted 17 March, 2009 Posted 17 March, 2009 I guess it depends on whether the manual is titled 'I am a better fan than you because I accept anything that happens' I suppose.... I have never been one for saying 'i'm a better fan' etc - the truth is as we know we do have around 15000 or so fans that will go whatever - does that make them mugs or heroes? not for me to decide, but I do think they tend to be those fans for whom the love of the club AND the game transcends everything else, they might be pished off with Lowe, the manager, the team, but have been brought up with those old school values that include acceptance that in football as in life, you take the very rough with the not quite so rough (in Saints terms ;-)) - for them its less about our league position, and more about getting the fix and that includes the pain! We then have fans for whom there needs to be a reward to justify the price (which is without doubt now a contributor to attentence figures given the economic climate) - they go to football in hope that we will achieve a result and this will set them up, make them feel good, proud etc, same as they feel bad, miserable and often angry when we loose- eg get know reward. Again its another type of fan, not necesarily better or worse, but for whom teh club and players need to ensure provide entertainment that gives VALUE for money - why pay £28 for misery and poor fare? Many of the above will still go as often as finances allow, others as cyclicly - they go, we lose, they get depressed, decide its not worth it, buta after a couple of weeks need the fix and go again in hope - economies and long term bad results just increase the tiem between attendences - these folk are naturally more likely to come when there is a greater chance of decent entertainment - eg more likely to invest in an ST when in the prem than in the CCC - does not make them bad fans, just different. BUt, you could ask the controvercial question 'should support really be influenced by results?' My answer would be that support is not, attendence is when it costs so much - and the two are different. We also have the small minority (and thats NOT a dig) who genuinely believe that under the current circumstances and managemnet, teh only way to voice their anger is protest by staying away - if this was 20,000 if would work, if its 200 it simply wont and they miss out on their fix, their choice. What Wotte and tehe club are really trying to appeal to is those in the middle ground - the fans that would have an ST in the prem and go to about 10 games in the CCC - get them to come back more by appealing to their sense of loyalty when in need financially. It makes sense because we need the money and the atmosphere created by a larger crowd. Maybe its te language that upsets folk - afterall no fans like being criticised - (How dare they) but i would suggest that those genuine protestors are not that offended, becaue they KNOW how much they miss it and its painful, but are sticking to a principle - one I dont agree with but can respect - No, IMHO i think those that are annoyed by these comments are those that simply cant be arsed going because of the poor fare, but dont want to admit it (Dont see why not as its your money and you can choose what to do with it) - fans who like to believe they are totally loyal and the best and Lowe being a miserable **** is a convenient excuse not to go.

I blame Downing... Could also blame the ref at Arsenal - scoring their equalizer in the 7th minute of injury time when only 4 had been indicated....
trousers Posted 17 March, 2009 Posted 17 March, 2009 If we go down who will be most to blame? The Boogie
Frank's cousin Posted 17 March, 2009 Posted 17 March, 2009 The Boogie LOL! ;-) Made me chuckle during my miserable morning in the office
Badger Posted 17 March, 2009 Posted 17 March, 2009 Lowe and Wilde. No other contenders. Although Wilde and his false dawn of 2006,and subsequent 'u' turn in 2008 is partially responsible for our rapid decline, the whole thing goes back to Lowe in 2004. Lowe is the reason we are now in sh!t street.
slickmick Posted 17 March, 2009 Posted 17 March, 2009 The players, they are the ones on the pitch and not winning games. And they get paid so well that our club is on the brink of administration because they bled the club dry. With the exception of 3 or 4 players, the others have been taking the p1ss for to long.

With the exception of 3 or 4 players, the others have been taking the p1ss for to long. I agree, but others will say it was NOT paying enough that led to us not attracting better players and thus led to relegation - Lowe's 'wage cap' ..... Can you imagine the potential debt situation now if we had had a 'fan friendly chairman' whn in the prem, having a free for all on wages.... oh that happened at Leeds... we ahve a big debt but the majority of it was investment in the stadium - something that allowed MORE fans to go and support their club, which was no bad thing.

Next season we could easily be below Leeds in league position, if not in divisions. Plus, they've challegened for the Prem and European Cup in the last 10 years. We've pretty much won less games then any other football league club in the same timeframe. Sure, Leeds wasn't the way to go but to say our chairman adopted a policy which was better is clearly untrue. Maybe, just maybe, if we'd have signed two or three players on big money rather than 5 or 6 on limited money, maybe then we'd still in the Prem?

