The Human Centipede.....

Gross and pretty sick in parts.

However,quite original.

If you like a horror movie, enjoy.

Just don't watch on a full stomach......

Lol at that particular website, they keep moving to different longer domain names every so often, lol at the fact that everytime they shut one down one gets brought back up.

Anyways

Watched 2 films the past couple of days

Clash of the titans

This was sh*te, they could have done so much with what is the immense potential of greek mythology and just seemed to rush it all from start to finish, uninspiring fight scenes, not the best story of all time. Should have done so much better.

5/10

Date Night

I was actually pleasantly surprised watching this, had a few laughs, a decentish storyline, Steve Carrell is actually turning into one of my favourite comedy actors.

Worth a watch IMO

Inception, very over hyped, just like Nolans last batman film, very dull in most places, at the end I didnt give a crap about what happened to any of the characters, massive plot holes all over the place, one decent scene where a corridor moves and the last scene in the snow is like something from an old james bond film.

Went to see Leaving (or Partir to give it it's French title) at Harbour Lights last night.

Subtitled French film starring Kristen Scott Thomas who plays the bored housewife who starts a fling with a builder which leads to the ultimate destruction of her marriage with a brutal ending.

Fairly predictable plot but superbly acted throughout by all.

6/10, but not as good as I've Loved You So Long....

Close Encounters on tv - Nice, but I wish directors would stop messing around with their original work by adding their 'Special Edition Cut' nonsense...special for who? Their wallets! Arf! Arf!

Despicable Me - 5/10 - These animations need to start doing more to keep the accompanying adults more amused. there have been great ones in the past, this is very average.

Toy Story 3 - 6/9 - Better, but not as good as the originals.

Saw Inception earlier, bloody loved it. One of the few very hyped films that I came out of thinking "Yeah, that was worth the hype". Very entertaining, good acting, Marion Cotillard is f*cking gorgeous, good direction and screenwriting.

9/10

Oh, and i'm off to see Toy Story 3 on Friday, cannot wait!

Its another review for Inception (aka Eternal Sunshine of the Spy of Who Loved Me), it’s so rare to see an action film that treats its audiences as adults, and to hear the audience give an astonished gasp at the end of the final shot and then applaud and whoop during the credits (we’re not American for christy’s sake).

Its very good stuff, a bit too much cgi for my liking but some of the effects were great – the zero gravity fight is just mind-blowing. It reminded me of Shutter Island, Synecdoche New York and eXistenZ, all of which are great, and to its credit, didn’t feel like a Matrix knock off.

Cue for Inception 2 ?

Nope, the guys involved have said there won't be a sequel. That's a good thing imo, I guess we were left to come up with our own ending with the last shot. When the camera panned over, there was an audible intake of breath from the audience (and much cursing when it ended)!

Went to see Inception yesterday.

Can't be arsed to write a full review so I'll be brief.

Good concept, poorly executed. Unlikable characters and a predictable ending. The idea would have worked better as an independent film rather than a hollywood blockbuster. Some impressive visual treats but overall unsatisfying.

6/10.

A Day of Violence

Film made by local boy Darren Ward in his spare time over the last few years and filmed mostly around Southampton. It is pretty low budget and some of the acting is less than perfect but on the whole, I can thoroughly recommend it. Watch it with your mates after a few beers and you will love it.

Trailer here -

(REALLY NOT SAFE FOR WORK!!!)

Available to buy at Amazon and Play online. Also believe you can pick it up at Asda and HMV. Lots of reviews of the film online including this http://www.fangoria.com/index.php?id=1683%3Aa-day-of-violence-dvd-review&option=com_content&catid=58%3Advd-blu-ray-reviews&Itemid=182

Perhaps the film is worthy of its own thread considering how local it is if someone could do the honours...

I also watched the above film recently. the main actor was my girlfriends lecturer at Solent Uni, and a mate of mine gets killed at the end. i wouldve been killed in the same scene too, but couldnt get out of proir engagements.

some great gore if you like that kind of thing, some debatable dialogue and acting though. predictable story too, but it is worth a watch, if only to play spot the location.

Am half way through re-watching the original series of The Fall & Rise of Reginald Perrin. Great.

