Lazlo78 Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 Well I have given up. It's all symbolic of our struggle against reality, Reg. I could never berate anyone neither for keeping hope nor for giving up, as you people have to put money and time into this. It's easy for me to keep hope 'cause I don't have to endure the bi-weekly defeat at SMS, thinking about how my money could have been spent better elsewhere. On that note, I was absolutely thrilled to see the attendance figure for the Palace game - what a display of loyalty from a group of fans hoping for the best but truly expecting the worst... The9 Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 We only need all of the games this weekend to go our way (ie Saints win everybody else lose), followed by beating Forest (irrespective of the other results in the final day). I suppose theoretically we only actually need us to win, Forest to lose on Saturday and Norwich to lose on Monday, and then us beat Forest. That leaves Norwich and Forest unable to catch us, and it doesn't matter what Barnsley do. Barnsley losing on Saturday too just gives us a chance even if Norwich get a result on Monday. Feeling a smidge more positive about it today. Basically in the last two games we need to win one match more than Norwich and two more than either Barnsley or Forest. sidthesquid Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 Well I have given up. It's all symbolic of our struggle against reality, Reg. I have to. I've had a long struggle with reality & I may be losing it, but I remained unbeaten. I shall be back next season ready to resume my battle - prepared for another year of misery, false optimism & pain, willingly traded for those fleeting moments of hope & joy

So if Forest of Barnsley win none we still need to win two? Either way, we need to win both our games whatever happens. A win and a draw might just be enough if Norwich don't get more than one point and Barnsley lose both their games. We still have a goal difference of seven to make up on Barnsley which might be possible if they lose two and we win one / draw one. It's looking very grim. Amesbury Saint Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 whilst it is grim we are not yet down. Big assumption first - that Saints can beat Burnley Saturday Blackpool V Forest - Balckpool need 1 point to confirm stafety. Its there last home match so hopefully they are motivated. If not they will have to go to Swansea for it. Derby need 2 points but are home against Charlton Regarding Blackpool and Derby only Norwich can catch them Plymouth need three points ( to be safe from Norwich and 1 point to be safe from us) but are away at QPR and then home against Barnsley. And we can catch them if they lose both games and we win both ours. Its a 9 goal difference we have to turn around, which is theoretically possible. Barnsley are home to Wolves. Wolves need a point to be confirmed champions. Lets hope Wolves win. Monday Norwich V Reading. Reading need a point to be certain of a play off place but by Monday they maybe ok already. Need Preston to beat Birmingham on Saturday to leave Reading with something to do. So we could go into the final day with Blackpool and Derby safe Plymouth 50 points -13 gd or worse Forest 49 points -18 or worse Barnsley 48 -15 or worse Soton 47 - 20 or better Norwich 46 -10 or worse So it would be 2 from 5 If saints win we are ok. Plus Barnsley are away at Plymouth. Plymouth would appear to be safe as we play Forest. But Plymouth could go down if they lose heavily at QPR, Forest get a point at Blackpool and lose against Barnsley and we win. Bottom line = we have a chance but have to win Saturday and hope several results go in our favour to leave us seeking a win on the final day. teamsaint Posted 23 April, 2009 Share Posted 23 April, 2009 you just never know. I think one year WBA needed 4 results to go for them on the last day and they did.(maybe the year we went down?) Can't see it happening though!
Leicestersaint Posted 23 April, 2009 Share Posted 23 April, 2009 I think the basic problem here is that Saints have to win two games in a row!

adysaint Posted 23 April, 2009 Share Posted 23 April, 2009 Can you put the Charlton fixtures back so we know what we have to do to avoid finishing bottom?

Leicestersaint Posted 27 April, 2009 Share Posted 27 April, 2009 I am afraid the sceptics were proved right and this was all a triumph of reality over hope.

Whitey Grandad Posted 27 April, 2009 Share Posted 27 April, 2009 So Forest are now safe. That makes Sunday's game a might-have-been
