saintsdan Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 And how exactly did Norwich get 17 or more points then?? No idea, as I didn't save my predictions but having had another look, their fixtures include: Blackpool, Plymouth, Wednesday, Watford, Ipswich and Charlton. All of which are winnable, could concievably get close to that total.

Gingeletiss Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 Two away games, are of great importance........Blackpool and Notts Forest, these are immense, and must be won. IMVHO.
Big Bad Bob Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 Two away games, are of great importance........Blackpool and Notts Forest, these are immense, and must be won. IMVHO. Stange, I had us drawing both of those, and we still survive by 7 points!!
Gingeletiss Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 Lol......I went with my heart, and won them both, ending up on 59.
John B Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 Stange, I had us drawing both of those, and we still survive by 7 points!! I had them as draws too and we still stayed up
Big Bad Bob Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 Lol......I went with my heart, and won them both, ending up on 59. Far far too optimistic, this is Saints we are talking about you know... Isn't this topic getting dangerously back on topic??
sperm_john Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 i got us finishing 19th, on 53 points and the cut off being 50 points the table looking like this; Birmingham 92 Wolves 84 Reading 80 Cardiff 80 (relying on them to do us a few favours over the next few weeks) Sheff utd 75 Bristol city 72 Burnley 69 Derby finishign eigth?!?!? 67 Ipswich 66 Plymouth finishing tenth?!? on 65 Swansea - 64 Preston -63 QPR - 61 Sheff wed - 61 Cov - 59 Barnsley - 57 Palace - 56 Nottm f - 54 SAINTS - 53 blackpool - 52 doncaster - 50 -------------------- norwich - 48 watford - 40 charlton - 40 hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
norwaysaint Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 I've only written out our end of the table. 1. Southampton 70 2. Wolves 70 3. Birmingham 69 4. Preston 66 5. Swansea 65 6. Sheff Utd 65 Well, strictly speaking it is possible.
St Landrew Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 i got us finishing 19th, on 53 points and the cut off being 50 points the table looking like this; Birmingham 92 Wolves 84 Reading 80 Cardiff 80 (relying on them to do us a few favours over the next few weeks) Sheff utd 75 Bristol city 72 Burnley 69 Derby finishign eigth?!?!? 67 Ipswich 66 Plymouth finishing tenth?!? on 65 Swansea - 64 Preston -63 QPR - 61 Sheff wed - 61 Cov - 59 Barnsley - 57 Palace - 56 Nottm f - 54 SAINTS - 53 blackpool - 52 doncaster - 50 -------------------- norwich - 48 watford - 40 charlton - 40 hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm So one of the form teams of the Championship [Doncaster Rovers], currently lying mid-table, on 46 points, are going to finish below Saints. Yeah, that's some realistic research. What did you do, flip a coin or something..?
saintjay77 Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 LOL my rose tinted glasses put us in 11th on 63 points. Still 10 points out of the plsay offs thougho so im still gutted lol Barnsley Norwich Charlton to go down though.
Cunning Stunt Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 I have it as Norwich 53 Saints 51 Plymouth 50 Blackpool 45 charlton 36 Both Plymouth and Saints on the GD of -17
Panda Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 Wow - we finish 12th on 62 points! Charlton, Norwich and Blackpool go down. We miss the play offs by just 16 points. Shame the games won't ALL finish as I predicted though...
Big Bad Bob Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 I have it as Norwich 53 Saints 51 Plymouth 50 Blackpool 45 charlton 36 Both Plymouth and Saints on the GD of -17 I had Saints on 51pts too, but in 18th place!! It all depends on how well the other 'relegation rivals' do I guess. Most people have us getting between 50 & 55 points!!
norwaysaint Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 None of you have any faith, we can still come first.
Trader Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 Plymouth 52 Watford 50 SAINTS 50 Barnsley 49 Forest 48 Blackpool 44 Norwich 43 Charlton 38 Bottom 8 the way I see it. Wolves & Reading to go up, Brum, Cardiff, Sheff U & Burnley playoffs.
saintjay77 Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 LOL I cant get it any bigger!!!!! incoming inuendo? lol
St Landrew Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 I have us relegating - third from bottom. Interesting. I've based my prediction on our form, with a huge dose of realism added. I honestly think we might have a chance now, so explain how you have us being relegated, as there are plenty of teams who seem to be willing to commit suicide and take that 3rd spot.