I didn't get where I am today without being able to remember the old catch-lines. I'm not really a review person but even 24 years on it is such a wonderful inciteful p*ss take on any form of Corporate Life.

The GF has found some of the accents hard to fathom but still follows the gags and is loving it as much as I am.

And boy, how many people have made zillions selling Grot since he came up with the idea.

5 quid in an HMV sale ages ago and had never taken them out until this week.

Wonderful writing and wonderful acting by Rossiter.

Super

The Karate Kid

Although I still maintain that this should have been called The Kung-Fu Kid, I have to admit its not as bad as I thought it would be. Jackie Chan does well in a serious western role but Smith's kid is annoying but the fights seemed brutal for the kids!

I can see a couple of sequels though, one where Jackie Chan goes to America (the opposite to Karate Kid II) and then the third following the orignal Karate Kid III story closely.

But did you enjoy the film?

No idea - trust me the one thing down here you don't do is to go watch a movie in a cinema full of young Arab kids. 1) You don't get to hear anything and 2) One's blood pressure simply can't take it. Some of the little sh1ts have taken to letting Pythons loose in busy cinemas, smoking hash, calling the cops and getting everyone who inhaled deprted after a 4 year jail term.

Waiting to get to Bangkok for NYE will get the DVD then

Meanwhile

Watched District 13 : Ultimatum on telly tonight. Stupidly I had thought it was some low budget sequel to the District 9 movie (yeah I know)

Anyway I hate the French and a French movie?

I missed the first half of the notlob game. Apparently it is a sequel but we really never noticed, it just dropped straight into an inner city gang war cops v bad guys movie with cartoon character conspiracies and some superb free running chase sequences.

It had a daft edge to it with some bits making us laugh (probably not intentionally), the fight scenes made you think back to how Indiana Jones would have solved most of them by getting his pistol out and shooting the big bad tough guys but it was a really enjoyable caper.

It apparently made US$36,039 in the US. lolage at that as well. By no means a quality script but it was a damned good enjoyable eveing without blood and guts and legs flying around. (Which was last night's movie - Black Hawk Down which IS a quality movie on every scale)

I watched that the other day too, thought it was pretty good. Not as good as the first film though, of which i'm a massive fan (it's called District 13 or Banlieue 13 to give it the proper title..). I recommend the first one actually, there are some very good fight and parkour scenes. David Belle, who plays Leito in both films, is a real life parkour enthusiast and stuntperson, he does everything that you see in both films. Some of it is pretty mind blowing!

Scott Pilgrim vs The World

Just come back from seeing this, absolutely loved it! Edgar Wright is a f*cking genius, everything about the film was amazing. It's absolutely chock full of references, I was literally sitting there and every other line of dialogue something would pop up in my head saying "Hey, I know that!". Finally, a film that properly caters to the fan-boys without being patronising about it. Well worth the admission price imo.

However, a word of warning: Don't watch this film unless you're..

- A Michael Cera fan

- A video game nerd

- A comic book nerd

- Prepared to let a whole load of video game/comic book references go straight over your head

- All of the above.

After reading a book on Richard Burton, Richard Harris and Oliver Reed I deceided to re-watch some of there films.

The Cassandra Crossing (Harris) An absolute bore and that scene with Ann Turkel singing makes me want to puncture my own ear drums with an ice pick! 2/10

Cromwell (Harris) Much better and Alec Guinness is excellent as Charles I. 6/10

Juggernaut (Harris) The only two things that are good about this is the fact that the opening was filmed at Southampton docks, and Roy Kinnear's performance. 5/10

Where Eagles Dare (Burton) Eastwood and Burton in the same film, lovely! One of my favourite films of all time, and apparently Alastair Mclean laid Burton out with one punch at the post production party!!! 10/10

The Medusa Touch (Burton) A great film that I'm surprised hasn't been touted for a remake. 8/10

The Three Musketeers (Reed) Another all time classic with an all star cast, with Reed cast perfectly as the boozing, brawling Athos. 9/10

Hoping to watch some more soon, like The Wild Geese and The Desert Rats.

You'll probably not believe this, but I've just finished watching The Godfather trilogy, for the first time ever. Before, I've not so much as spent as 30 seconds viewing any of it. The reason I've put it off all these years is because, by all reports, it portrays Italians as knife/gun wielding killers, which have become a sort of general stereotype. I remember my ex-wife telling me that her mother said I'd be a knife carrier, when she told her she'd met me. As if..! But back to the films...

