thesaint sfc Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carpal_tunnel_syndrome#Symptoms Anyone had it? I think I've got it and it really is so painful and uncomfortable.
St Landrew Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 Since 1989 [i remember it well] I've had less than 100% sensation in my left-hand little finger. I got it from holding a phone to my ear all day/every day for about a month, while working. I reckon it was nerve damage from having my elbow continually perched on the table in front of me. It used to affect the ring finger next to it, but not now. Some days are great, and occasionally I get a bad one. Peculiarly, it doesn't stop the finger from being useful, as in helping to play the odd guitar chord. But it does feel bloody odd at times, and can be painful too with the pins and needles.
Gingeletiss Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 I was always told....... Bend you wrist until a little lump appears, then whack it really hard, problem solved. Never tried it;)
bridge too far Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 I was always told....... Bend you wrist until a little lump appears, then whack it really hard, problem solved. Never tried it;) That's the treatment for ganglions, isn't it? The REALLY old wives' tale was that you should whack it with a bible
St Landrew Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 That's the treatment for ganglions, isn't it? The REALLY old wives' tale was that you should whack it with a bible Completely unknown to me, that one. Did you invent it BTF..?
bridge too far Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 Completely unknown to me, that one. Did you invent it BTF..? I'm not THAT old a wife StL [-X Years ago my daughter had a ganglion on her wrist. We had to wait months for an orthopaedic consultation and, whilst we were waiting, a few people told us of this 'cure'. My daughter wouldn't let me do it though (not that I have ever kept a bible in the house anyway). Eventually her Outpatient appointment arrived but, miraculously, the ganglion disappeared a couple of days before, so we cancelled and the ganglion never reappeared! I still reckon she found a bible somewhere herself.......
scott_saints Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 I wake up from it about 3 times a week. Bl00dy weird feeling it is n' all!! Also get it quite often when playing xbox etc- Anything that my elbows or wrists are bent for a fair amount of time. Apparently it gets worst over time....yay!

I believe that this was the origin of the saying 'One off the wrist'.
saint_stevo Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 yes i know this is the lounge, but if scotteh and tsfc have it, is it attributed to w*nking?
saint_stevo Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 That's the treatment for ganglions, isn't it? The REALLY old wives' tale was that you should whack it with a bible i thought that was if you had a goiter (sp)

bridge too far Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 i thought that was if you had a goiter (sp) Bloody hell, that would sting a bit! A goitre is a thyroid swelling, in the neck.
JohnnyFartPants Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 My mum had carpal tunnel problems and had both wrists operated on and is now in much better shape. The op does tend to do the business, even if you are pov scum and have to use the depleted NHS service. (just for you BTF xx)

JohnnyFartPants Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 That's not a very nice thing to say about your mother, now. You don't know her.
hamster Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carpal_tunnel_syndrome#Symptoms Anyone had it? I think I've got it and it really is so painful and uncomfortable. If you have the slightest inkling that it may have been caused by a previous job, check the internet for claimants. I am pretty sure that my ex coal miner bil clawed a few quid back from Maggie due to it. I could be wrong, but he definitely did a claim for 'white finger'.
bridge too far Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 You don't know her. Oh I see - and yet you've turned out to be such a nice boy xx

Don't people who operate pneumatic road drills suffer from that too?
JohnnyFartPants Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 Oh I see - and yet you've turned out to be such a nice boy xx Thank you. So have you.
hamster Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 Don't people who operate pneumatic road drills suffer from that too? I believe so b, but not necessarily from operatinmg them. I think it can be caught be merely leaning on one for long periods. That would also back up someone's earlier calim that it has a link to ****ing, as all of the ones that I have ever seen are all lazy ******s.
JohnnyFartPants Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 Don't people who operate pneumatic road drills suffer from that too? Pnematic tools have less chance of sparking so were used a lot by miners.
thesaint sfc Posted 5 March, 2009 Author Posted 5 March, 2009 yes i know this is the lounge, but if scotteh and tsfc have it, is it attributed to w*nking? Doubt it. I don't **** with him very often. I do a lot of texting, so that could be it. If the pain continues I'll have to have the op Rather get it dealt with now rather than later.

Could it be Repetitive Strain Injury then? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Repetitive_strain_injury Or tendonitis http://orthopedics.about.com/cs/sportsmedicine/a/tendonitis.htm Edited 5 March, 2009 by bridge too far
JohnnyFartPants Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 Could it be Repetitive Strain Injury then? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Repetitive_strain_injury Can't that just be anything though? Couldn't you have carpal tunnel caused by a RSI?

And what happens if you leave the XBox playing alone for about a month..?
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 Completely unknown to me, that one. Did you invent it BTF..? Certainly a treatment which was explained to me by my consultant when being treated for Carpal Tunnel syndrome. Although he did not advocate it.
