saintwarwick Posted 16 April, 2009 Share Posted 16 April, 2009 Reading's form - or lack of it - is looking critical to our run in. If they beat Barnsley and Derby they'll be secure in the play offs by the time they face Norwich. So ideally we need them to beat Barnsley, but then screw up against Derby so they need a win against Norwich. On the other hand we'd like Burnley to be safe in a play off place by the time we play the, but that only happens if they beat Sheffield United and Swansea and Preston both lose. However that would mean that Reading wouldn't need a win again Norwich. So to get to a laboured point. Which is prefereable - a motivated Reading side needing a win against Norwich? Or a demotivated Burnley coasting against us? I'd probably go for a demotivated Burnley myself - safe in a play off position - since Reading are looking so hopeless at the minute I reckon Norwich will beat then at Carrow Road whatever. Reading will want to finish at minimum third or fourth for the second leg home advantage. They also still have an outside chance for automatic promotion so I reckon they will be up for beating Norwich knowing they have home advantage for their last game against Birmingham which could secure automatic promotion. Should Burnley win this weekend and Preston and Swansea lose Burnley will have qualified for a play off place so hopefully will not be up for the game against us. AlfredKo Posted 17 April, 2009 Share Posted 17 April, 2009 Why go on torturing yourselves. We are down already. A Forest win tomorrow and that's it. Doesn't matter what we do any more. You don't know the rules. If Forest and us keep on winning before the last game. We will still be only two points behind them before the last game. If we win the last game in City Gound. We will overtake them. "A Forest win tomorrow and that's it" is probably the most garbage statement I see in this forum. Wondering why don't you know the rules? It does matter if that is because you don't know how many points the teams got in the relagation battle and have no idea who are they playing for the last 3/4 games. saintwarwick Posted 17 April, 2009 Share Posted 17 April, 2009 (edited) Why go on torturing yourselves. We are down already. A Forest win tomorrow and that's it. Doesn't matter what we do any more. But Forest won't win tomorrow and with Norwich losing at least one of their remaining games with us winning all three remaining games mean we will stay up. In fact Forest can win tomorrow and the next game but once we have won all our games we overtake them, simple really Edited 17 April, 2009 by saintwarwick
JustMike Posted 18 April, 2009 Share Posted 18 April, 2009 forest will beat coventry today, i hate to say it but i think it will be us together with charlton and barnsley that go down.
saints_is_the_south Posted 18 April, 2009 Share Posted 18 April, 2009 I think Forest will stay up, they have the easiest run in and are in decent form. They'll win today for sure & draw at Blackpool at worse. You'd think that Norwich have a tough run in but Reading & Ipswich are both playing pretty ****e at the moment so they'll fancy their chances in those games. One needs a win for the play offs & the other is a derby though so you never know. Charlton on the last day won't be as easy as people think either, the Addicks aren't in bad form atm despite their almost confirmed relegation and it's always difficult facing a team who are already down. Barnsley have the toughest run in & i think they are favs along with us to go down. I think Forest will have enough so i reckon its between us, Norwich & Barnsley. Blackpool need a point to ensure they are safe If we beat Burnley by 1-0 then we will have - 20 Forest -17 so we will need to beat them by 2 clear goals. If Barnsley win 1 and lose 2 then their goal difference could be still -14 or worse. (assume 1-0 win, and 2 1-0 defeats), we will have to win by atleast 4-0 and a 3-0 in the 2 matches. when you look at their matches I think they will be safe. so they key one is Blackpool V Forest but it assumes we can win

Johnny Bognor Posted 21 April, 2009 Share Posted 21 April, 2009 Simple. Norwich, Forest and Barnsley lose this saturday and a Saints win against Burnley means that we just need to beat Forest to stay up on the last day. saints_is_the_south Posted 21 April, 2009 Share Posted 21 April, 2009 Beating Burnley is a really tough ask IMO, they looked excellent last night. The only way i see us winning is by playing like we did in the first half against Preston. IMO Forest will beat Blackpool & be safe, Barnsley should lose to Wolves and hopefully are a bit down after having a vital 3 points clutched from their grasp tonight. I think Plymouth can beat Barnsley too, but can we win 2 games? I seriously doubt it with this current crop of sh*te.

I then hope that we can go on to beat Forest... ...But if I'm honest I don't think it's gonna happen. I just hope that there's a big crowd there on Saturday and that we will actually be able to limp on to the end of the season... and then, most importantly, that a buyer will come in and save the club. I think it would be great too if we could have a decent following at Forest even if we do get relegated before then. I would love to be there myself, though, sadly I don't think it will be possible. Exactly! It's fully well possible, so we have to show some courage. Realistically we will not get anything from the Burnley game, but we can't give up without a fight.
