Ponty Posted 11 March, 2009 Share Posted 11 March, 2009 I would normally advise against betting on the Formula One World Championship, but Jenson Button's BrawnGP001 is looking very, very fast. Unless they're courting sponsorship they are so far ahead of everyone else, in terms of race simulation pace, that the rather long odds (between 66 and 80 to 1 I've seen today) look very tempting for a small punt on Jensen or Reubens for the drivers' championship. My caveat would be that a lot of teams will never run a low fuel quali simulation in Winter testing and Button may be running without a 30kg KERS unit installed and no replacement ballast, giving around 80kg of unladen advantage. BGP say they're not running light and insist we're seeing true pace. If that's the case, they'll be light years ahead in Melbourne.
Pancake Posted 13 March, 2009 Share Posted 13 March, 2009 Button at 14/1 and Barri at 33/1 makes for a good tenner on each IMHO with Ladrbokes today.
Pancake Posted 13 March, 2009 Share Posted 13 March, 2009 Willy Hills have Barri at 12/1 for the Australian win, that might be worth a sneaky punt also. (Button is 7, Kimi 9/2 and Lewis 15/5 for comparison)
Ponty Posted 13 March, 2009 Author Share Posted 13 March, 2009 Should've done it Wednesday when odds in the 60s were available.

Hatch Posted 20 March, 2009 Share Posted 20 March, 2009 Did anyone who bet on Button ( or anyone else for that matter) get their bets cancelled due to 'the rule changes'?
Ponty Posted 20 March, 2009 Author Share Posted 20 March, 2009 I didn't. Despite advising many others to do so, it seemed a little unhealthy to bet against my own team.
Ponty Posted 28 March, 2009 Author Share Posted 28 March, 2009 So, anyone follow my tip?
Hatch Posted 30 March, 2009 Share Posted 30 March, 2009 I got on at 16/1. Now as short as 9/4 in some places.
keithd Posted 30 March, 2009 Share Posted 30 March, 2009 i'm sorry, have i been in a coma and missed 10 or 11 races? i'm not knocking your suggestion to have a punt on Benjamin Button, but the odds now being quoted are outrageous!! 9/4? is a disgrace... good luck to thems that have got on at a good price tho

(Button is 7, Kimi 9/2 and Lewis 15/5 for comparison) £20 in, £70 back, not bad I guess.
Hatch Posted 18 June, 2009 Share Posted 18 June, 2009 I got on at 16/1. Now as short as 9/4 in some places. Paddy Power have paid out on Button winning the F1 WDC today. Result, don't have to wait until September or whenever now for my winnings.
