Saint in Paradise Posted 8 March, 2009 Posted 8 March, 2009 I went to a museum on Friday, one farm tractor looked a bit worse for wear so I thought it must be quite old and must have been made in the 1930s. Wrong, it was 2 years younger than me I also saw a couple of tractors which had been built in Southampton before the factory moved to Lincolshire, I never knew tractors were built in Southampton.
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 8 March, 2009 Posted 8 March, 2009 I've waited years for a tractor thread Ipswich forum?

St Landrew Posted 8 March, 2009 Posted 8 March, 2009 At a guess, Aotearoa... Kia Ora, DSM. I know he lives in NZ, and as I know the geography fairly well, having also lived there, I just happened to wonder where the museum was specifically..!

Neither did I.Please don't leave us in suspense without telling us the manufacturer. What is the favourite tractror on the forum ? Maybe we could have a poll.(it might even turn out to be a "straw poll"). John Deere gets my vote.
benjii Posted 8 March, 2009 Posted 8 March, 2009 My mates who have been to New Zealand all went bungee jumping and white water rafting and stuff like that. How I laughed when they realised they'd overlooked the tractor museum.
Gingeletiss Posted 8 March, 2009 Posted 8 March, 2009 This thread has a lot of pulling power.......you just have to plough right in.
hamster Posted 8 March, 2009 Posted 8 March, 2009 I cannot add anything to this thread as I am not an expert in this field.
hamster Posted 8 March, 2009 Posted 8 March, 2009 I have just discovered that early flying boats built in Southampton used tractor engines. FACT
saint boggy Posted 8 March, 2009 Posted 8 March, 2009 didn't know they were manufactured in Southampton but have often seen transporter lorries full up with tractors heading for the docks.FACT.....didn't know there were that many fields in the dockland area, but still! HTH xx
Saint in Paradise Posted 8 March, 2009 Author Posted 8 March, 2009 The museum was http://www.tawhitimuseum.co.nz/ in the Taranaki region, the name of the tractors maker was Allis-Chalmers a USA company. I suspect they were just assembled rather than built from scratch ?
Mole Posted 8 March, 2009 Posted 8 March, 2009 You know you're getting old when you think back to your first car and you think it'd be a classic if you still had it.
Deppo Posted 8 March, 2009 Posted 8 March, 2009 Or if you spend all day every day whinging on an internet forum.