Pancake Posted 5 March, 2009 Author Posted 5 March, 2009 LOL I cant get it any bigger!!!!! incoming inuendo? lol
Gingeletiss Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 LOL I cant get it any bigger!!!!! incoming inuendo? lol 63............lol...........I thought I was being generous with 59. As for size, don't worry, it's said, that it doesn't matter, so in your case that should be a massive relief.....lol
saintstr1 Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 Amazing how the majority have us staying up with points to spare. Now I know we are desperate for this to be correct but lets remember how much difference there is between playing football on paper as opposed to the real thing on the grass. It does look promising though. Good Game...... Good Game
krissyboy31 Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 I had us in 15th place on 55 points -15 GD (9 pts clear). Blackpool, Norwich and Charlton to go down with Brum Champions and Reading Runners-up, going up.
saintjay77 Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 63............lol...........I thought I was being generous with 59. As for size, don't worry, it's said, that it doesn't matter, so in your case that should be a massive relief.....lol LOL I posted my results earlier and laughed at how rose tinted my glasses were but they must have been magnifying glasses when I tried to load up the table lol I was pretty shocked for us to win 3 in a row so if we get anywhere near 63 points ill prolly knock myself out when i fall over lol
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 Good fun but I hope you lot realise the odds for accurately predicting this many football results must be astronomical - we should come back to this in May and see if anybody was even close to getting it right .
saintjay77 Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 Good fun but I hope you lot realise the odds for accurately predicting this many football results must be astronomical - we should come back to this in May and see if anybody was even close to getting it right . Would be a safer bet to put money on no-one being close lol
Window Cleaner Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 I see us far further up than we will actually be so obviously I'm not factoring in the other relegation candidates' results correctly although I have been conservative with our own.
Big Bad Bob Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 Good fun but I hope you lot realise the odds for accurately predicting this many football results must be astronomical - we should come back to this in May and see if anybody was even close to getting it right . No really, and I was hoping to become a gadzillionaire on the back of betting on all my predictions!!
oejwells Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 if all othyer results are draws and all ours are wins then we finish 4th. Also i did it honestly in the prem and saw pompey go down on the last day of the season.
SaintRobbie Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 Those of you who have us surviving easily when you did the predictions - did you take into account the rise in form of those around us too?
cambsaint Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 The one thing that seems certain is that to survive we need at least 50 points, but 55 should be completely safe. If we remain playing as we are then both are possible. The thing that worries me are key injuries or bans. It is essential for all our players to be very self-disciplined and not pick up needless cards.
Saintandy666 Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 Ahhhhhh, it must be getting towards the end of the season... the bbc predictor thread has appeared. I can't be arsed to do it right now but I reckon it'll be close either 1 point relegated or 1 point staying up. I could be wrong, but we shall see.
Saint_Mabes Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 Here's mine...didn't look at it until the end - more exciting that way! 16 Plymouth 53 17 Watford 52 18 Derby 51 19 Notts Forest 51 20 Southampton 49 21 Norwich 47 22 Barnsley 47 23 Blackpool 43 24 Charlton 36 May have been a bit unkind to Barnsley and Blackpool as they are kind of the 'forgetable' teams IMO
St Landrew Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 Those of you who have us surviving easily when you did the predictions - did you take into account the rise in form of those around us too? Yes, and the whole bottom section are improving in various degrees. If Saints hadn't got a move on, we could easily have been bottom. But there a few teams that have not responded as well as others. Norwich and Charlton are obvious examples. But Blackpool and Barnsley are amongst others. The key movers were Notts Forest and Doncaster Rovers, who picked up their petticoats and skipped away a few weeks back, although Forest have since failed and had to go again. The 3 wins in 3 games mean that Saints are obviously the best at the very bottom, and so if they can maintain half that form, throughout the rest of the games, they should survive. The question is... will they..? Here's a link to current form. As I said in another thread, I'll have a glass of what they're taking at Donny, at present: http://www.4thegame.com/statistics/championship/tables/currentform.html
St Chalet Posted 5 March, 2009 Posted 5 March, 2009 I have us with 52 points. Assuming losses at Birmingham, Wolves and our traditional bogey team Watford.
