Um Bongo Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 Just saw the goals. Euells second was well taken, didn't panic. And Paterson's, into the bottom cornor. Well done lads!
Saint Billy Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 Well done the lads, perhaps Wotte has got what it takes. Fingers crossed that we carry this on and escape the dreaded drop.
corky morris Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 Great result, great run of 3 wins. Still going to be very tough to stay up. I have to say I did not want Wotte, but he is getting the results we so desperately need so fair play to him. If only we could have had Saga, Euel, Skacel & a proper centre half at the start of the season.
Under Weststand Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 Just seen the goal's on SSN good first goal well battled & won by Euell for the second & a great finish by Patterson won the ball in midfield good run & buried it in the bottom corner from outside the box.
Gorgiesaint Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 Great result - but 9 points out of 9 and STILL in the drop zone. This league is going a bit mad. Still - imagine you are a Charlton player and you get back in the dressing room after another home defeat and find out Norwich and Saints have both won away from home. Blackpool game now starting to look MASSIVE. and importantly we are now level on goal difference with Blackpool.
dubai_phil Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 I had 2-0 on the prediction league, but am only too happy to concede max points for the glory of the club Looking at the league table it is frightening to see where we'd have been if we hadn't won 3 on the trot ... WTF have we got to do to get out of the bottom 3 :smt048 Getting merrily sloshed now on some nice Chilean Sauvignon Blanc to complement the 4 pints of London Pride during the game Playing 2 up front .... what a revelation :smt115 Should have come to Rock Bottom for Bullfrogs & Jaeger Bombs to celebrate You going to Rugby World Cup? Meanwhile Ipswich lost in some style - lol an Ipswich site Town 0-3 Southampton Tuesday 03 Mar 2009 21:47:13 by Phil Town not only lose, but lose in some style going down 3-0 at home to Southampton with goals from Jason Euell (2) goals and Matthew Paterson
Dannyboy_Saint Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 Dragging more and more teams into relegation contention with each passing week. Win our game in hand and we could jump 3 places (especially as its a 6 pointer against Watford).
Alanh Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 Just saw the goals on Skysportsnews. Looked like a great effort by Euell for the second, getting up off the ground after Wright parried his first shot. Also a great effort by Paterson robbing the Ipswich man, taking it on and slotting the ball home. Sounds like we've found a solid formation and set of tactics and are benefitting from the confidence that winning breeds. Let's hope the crowds pick up for the last few home games of the season and we finish on a high, clear of the bottom three.
St Landrew Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 Have to say, despite other results, I look at what might have been if the Saints form book had stayed the same. When we were all making our relegation predictions, my bottom 3 were: Norwich Charlton Saints in that order. All the evidence suggested that Saints would not improve and that others were starting to raise their game. After a few games, and not before time, Saints have found some sort of form. I really haven't spotted what they're doing that diffferently to make the difference, apart from the player and formation changes. The defence has firmed up, the strike force has beefened up, and the shots that were going wide, are now going in. It's a fine line, and just shows that doing the right things brings confidence, and hence better play, and further - success. Are we getting out of the woods..? This is Saints, so I'm looking for that fence to sit on. At least I've shifted from definite relegation now.
gjphilsaint Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 As the bottom of the table stands now just look at the games on the last day!!!! Sunday, 3 May 2009 Burnley v Bristol City, 15:00 Charlton v Norwich, 15:00 Crystal Palace v Sheff Utd, 15:00 Ipswich v Coventry, 15:00 Nottm Forest v Southampton, 15:00 Plymouth v Barnsley, 15:00 Preston v QPR, 15:00 Reading v Birmingham, 15:00 Sheff Wed v Cardiff, 15:00 Swansea v Blackpool, 15:00 Watford v Derby, 15:00 Wolverhampton v Doncaster, 15:00
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 (edited) Are you always so aggressive ? Anyway stuff you - well done boys on a wonderful result. Fantastic. Where is the aggressive bit you muppet? Honestly, some of you on here are truly obsessed. Celebrate the winning run ..ffs Well done again all you red and whites.. Edited 3 March, 2009 by ALWAYS_SFC
saintjay77 Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 Mods, someone has hacked Alpine's account... Made me LOL
Dark Munster Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 Great result, great run of 3 wins. Still going to be very tough to stay up. I have to say I did not want Wotte, but he is getting the results we so desperately need so fair play to him. If only we could have had Saga, Euel, Skacel & a proper centre half at the start of the season. And kept the proper manager we already had.
