Interesting. One of the world's richest sportsmen and one of the most talented wingers we have had in the England side for many years.

I assume he'll want to be closish to London, in the South for Posh and the kids. Perhaps he'll even be looking for a place to park a small yacht?

Question is. Has anyone decided to approach him about buying Saints? If not, should we not make an initial approach to him? I think we should.

Beckham will doubtless employ a well known CEO. He'll attract capital investment. He'll buy a club that is brandable in the States. He is a successful individual - unlike our current shareholders - and as such attracts winners. We have the infrastructure, family atmosphere (when Lowe is removed anyway) and location.

Beckham as owner. Better than Lowe and Askham? What do we think?

I thought he was buying an MLS team/franchise?

According to reports when he signed for Milan he was looking to buy a British team in due course. But even if not, should we not 'tempt' him?

Give him a call!!!!!

In all seriousness this is the type of thing that we as fans should be trying to do. I think its our best chance of improving the situation. Just campaigning to get rid of who ever is the bad guy at the time does nothing to make things better. So if we can find a way to approach someone who can genuinly improve our situation then I think its a great idea.

Not sure Becks will have that much interest in us and maybe we might need someone who has a bit more afinity to the club. If Shearer was richer then there would be more chance to attract him than becks for instance.

As for any other Billy Big Wallets floating around in Dubai or somewhere? We just need to convince them there could be a way of making money in the area. Surleya we have enough fans that can paint a good picture for us all to sell?

Mods, please lock this thread or have those responsible sectioned under the mental health act.

LOL! Well done Block... this is exactly what I wanted to highlight. If we fail to show imagination, fail to hunt for a buyer or set our sites low and fail to show ambition, we'll always be a nothing Club under a consolidated extra shareholding Mr Lowe.

It's time to seek a buyer again. We havent actively looked for one since SISU. Why? Is it because our shareholders are looking to consolidate their holding through administration?

Why should we be prepared to roll over and die any longer? Let's find a buyer and move on up.

LOL - maybe Trousers maybe. But, Becks is only one of many people who are out there looking to buy a football club.

I say we form a sales team and actively go out and find a buyer. [again!]

I read last week that the wallets are all fleeing Dubai because they're losing £thousands every week on their properties. They're all just abandoning their Ferraris with the key in the ignition too!

No doubt Phil will tell us this just ain't so :D

lol I will book a ticket out there now. How many Ferraris will I need to sell over here to be able to afford to buy the saints?

Seriously though, there are still people out there stupid enough to buy a footy club and we wont cost anything in the region of what Man City and Chelsea cost so I think its still possible to find someone. Maybe not from Dubai but there must be someone.

A For Sale campaign IMO is better than a Lowe/Wotte/Wilde/Crouch/board/Big bad Wolf Out campaign any day of the week.

Yeah...anyone got his mobile number? *rollyeyething*

This was banded about some time ago, but with the reported wealthiest men loosing a quarter of their fortune surely those who advise 'wealthy' men wouldn't endorse a football club purchase.

I understand the logic behind Saintjays last post in marketing our club on mass, there is a link with posts today, Coldplay drummer speaks to his lead singer who by marriage is part of the hollywood fraternity who then has lunch(a lettuce leaf) with posh and plants the seed, create a consortium job done, easy, no ?

Im sure LongLifeLiar had the idea about talking to Beck... :D

I thought he already had and it was a done deal - with Beckham soccer schools feeding our academy .... or it could have all beeen bullSh1ite ...;-)

My point too, when I read the title of the thread.

An MLS team, yes. Unlikely he would have an interest in Saints, more likely Leyton Orient, if he did want to invest in a British club.

Especially if they might be playing in the Olympic Stadium after 2012..

Posted

Funniest thing I've seen on here in yonks! It's blatantly Orient and I thought that was common knowledge.

I doubt he has much love for us what withall the **** we've sung at him over the years anyway.

Posted
saints are some what known in america have a very good brandable name beckham wants a club with a good youth set up.

You are obviously at the Pub - what the hell is that meant to say....??

Posted

It's well documented that Beckham has gone on record to say amongst the handful of clubs he used to hate playing against was Southampton because the fans gave him so much stick. I cant see him having positive thoughts about us when it comes to him choosing a club to buy, which would more than likely be Leyton Orient anyway.

Posted

I shall suggest Saints to him on his official website. I assume he has one. (I put the 2nd sentance in to reassure people I'm not a gayer.)

More importantly, does he need any photocopiers?

Now now - as we have been taught, photocopiers are excellent devices for producing 'Blueprints for Success'... ;)

When Becks was asked about his ambition of eventually owning a football club in some interview, he did actually mention Southampton by name as being the right size/profile etc. etc. etc. (Remember, it was rumoured that his Lady Wife has her own private lift at SMS). I think Jackson took this to mean that it was definately happening and went about trying to work out how he could become the fix it man.

I tend to go with Trousers' 'pie in the sky' thoery myself but you never know!

Sorry Robbie, you're quite right.

I have just emailed david.beckham@broadmoor.gov.org but the email was returned undelivered.

Perhaps you could give him a message next time you bump into him in the communal TV room at Broadmoor?

Sorry, should have put a winky thing after that but when SMS was first built, there was a rumour going around that The Beckhams had paid for a lift to be installed so that Posh could get directly to the VIP sections without having to mix it with the oiks of the prawn sandwich brigade and the Lowe life.

There are not enough LOL smilies in the world to adequately describe my reaction to this.

Even if for some crazy reason beckham did decide to 'raise the football profile in southampton' and attempt to buy us out i should imagine lowe would attempt to put that blockers on it unless he paid some crazy price.

Besides, we would probably end up with the neville brothers on the board. And i couldn't think of anything worse lol

It's worse than that....

Although it isn't "mentioned" "rumours" abound that some Gov type organisations actually ran out of money completely and bounced cheques around the town. The Gov joined in the Ferrari dumping property types in hopping on the first plane.... allegedly

But then Abu Dhabi bailed them out, the fall out is still shaking down through the upper echelons and nobody quite knows who will actually get their hands on the cash when it arrives.

TBH good riddance to all those a**holes in the property boom - arrogant t*ssers the lot of them. The rest of us are enjoying the "slightly" emptier roads and ain't missing the boring drone of "oh ya luvvie I flipped 14 floors on the Burj last week, made a new Ferrari, why you in IT?"

Trust me we pass by that airport car park every day. Ain't found a ferrari with the keys in yet - I mean - still insured and no speeding/parking tickets....

But hey don't let it mess with the idea of a good story in the Gruaniad

The REALITY is that yes, people in debt do HAVE to do a runner as there is no bankruptcy protection here - you get sent to jail for bouncing a cheque and if you are in debt you stay in jail until you paid it off... some property types here have 100k of cash and debts of 100mil. How long they gonna stay behind bars.... so running is the name of the game... and pray you only owe cash to a small bank as all the others use global heavies for debt collection!

Don't worry Mick, the men in white coats will be around soon to take them away !!

Well he has said he wants to buy a British club, and we are British. The club does have everything set up and ready to go after a cash injection. The biggest stumbling block is that the same could be said of many other UK clubs, so while it is possible, it is by no means probable.

I heard he's interested in buying Leyton Orient

No he isn't. This is pure speculation due to one of Beckham's former advisors involved in a consortium looking at Orient. Beckham is not a part of that group in any way.
