Saint Martini Posted 4 August, 2008 Posted 4 August, 2008 Ever since the WHU result and reports came in I've been wondering if a lot of people changed their minds about going to the Stoke game. This game has been called useless and boring from whenever it was announced but now that we apparently playing very exciting football is anyone changed their mind about going? (I won't be, which is rather logical looking at my location)
South City Si Posted 4 August, 2008 Posted 4 August, 2008 Am tempted as have only been to Celtic/Claus game this pre-season and can't afford Cardiff.
TheSaint75 Posted 4 August, 2008 Posted 4 August, 2008 As a result of the performance against WHU I will be going to see how we fare against a more direct style that Stoke will probably play. I do now believe we could play our way to some success with a zippy style of footy, however we don't have the height to compete with the high balls especially from corners!

Its ok based on the pre season games I've been to this season scoring from corners won't be happening this season! As for going I'm in the same mind as yourself I think if we perform well against Stoke that will be grounds for optimism :-) Saying that we did well against Stoke both games last season with arguably the worst Saints team in the last 10 years lol
Loyal Saint Posted 4 August, 2008 Posted 4 August, 2008 I am. Will be interested to see if any of our 'bigger names' who weren't picked on Friday are up for fighting for their place
OldNick Posted 4 August, 2008 Posted 4 August, 2008 on thurs we had onloy sold about 4k tickets!!!!!!
Saint Mikey Posted 4 August, 2008 Posted 4 August, 2008 on thurs we had onloy sold about 4k tickets!!!!!! What do the club expect? Charging £15 for two friendlies sandwiched close together. It was a tenner to see Lazio last season!
miserableoldgit Posted 4 August, 2008 Posted 4 August, 2008 What do the club expect? Charging £15 for two friendlies sandwiched close together. It was a tenner to see Lazio last season! TBF if you bought a ticket for WHU you could buy a ticket for Stoke for half price which works out at £11.25p a game. Not a lot cheaper but it`s something. I will be there with my £7.50p ticket!
stevegrant Posted 4 August, 2008 Posted 4 August, 2008 I won't be there, but that's purely because I won't be home from work in time. I do also think we've had at least one too many home friendlies this summer, especially given that the other two were against relatively prestigious opposition. I can't say I'm surprised at the low take-up for tomorrow's game on that basis, especially at £15 a pop.
This Charming Man Posted 4 August, 2008 Posted 4 August, 2008 I wouldn't go even if the club were paying me £15 to attend. Stoke are the worst footballing team in the history of football, they suck the life out of every game they're involved with.
JustMike Posted 4 August, 2008 Posted 4 August, 2008 im going, very interested to see if the WHU came was a one off. Hope its a similar team.
TheSaint75 Posted 4 August, 2008 Posted 4 August, 2008 (edited) I do think Stoke will be more of a real test CCC style than WHU, for that reason alone I'm going, normally as mentioned it is a game to avoid but if the lads can perform against the bullying style of shi77y Stoke it will be more cause for optimism I haven't renewed my ST yet so this game could decide it for me Edited 4 August, 2008 by TheSaint75
Dr Octopus Posted 4 August, 2008 Posted 4 August, 2008 just got 4 tickets Kingsland centre unreserved seating only They must be expecting a big turn out!
wheels Posted 4 August, 2008 Posted 4 August, 2008 just got 4 ti**ets Kingsland centre unreserved seating only They must be expecting a big turn out! They're not!!! http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/?page_id=10357 Only the Kingsland and Family enclosure will be used!! The club obviously see it as an important fixture then :con**sed:
Charlie Wayman Posted 4 August, 2008 Posted 4 August, 2008 Only the Kingsland stand will be open according to the Ticket Office and seating is free, i.e. you can sit where you like. Worth watching Stoke get stoked for a fiver if you watched Hammers get hammered (almost).
derry Posted 4 August, 2008 Posted 4 August, 2008 I'll be there, I think that the young team will only play 45 mins, then last years failures can put their case.
Michelle Posted 4 August, 2008 Posted 4 August, 2008 Didn't go to West Ham, not going to Stoke - will be at Woking instead.