Martin Orford Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 Hate to say it, but has Rupert accidentally stumbled on a decent manager here? Since Wotte's been in control he's slagged off the fans, kicked the team up the a*se, strutted around like an arrogant swine and won three games in a row. Early days yet, but it seems to me he could be the real deal.
trousers Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 What item of clothing did Wotte swing above his head at the final whistle this time?
Delmary Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 MW just let it slip that Euel's high wages prevented him being picked previously.
Minsk Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 I could barely believe my ears listening to the match commentary. Well done to the players and the coaching staff. Wotte is quickly making me eat humble pie at his appointment, as I hoped (and still hope, it won't be eaten until such a time as we are mathematically safe to stay up) he would. Thank you Portaloo for resigning when you did! (Although you could have done it sooner.)

This is Saints, so I'm looking for that fence to sit on. At least I've shifted from definite relegation now. I believe in addition to the good performances from all the other player, the balance given to the side from Size, Gillet and Euell has been a turnaround. Others may have put in better performances, but I have seen that before without us getting the rewards.
J Bizzle Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 2 points behind blackpool with a game in hand, it's looking much better than a month ago!
thorpie the sinner Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 I don't think Wotte has read the script!!! three bloody wins on the bounce for petes sake, wotte a goat.......hang on, wait a minute!!!!! GETTTTTT INNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
trousers Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 Hate to say it, but has Rupert accidentally stumbled on a decent manager here? Point is though, he was originally Lowe's original first choice. The unanswered question is what happened, or was said, this time last year for Lowe to 'tweak' his plan and bring in Poortvliet to work "alongside" Wotte....??
adysaint Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 As the bottom of the table stands now just look at the games on the last day!!!! Sunday, 3 May 2009 Charlton v Norwich, 15:00 Nottm Forest v Southampton, 15:00 Plymouth v Barnsley, 15:00 Hopefully Charlton Norwich will be a dead rubber. Plymouth v Barnsley however could be very interesting.
rallyboy Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 Fantastic night. And if we are slightly disappointed with the other results, imagine how quiet it went in the Forest and Norwich dressing rooms when our result came in!! Get in there! Well done Mr Wotte and the players. Again.
saint1977 Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 That Blackpool game in a couple of weeks is looking almost as big in importance as that tower of theirs. A Norwich mate just texted me and he says it's the first time an Ipswich defeat has ever left him feeling gutted. Barnsley will be pooing themselves and Watford and Derby aren't out of it yet. Doncaster won again - they are close to home and dry now. Charlton are gone though.
obelisk Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 Earlier in the season it looked to me that we had the squad to do ok and now it would appear that we've stumbled out of the mad youth experiment that almost brought the club to its knees to prove that point somewhat. Must admit I was sceptical about Wotte given his part of Lowe's brave new world but it looks like he's showing that he's his own man and has what it takes to fire up these players. I look at the table and can't believe that we're still in the bottom 3 after these wins. I guess that gives an indication of the goo that was about to swallow us. Still lots to do yet though but this is much more like it.
Colinjb Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 (edited) Mixed Emotions So, so, SO delighted we have won three in a row, it'll feel so good to be able to talk about Saints with optimism and pride again for a change. So, SO angry that on this basis the season has been wasted on this evidence, the squad has always been good enough, but management decisions have YET A-F*CKING GAIN caused us fans, the ones who essentially keep the club going, another season of worry, poor league positions and heartbreak. We could have been up there this year, we are capable of beating very good championship sides and always had the right amount of talent in the team. I don't care how well we do, a viable alternative to Rupert Lowe and the existing board must be found as soon as possible, he must not be allowed another moment of 'inspiration.' But hey, time to enjoy the win and feeling that we may just about be able to look ahead with optimism. Edited 3 March, 2009 by Colinjb
saintj Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 It's a bit of a crappy picture, but for those who won't see it for a while : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMwbBTqK-bI
Bailey Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 What a fantastic result! I saw someone predicted this scoreline on the other thread and I literally laughed out loud. I wouldn't have thought we'd be sitting here after ANOTHER win. Seen the goals on SkySportsNews too and all 3 are pretty well taken, especially Paterson's goal. Very frustrating that we've won 3 in a row and yet we're STILL in the bottom 3. We've just got to keep this form going and get something from the game on Saturday.