Have to say, that as far as culture and Italian mannerisms are concerned, the films hit the feeling right on the button. Italians [OK, Sicilians in this case] are generally demonstrative of their emotions. It's their way. It was certainly my father's way, and his brothers, and although I don't remember my Italian grandfather well, I can see him in Vito Corleone, and the principle older characters. It was almost spooky, at times..! So as far as getting the feel right, I'd say 10/10 for all three films. As I get older, I'm strangely drawn to the architecture and culture of Italy, perhaps due to the 50% Italian in my genes. I have wondered whether this is somehow "hard-wired-in", as Chomsky would have put it. So these films must have got something right for bringing it to the fore, despite their subject matter.

As far as that is concerned, it isn't something that appeals to me, though it was compelling, also. So 9/10 for the original, and 8/10 for the sequels.

Scott Pilgrim vs The World - 2/10.

And I'm nerdish. So no-one can say I didn't get the references or 'humour'. Dreadful film. Michael Cera has to be one of the most wooden actors I've ever seen. I don't care if it's his 'style'. It DIRELY needed an better editor. Only thing that was good about the film was the visual style.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs - 8/10

Now, this is how you make a film. Watched on Blu-ray the other night, the animation is wonderfully designed, haven't got 'A-list' names providing the voices, they have got people who can actually provide good voices. The jokes are wonderful. Really, really worth a watch.

Four Lions

I'm a massive Chris Morris fan, so I was really excited to see this film as I missed it first time round in the cinema. It's been bashed quite a lot by critics and internet reviewers, but I loved it. The characters were fantastic, every scene was hilarious and the ending, despite being quite sad, was also f*cking hilarious. Haven't laughed so much at a film in absolutely ages. I will say that if you're easily offended on the subject of terrorism, you probably wouldn't find it as funny as I did, but the film is hardly going out and poking fun at the victims of terrorism, it's obvious that Morris et al have thought long and hard about how to approach the subject matter. Just think of it as 'Laurel and Hardy' doing 'Paradise Now'.

The Other Guys

It was okay, not as good as I was expecting given the massive box office takings and generally good reviews, but not as bad as it could have been. Mark Wahlberg is a f*cking diabolical 'actor' though, he's a (very) poor man's Tom Cruise. Some good laughs in it though, particularly in the bits with Sam Jackson and The Rock in!

Winter's Bone

This film won best film at the Sundance Film Festival so I thought I would give it a go. It's a bleak story about a 17-year-old girl who is threatened with losing her house after her father put it up as security for bail and doesn't show up for court, so she sets off to try and find him.

The lead role is very well portrayed by Jennifer Lawrence and although slow-paced it is very tense and keeps you guessing what's actually going on. It is all inferred and makes you think about it rather than handing you the plot on a plate, and I like that quality in films.

The review promised a huge surprise twist which never really appears so I was a little disappointed, but then if I had never read that review then I wouldn't have been expecting anything at the end and would have enjoyed the film all the same.

Not everyone's cup of tea I guess. Looking on rottentomates.com, the Daily Mirror critic said that 'movies don't come much duller than this', but I rather suspect he completely missed the point and that's probably why he works for the Mirror and not a proper newspaper.

Iron man 2. 6/10

Micky Rourke was good, if not a bit stereotypilcal, as Whiplash.

RDJ is having a blast as Ironman. Didnt like the part of Warmachine though.

Not as good as the first, but its moving foward nicely to the avengers. Nice nod and wink to cap America also.

The Road 7.6/10.1 - Gutwrenchingly depressing, bleak and nightmarish but thoroughly enticing at the same time. Filmed and acted superbly well. Not many other post-apocalyptic films manage to capture the essence of hopelessness this one does. Oh, apart from 2012... ;)

Unstoppable 6.6/9.9 - Runaway train with toxic materials. Need to stop it. Denzel Washington.

In the most part, surprisingly good fun and not marred by OTT silly Hollywood villains, CGI or absurd twists that could quite easily have been present. A bit like a better acted and more subtle Speed...but with trains.