Dogs Posted 4 August, 2008 Posted 4 August, 2008 im going, very interested to see if the WHU came was a one off. Hope its a similar team. Me too!
Bailey Posted 4 August, 2008 Posted 4 August, 2008 Surely Poortvliet won't go with the same 11 that started against West Ham? 2 games in 4 days is asking a bit much considering it all starts for real this Saturday. I wouldn't be surprised to see a totally different 11 line up against Stoke.
Saint Martini Posted 4 August, 2008 Author Posted 4 August, 2008 Didn't go to West Ham, not going to Stoke - will be at Woking instead. Ah, you want to see the highwage players.
Michelle Posted 4 August, 2008 Posted 4 August, 2008 Ah, you want to see the highwage players. Maybe! Or maybe I just don't want to go to SMS at the moment.
saint lard Posted 5 August, 2008 Posted 5 August, 2008 According to the Echo,Saints will start with the same 11 that played against West Ham,then change it all around for the second half.
Master Bates Posted 5 August, 2008 Posted 5 August, 2008 http://www.thisishampshire.net/sport/saints/display.var.2417391.0.jan_will_mix_it_up_against_stoke.php http://www.thisishampshire.net/sport/saints/display.var.2417388.0.acid_test_for_saints.php COYR's!
Dicko Posted 5 August, 2008 Posted 5 August, 2008 Can anybody confirm that it's a 7.45 kick off? Many of the bookmakers have it down as 3pm
luke8588 Posted 5 August, 2008 Posted 5 August, 2008 Bit irrelevant but heres a video I recently uploaded onto youtube! The quality isn't great but I don't think that should matter to anyone lol!! COYR!!!
SaintRichmond Posted 5 August, 2008 Posted 5 August, 2008 Stoke will be pretty much like the CCC Teams that we will come up against on a weekly basis. No finnesse, brick built centre backs, no frills, brute force etc. IF our FOOTBALL can overcome that, then I will think we are in with a shout this season. But all too often in the past have we seen any attempt at playing Football brushed aside by the "no nonsense" approach that DOES (unfortunately) seem to get results in the CCC Ironically, Poortvliet's method of play would have been ideal if we were still in the Prem, but not in the "last man standing" CCC My main worry, as I've mentioned before, is that we are TOO LIGHTWEIGHT up front. Goals win Games, but I can't see us scoring many in the League
saintkiptanui Posted 5 August, 2008 Posted 5 August, 2008 I have placed £20 on saints to win at 9/5, so I fully expect us to get hammered.
saint16 Posted 5 August, 2008 Posted 5 August, 2008 i wont be there but will be at the cardiff game, coyr
Andy_Porter Posted 5 August, 2008 Posted 5 August, 2008 Not bothered about going tbh, too expensive for a tinpot firendly.
SaintDonkey Posted 5 August, 2008 Posted 5 August, 2008 I'm going if I can get off work in time - but since 'in time' means 'an hour early' that might not be possible. Any know if they'll be commentery avaiable online anywhere?
redandwhitey Posted 5 August, 2008 Posted 5 August, 2008 I have a spare ticket as I can't get there, any one locksheath way make use of it ?
Johnny Shearer Posted 5 August, 2008 Posted 5 August, 2008 I want to go but none nobody I know does! Might just pop along anyhows.
saintrich Posted 5 August, 2008 Posted 5 August, 2008 i wont be there but will be at the cardiff game, coyr not bothered about going tbh, too expensive for a tinpot firendly. +1.
Disco Posted 5 August, 2008 Posted 5 August, 2008 I am, plus i saw 4 stofe fans in chievely services 2day!!
Wes Tender Posted 5 August, 2008 Posted 5 August, 2008 Echoing another post, is there live commentary anywhere? Having taken my son to the West Ham match, wifey says I ought to sit this one out. I agree though that this is match will better reflect our current standing than the West Ham game.
Saint Matty 76 Posted 5 August, 2008 Posted 5 August, 2008 I'm going, will be good to see how two average championship sides do, one being the premiership and one being tipped to get relegated from the CCC.
