Weston Super Saint Posted 3 March, 2009 Share Posted 3 March, 2009 From Bursledon, and need to be there for 09:30. What is the best route to take, how long will it take, and what time do I need to leave???
Al de Man Posted 3 March, 2009 Share Posted 3 March, 2009 I understand most taxi drivers take the M27 & A27 to Worthing and then head north up the A280, then A24, A264, M23. Are you going during the week or at the weekend?

And going for a meeting rather than catching a plane to an exotic part of the world
stevegrant Posted 3 March, 2009 Share Posted 3 March, 2009 Direct train from Southampton Central on the London Victoria service.
Weston Super Saint Posted 3 March, 2009 Author Share Posted 3 March, 2009 Direct train from Southampton Central on the London Victoria service. Taxi, to train station, train to Southampton, another train to Gatwick, taxi to meeting venue, taxi back to train station, train to Southampton, another train, another taxi! Total cost, about 10 times more than the diesel cost to get there and back In these credit crunch times the company probably won't want to play ball there!! Jillyanne Posted 4 March, 2009 Share Posted 4 March, 2009 M3, M25, Gatwick + 1, leave at 06.30.
St Landrew Posted 4 March, 2009 Share Posted 4 March, 2009 M3, M25, Gatwick Not forgetting the M23 South turnoff.
Essruu Posted 4 March, 2009 Share Posted 4 March, 2009 M3, M25, Gatwick + 1, leave at 06.30. The above is the route of mugs. Possibly the most reliably rubbish stretch of the M25 for jams and delays is between J12 (M3) and J10 (A3). On a clear day then, yes, can be fairly quick despite the extra 30 miles that route adds to your journey; but not so on a typically rubbish day. If you're leaving from the north of the city then M3>A31>A3>Join M25 at J10> M23S. Otherwise, M27>A27>A29>B2139 to Storrington>A283>A24>A264>M23N - Sounds complicated but it's not and is less mileage (so cheaper) and you don't get the hold ups that you do on the M3/M25. There are also a whole host of routes going the A29/A24 way and, if you have the time for a leisurely drive back, then go left at the roundabout from the terminals instead of right towards the M23, then snake your way through the countryside through places like Rusper and Amberley. It's a beautiful part of the country.
Johnny Bognor Posted 4 March, 2009 Share Posted 4 March, 2009 Otherwise, M27>A27>A29>B2139 to Storrington>A283>A24>A264>M23N - Sounds complicated but it's not and is less mileage (so cheaper) and you don't get the hold ups that you do on the M3/M25. Absolutely spot on. I live just outside Chichester and my missus is Cabin Crew for Virgin - she regularly (obviously) goes to Gatwick and the best route is via Storrington. Other alternatives include: 1. M27>A27> (basically keep going until worthing, then join the A24 at the Crematorium roundabout)A24>A264>M23N 2. M27>A27> A24>A272 through cowfold>M23N Similar to Esruu's, just a slight variation on the theme.

Not bothered about the mileage, as I'll be slapping in an expense form based on the other route anyways Any idea [roughly] how long this route will take, leaving Bursledon at approx 07:30???