Minsk Posted 6 March, 2009 Posted 6 March, 2009 Trying to be as realistic and fair as possible, I get a bottom 8 of: 17 Plymouth 52 18 C Palace 51 19 Saints 51 20 Watford 49 21 B'pool 47 22 Barnsley 47 23 Norwich 42 24 Charlton 37 I would be VERY happy with this, especially as I predicted us to finish 18th at the beginning of the season.
Big Bad Bob Posted 6 March, 2009 Posted 6 March, 2009 I have us relegating - third from bottom. On what points then St Robbie?? Where's your table?? Those of you who have us surviving easily when you did the predictions - did you take into account the rise in form of those around us too? Aye, and I think you may have bigged their rise up just a little too much whilst downing ours!! The reality is probably somewhere in between. Tell you what take a look at what I've predicted for the rest of our games and give me your thoughts!!
teamsaint Posted 6 March, 2009 Posted 6 March, 2009 like last season. I think someone will go down with over 50 points. Means we probably need 16 from the next ten games to be safe before the last day.
brightspark Posted 7 March, 2009 Posted 7 March, 2009 Plymouth - 51 Barnsley - 49 Southampton - 48 Notts Forest - 47 BLACKPOOL - 45 NORWICH - 44 CHARLTON - 44 Birmingham 2-1 Saints Saints 1-1 Derby Saints 1-2 QPR Blackpool 2-2 Saints Saints 1-0 Charlton Watford 2-1 Saints Wolves 1-1 Saints Saints 1-1 Palace Sheff Wed 3-0 Saints Saints 1-0 Burnley Notts Forest 2-2 Saints 2 wins, 5 draws, 4 defeats and we stay up!!! may have been a bit harsh on us, as well as norwich and blackpool looking back at it... but im surprised with those results I had us safe (reading 1st, sheff utd 2nd, brum 3rd, wolves 4th, cardiff 5th, bristol 6th)
LostBoys Posted 7 March, 2009 Posted 7 March, 2009 Being totally realistic I think we will end up with 52 points and that should just be enough to keep us up - unlike Leicester last season. Anything higher than that should see us definately safe. Before the three wins I though 6 wins would see us safe but with some of the recent results we may need 7 or even 8 i.e. 4 or 5 more.
Professor Posted 7 March, 2009 Posted 7 March, 2009 Those of you who have us surviving easily when you did the predictions - did you take into account the rise in form of those around us too? And did you knock off the 10 points deducted for going into administration.....
TijuanaTim Posted 7 March, 2009 Posted 7 March, 2009 14th on 54 points, can't help but think we're predicting everyone focusing on form in the last few games though....surely even Charlton, Blackpool and Norwich (who look like the most likely drop 3) cannot continue to play so poorly??? Runs and declines will change all our best meant guesses.
St Landrew Posted 7 March, 2009 Posted 7 March, 2009 In the BBC Predictor I had Saints losing today at Brum, and still managing to survive the drop reasonably well. I must admit, it probably had just as much to do with other teams failings, as our good play. Although, of course you can't guarantee their form.
GeckoSaint Posted 9 March, 2009 Posted 9 March, 2009 ...and I was being realistic on results. Was quite surprised to see how the table ended up as I still think it will go down to the last day. Also interesting to see Reading top considering their patchy form.
DaveyR Posted 9 March, 2009 Posted 9 March, 2009 21st with 48 points. Norwich, Barnsley and Charlton to go down
dubsaint Posted 9 March, 2009 Posted 9 March, 2009 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_1/predictor/default.stm I know there have been discussions on other threads but I fancied having this in its own so we can see what we all think. After filling it all out, this is what I came out with: What do you get for the final table of the season? Hi, Did my predictions last night and believe it not came up with the same result as you twice, but maybe my heart was ruling my head, I would just be happy to stay up......Big game tomorrow night.