Agree Frank, but I feel that the problem now is that too many have been pushed too far by the events of this season and will never return (after this debarcle of a season has ended) until the club is rid of not just Lowe and Wilde, but Askham, Richards, Old Man Withers and the other acolytes. Wasn't getting at you regarding the 'better fan' comment, just more than a bit p1ssed about some posters who try to make out that anyone is a lesser supporter just because they disagree with the regime...!!
Whitey Grandad Posted 17 March, 2009 Posted 17 March, 2009 Can I just point out that we haven't gone down yet so getting your blame in now is a bit previous?
eelpie Posted 17 March, 2009 Posted 17 March, 2009 Have the players underperformed this year? Not especially. They've not been great but i don't think you can label them as underperforming. We've just played some very poor players at times this season and not utlisied the good players well enough. The likes of Skacel and Euell have been ok when they've played, probably played better than the treatment they've had warrants, to be fair. The likes of Lancashire and Smith are probably doing as well as they can, which is someway short of the required standard in the CCC. On Saturday they were ran all over the place but were mentally, not physically, tired. They were tactically uninspired, and lacked a playmaker and leader from the midfield forwards. Hoofing against stonewalling defences is pointless. Our defence is working well. But we must score goals against teams who are determined to draw. This is the situation that we are now in. We did it a few weeks ago. So it can be done. There was no excuse for Saturday's performance against QPR. This is down to the coach.
alpine_saint Posted 17 March, 2009 Posted 17 March, 2009 Rupert James Graham Lowe and Francis Guy Askham.
londonsaint1604 Posted 17 March, 2009 Posted 17 March, 2009 I'd nominate Alpine for his negative attitude ;-)
david in sweden Posted 23 March, 2009 Posted 23 March, 2009 Who's to blame? The stay away fans IMHO:mad: I've said this before... it's all Rupert Lowe's fault ! IF he hadn't built the wonderful St.Mary's Stadium, we'd still be back at the lovely old draughty, invincible Dell stadium. Without that we'd have have no debt and all those fans who come now would all have their own seat - all 15,000 of them. Problem over...I mean, who else can we blame ? - except Lowe.
rocknrollman no2 Posted 23 March, 2009 Posted 23 March, 2009 Lowe for...... Getting rid of Pearson. Bringing in the Dutch duo. Appointing Wott, who wasnt good enough to be offered the job first time around. For playing our youth team, instead of our first team. For blaming everyone else for the state of our club. For being here. I would also like to nominate Wilde for an award of his own. Lets call it "The award for bear-face lying, being a turncoat, letting the fans down" award.
SaintRobbie Posted 23 March, 2009 Posted 23 March, 2009 Lowe. He came back, he appointed Wotte and JP, he made foolish decisions over a club policy of playing youth, he didnt have to sideline yet still pay the wages of players we needed to play for saints like Euell, Saga, Rudi. He has made the most foolhardy and crass decisions of his whole time at Saints. He represents a failed plc not a football club. He hates the fans, he has an arrogance beyond his limited ability, he is the cancer of this club. We brings no optimism, no cash, no investment. He lies. He has no integrity. He is hated by fans, players, staff and people who know him. He is Askham's puppet without knowing it. He is responsible for generating division. He has destroyed everything Ted Bates stood for. He is not from Southampton. He is a hockey player. He refuses to allow cheap pricing at matches to fill the ground. He deters fans from attending. He is hated by the press. He has made Saints a laughing stock in the media. He is hated by footballing professional and ex Saints managers. He lives for the plc not the club. He wants to continue after relegation. He wants to prove us all wrong over his youth policy - thousands of us wrong. He destroyed the Itchen corner hotbed of support in a stroke of a pen when he closed the corners. He holidayed when times were desperate. He put out our best players on loan when he neednt have. He refused to sell the club or declare it for sale. Need I go on....

PAULACZT Posted 24 March, 2009 Posted 24 March, 2009 Ted Bates and Lawrie McMenemy.....for making it look SO easy! Oh, and then Askham and Lowe for destroying all they achieved..... forget Wilde and the rest...the REAL culprits are the faceless, gutless accountant Askham and the man who lives in his own little bubble.....Mr Stupert Lowe. The fact that these two imposters STILL actually think they have taken this club forward, and have all the answers, is not just laughable it is scandalous!! The sad truth is that Mandaric and Pearson will pass us on the way down!! At least Mandaric has learned from his many mistakes and has actually appointed well, whereas Stupert ???!!!
Legod Third Coming Posted 24 March, 2009 Posted 24 March, 2009 Danny Higginbotham. Without that ridiculous own goal against Boro we would be looking forward to the fringes of Europe.
