benjii Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 In my opinion this guy is just as important to us as Saga. Wotte is starting to make Poortie's reign look utterly inept, however, he has had the benefit of Saiejs in the team. So, if JPS was signed at Poortie's behest then fair-play to Jan - at least he left us with something.
Colinjb Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 Jan was always out of his depth, seriously, what was his appointment all about!? I'm sure 'The Snake' will have known about Saeijs anyway, I suspect it was Wotte who wanted him.

Greenridge Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 ... I suspect it was Wotte who wanted him. I think there was an article that attributed the acquisition of Saeijs to Wotte
um pahars Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 I'm sorry, but I can't really thank poortvliet for anything to be honest. He took this Club to the brink, so I don't particularly feel the need to thank hom for anything.

If he had not done so when he did we would not be doing what we are now! Which begs the questions: Why the fook was he appointed ahead of Wotte in the first place; and, Why the fook wouldn't Lowe sack him when it was obvious he was not up to the task?

From everything I heard he jumped rather wait to be pushed. What a fcking waste of a season, we're still not out of it by any stretch, but I feel more comfortable. Those involved in almost gambling away our future should play no part in future decisions. With every win, it actually undermines those who made that ridiculous decision last summer.

SNSUN Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 I signed Saeijs on Football Manager before Poortvliet did. I am the greatest manager in the world.
benjii Posted 3 March, 2009 Author Posted 3 March, 2009 I agree with everyone as it happens. I suppose this was more about recognition for J-P S than JP.
trousers Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 In my opinion this guy is just as important to us as Saga. Wotte is starting to make Poortie's reign look utterly inept, however, he has had the benefit of Saiejs in the team. So, if JPS was signed at Poortie's behest then fair-play to Jan - at least he left us with something. The OS article at the time he was signed (only on loan BTW.....) Dutch defender Jan-Paul Saeijs has spoken of his desire to succeed in English football at Saints following his move to the south coast. "Southampton is a big club and compared to where it should be it's standing at the moment is too low," he commented. "This is a Premier League Club and I want to come here to make a contribution." At 30 years of age, the centre-back will provide plenty of experience and admits that he will be no stranger to the set-up that Head coach Jan Poortvliet has put in place at the club. "I'm used to playing with younger players, because I did so at ADO den Haag, in Holland and I know that a good mixture of younger and older players is what any team needs. "I feel that I can help the youngsters here and I hope I can make myself into an important player at the club," Saeijs added. The defender is also familiar with his new boss and hopes to impress the former World Cup Finalist from his homeland. "Jan has a fantastic record in Holland and he's a good coach too. I am happy to have passed my medical and I'm fit to play whenever the manager wants me to." That may happen as soon as this weekend should clearance come through in time and the defender can then prepare to live out a long term dream of his. "I said to my girlfriend that I always wanted to play in England, I love the football here and I think that it is the most beautiful game in the world." In his career to-date, Saeijs most notably played for Roda JC, where former Everton player Raymond Atteveld was manager. Atteveld, Everton's first ever Dutch player, made Jan-Paul his captain, before he lost his job in October last year. Jan Poortvliet had been tracking the 6' 3" defender for some time and as soon as his situation became clear, the 52 year-old swooped to claim his services. "I know him personally very well," Poortvliet explained. "His mentality is good and his character is very strong. He's good in the air and quick enough to cover some space when required, so when we knew he was available, we got in touch." "He is a good tackler as well and has even played up-front when he was younger, so we are aware that he can score goals too." "He was very keen on coming to England and helping Southampton to get better results. At 30 he's also a very good age for a central defender and he has played almost 250 league games in Holland." http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/search/?mode=movenav&page_id=11199 Hmmmm....perhaps we do owe credit to Jan on this one then....
lee_saint Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 Good signing, but I still think it should of been the other way round with the management setup, Wotte as the gaffer and JP dealing with the youth and reserve teams.
AlfredKo Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 I signed Saeijs on Football Manager before Poortvliet did. I am the greatest manager in the world. He is also quite solid in the Proevloution Soccer 2009. I should try to use Roda JC in the network mode tonight. Saejs up against Messi, Eto'o will be really a cool battle.
sadoldgit Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 If JPs home record had been anything like his away record would we be so harsh on him? Still, he has gone, perhaps we should spend our energy on supporting our current manager now?
um pahars Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 If JPs home record had been anything like his away record would we be so harsh on him? But it wasn't, so a stupid question. Next;)
CB Fry Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 If JPs home record had been anything like his away record would we be so harsh on him? Still, he has gone, perhaps we should spend our energy on supporting our current manager now? Hey, if JP had us solid top six all season would the fans have been so harsh on him? If JP had won ten games in a row would the fans have been so harsh on him? If JP had taken us to Wembley and we'd won the Carling cup on sunday eight nil against Brazil would the fans have been so harsh on him? You do talk consistent rubbish but berating fans for not supporting a manager because he was hypothetically winning games is possibly the most retarded thing you've yet said.
