Not exactly blessed with strength in depth at RB so who should play there next game?

I previously thought Gillett was a good option -but he is currently our best midfielder.

suspended

Cheers...I might have to sharpen up on the sand dunes of South Devon..

It might be a close call. I have the experience if you really need me.

If not will take my Ra Ra skirt and Pom Poms.:smt049

Probably go with Schneiderlin, Imudia or Hatch. Maybe even Liptak or Lancashire could do a job there.

Jermaine Wright on emergency loan from Blackpool. ;-)

Or Liptak.

what are these like at RB? (except Wright!)

Might well be Lipstick..I hear he is really good at beach volleyball.

AND

Do not forget young Pulis who is busting a gut to make the starting eleven...Vert versatile plays any position so we are told..Maybe still injured.

Could always go three at the back!

------Davis

Saeijs-Liptak-Perry

--Surman--Gillett

Lalanna------Skacel

-----McGoldrick

---Saga----Euell

Maybe swap Surman for Schniederlin

just looked at the players profiles, the only other listed defender who is said to be RB or mentioned playing there is Hatch (fit players only).

Is he any good?

I reckon James was told to get a card in the game to ensure his suspension was out of the way for the run in. The challenge he made was not necessary (by the centre line) and somewhat out of character. Then we had Jake T come into the side from out of the wilderness and I thought, hang-on I think we're seeing our new RB here!

Interesting actually, I think JT could be a better RB than James potentially as he has more pace and had proven he can get to the byline and put in a good cross (his style reminds me a little of Walcott). What is unknown is how good he is defensively - can he put a boot in where it hurts?

Why on earth would we want him suspended for Blackpool? would make far more sense to miss a game like Wolves where we have very little chance.

Blackpool is one where we have a big chance to pick up points.

Fully expect Jake Thomson to deputise in James' absence.

Is James not out for 2 games though as yesterday's booking was his 10th of the season?

Posted

The trouble with Jake at right back is that he is liable to play great for 80 minutes and then have 10 minutes where it all goes wrong. I'd rather see Imudia come in, especially against a fast winger, and replace Lallana with Thomson.

Paul Wotton is really the only option, tall centrebacks rarely play adequately at full back.

See your point, but it depends on ability. O'shea, Wes Brown and Michah Richards spring to mind

Surely we could play one of Pulis, Gasmi, Pekhart, Robertson, Molyneux, Pearce, Smith or Forecast?

We must have signed at least one of them as a right back given that we have no other options there. Otherwise that would be mental.

i like the idea of three at the back, but it would be a big gamble for such a big game as its untested by us, liptack looks solid enough. i would drop at least lallana and maybe even surman, we need more width and with two holding midfielders who can play the ball(gillett and schniederlin) the width would work well, id prefer ryan smith to thompson, more likely to go past players(just hope he can make the final ball after that).

maybe lallana for mcgoldrick as well, the free role is what hes best at, just tell him if he trys to shoot, someone else will shoot him!:)

Suggest we play all of them right back and hope Blackpool don't realise.

On second thoughts Blackpool will not realise anyway.

Thomson would be a possibility at RB, but we shouldn't risk a possible 3 points by tinkering with the side too much and playing a player out of position, especially at a crucial position like RB. Imo, we should play Saeijs at RB (apparently he can play at either CB or RB) and put Wotton in at CB with Perry. Not an especially pacy backline I know, but Blackpool don't have an especially pacy frontline either (I reckon Taylor-Fletcher could give Jon Parkin a run for his money at a pie eating contest) so that would cause minimal problems for us. It was painfully evident when we played Blackpool earlier in the season that we needed more brawn at the back, and I think that there is sufficient muscle in there to keep Blackpool at bay.

I would also play Surman at LB, because he's not done particularly well in the last few games, and I feel that we need the delivery that Skacel can give on the wings, because Saga and Euell can't just magic goals out of thin air. Skacel is a natural winger, and we can't afford to have another stalemate, putting him out on the wing will provide goals.

I would play:

-----------Davis--------------

Saeijs--Perry--Wotton--Surman

-------Gillett--Lallana----------

Thomson----------------Skacel

--------Saga--Euell------------

Subs: Bart, Liptak, Morgan, DMG, BWP

I'll play, although i didn't have the greatest games today, let down by midfield is my excuse.

JT, think he will do a good job, can't see anyone else really, spiderman doesn't challenge in midfield why would he at RB ?

Thomson doesn't challenge either and is not a defender, so why would he play right back. I would have big concerns about our chances if he starts at RB against Blackpool.

saeijs RB, liptac CB

Why upset the defence even more by moving Size? The back 5 have been by far the best aspect of our side in the last half dosen games.

I think after February 10 yellow cards is like picking up 5 so it's only a 1 match suspension

Exactly!

Surman RB

BWP RM

Mills LB

Skacel LM

Would freshen it up a bit?

At first glance, I thought this was a very worrying back four! (And that you needed medication!)

i run a tyro under 14 side and got a call from a dutchman on saturday night asking if i could make a right back available for the next 2 weeks, trip to the seaside etc, thought it was a paedo to start with but now not so sure

Would be foolhardy to break up Perry and J-P at the moment....
