Proud to be White Michael Richards makes his point.............. Michael Richards, better known as Kramer from TVs Seinfeld, makes a good point. This was his defense speech in court after making racial comments in his comedy act. He makes some very interesting points... ‘Someone finally said it. How many are actually paying attention to this? There are African Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian Americans, Arab Americans, etc. And then there are just Americans. You pass me on the street and sneer in my direction. You call me 'White boy,' 'Cracker,' 'Honkey,' 'Whitey,' 'Caveman'..... and that's OK. But when I call you, ******, Kike, Towel head, Sand-******, Camel Jockey, Beaner, Gook, or Chink .. You call me a racist. You say that whites commit a lot of violence against you... so why are the ghettos the most dangerous places to live? You have the United Negro College Fund. You have Martin Luther King Day. You have Black History Month. You have Cesar Chavez Day. You have Yom Hashoah. You have Ma'uled Al-Nabi. You have the NAACP. You have BET... In the Million Man March, you believed that you were marching for your race and rights. If we marched for our race and rights, you would call us racists. You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and orange, and you're not afraid to announce it. But when we announce our white pride, you call us racists. You rob us, carjack us, and shoot at us. But, when a white police officer shoots a black gang member or beats up a black drug dealer running from the law and posing a threat to society, you call him a racist. I am proud... But you call me a racist. Why is it that only whites can be racists?’ There is nothing improper about this e-mail. Let's see which of you are proud enough to send it on. It is actually a very good speech but it wasn't the point I was making. If you allow white "British" people to have a point of view you can't then take it away from others just because they are Muslims, black or whatever. Agreeing with his comments in his speech is not the same as saying they have no rights to protest or that they should all **** off home, not in the slightest.

I could not do the job that the Army does. Saying this however, the protesters should not be aiming their disagreement towards the servicemen and women directly but the MoD and government. Soldiers become mere working class pawns in all of this and the government should have been, long before now, held to account for the crimes that they have FORCED these servicemen and women to do!

I wonder what Australia's aboriginal people think of this view of their country's culture and history? By the way, this "Christian" God that is spoken of above is the same God that the Muslims believe in - just a different name. Both religions are monotheistic; to speak philosophically, they just use different names for the same "ground of being".

You know - about what might, just might, have led to the problems in the first place.

I am fully aware of the politics and history behind it all. What I do know, is that the vast majority of Republican people hated me when I was on patrol, would spit at me, petrol bombs, and in one instance shoot ( but miss, lol ) . Whereas Protestant people would invite me into their house for a cup of tea, shake my hand and teh ladies would flash their boobies. Excuse me for being a bit biased. :-)

When people start quoting an Australian prime minister (Australia's human rights record is utterly appalling) or a racist comedian (the only thing people should be saying more often is that Sinfield was rubbish) on ethical or racial issues, you just know we're phucked as a nation. The next generation won't just be sorting out our financial mess, but also having to deal with our moral bankruptcy. I for one believe in the right to protest and free speech for all. I do not believe in this mentality of 'all our boys fighting abroad are heroes and its wrong to criticise them whilst the they're serving', that's the kind of blinkered mentality allowed the holocaust to happen. I appreciate troops do a $hitty job with 2nd rate equipment, and yes, having their noses rubbed in it on their return home is tough on them, but they freely chose to join the army in the first place and aren't they supposed to be tough lads? And its not like they've just returned home from destroying the death star or freeing the ewoks, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have been deeply unpopular from the start, and have IMO made the world, and in particular this country, a much more dangerous place. And for anyone "special" enough to think that the current situation (previously known as the war on terror) is about race, that this is somehow a war of civilisations, a conflict between the West and the East, then explain to me how the most fanatical, hard-line and oppressive Isamic nation on Eath is also the West's closest allie, money-lender and oil supplier, Saudi Arabia, the nation that gave us Osama Bin Laden and 7 of the 9/11 high-jackers. As other posters have pointed out, this is only news because it can appease the knee-jerk racists out there.