Belgiansaint Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 (edited) @corky morris & dark munster: Skacel, Euell and Saga were available. Somehow, and regardless his being undoubtedly out of his depth, JP wasn't allowed to pick them (Rupe's plan A: the kids will walk this league and all our financial problems will be solved as we'll save on the wage bill + we'll get lots of cash when bigger clubs knock at our door). Now MW is allowed to pick them (Rupe's plan B: I open my eyes and leave football matters to football people). What a difference a free rein makes! Edited 3 March, 2009 by Belgiansaint

saint1977 Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 The way Wolves and Brum are playing I don't think getting something at both of those grounds is out of the question. A few weeks ago when JP was here we'd have needed a 5 goal head start but the top teams - although Reading finally won again tonight - are mis-firing and the bottom sides bar Charlton are picking up points.
DT Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 It's a bit of a crappy picture, but for those who won't see it for a while : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMwbBTqK-bI what's brilliant about that is how the players celebrate each goal, showing real togetherness and team spirit. v happy tonight. ps pompey lost too! almost a perfect night
Whitey Grandad Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 I'd forgotten what it was like to win games. Three games ago I asked when was the earliest date that we could be mathematically relegated. Now I'm asking when we could be mathematically safe. I still think we'll finish 4th from bottom though, but I'll settle for that.
warsash saint Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 Superb result BUT I f**king hate QPR  Everytime we need them to do us a favour, they just roll over & die...w**kers
LGTL Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 Just got back, staying with brother in essex. We were brilliant all game, and never really looked under threat at any point, although the 2nd goal helped! Good atmosphere from those that made the trip, although Ipswich, and their fans, were truely awful. Onwards and upwards now, lets hope this form continues.
krissyboy31 Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 Great win. On the prediction thread, quite a few were predicting 1-1 or 2-2 and TBH I would have bitten off 'their' hand for that. However, with Norwich's win at Loftus, that would have dropped us back to 2nd bottom. Three wins in a row and 9 points in 10 days is some achievement but without them, we would just about be dead and buried with Charlton.
Northant Saint Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 Took me half an hour to be able to log in. Not my fault. Grow up. To be fair to you Alps I like your attitude at the moment.

Absolutely agree, and although I'm way happier than bitter, I can't deny a part of me is saying exactly the same as what you have put above. We must ensure that we don't do anything even remotely fcking Revolutionary this summer, so get Lowe out of the decision making process ASAfckingP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chris Larkin Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 It's a bit of a crappy picture, but for those who won't see it for a while : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMwbBTqK-bI Cheers for that. It's really strange to see the players celebrating, I've got so used to seeing them hanging their heads when a goal is scored. Charlton seem as good as down now, 12 points in with 13 to go. They don't look like they have a hope of going on a run good enough to make that kind of deficit up. Just off to buy my ticket for Brum now. COYR!
paris Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 Thanks nice one ..Paterson's goal and Euell second were particlarly good.. Bonne Nuit time for do dos .. It's a bit of a crappy picture, but for those who won't see it for a while : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMwbBTqK-bI

Belgiansaint Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 Charlton, Blackpool, Watford and Norwich will all lose points between themselves on Saturday. A draw in Brum would be fantastic and even a defeat wouldn't be disastrous given those circumstances.
SNSUN Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 Unbelieveable. There is no other word for it. I had the missus dragging me around Sainsburys during the game and found out the result from teletext. We're fighting, thus i'm happy!
redder freak Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 A good win, bearing in mind that Ipswich are really a Premiership side. Magilton out!!
