Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 3 March, 2009 Share Posted 3 March, 2009 http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/article2289008.ece O do shut up! If I was getting the money you were mate, I could handle someone calling me a 'Judas'. I accept that racial abuse is in no way acceptable obviously, before someone 'has a go'. JohnnyFartPants Posted 3 March, 2009 Share Posted 3 March, 2009 I agree. Not only that, but if I had the choice between making the money I make or earning what he earns AND I had to play football and get racially abused in a mainly black country, I think I would still take his job. OldNick Posted 3 March, 2009 Share Posted 3 March, 2009 lose pointsLOL Pompey would be in the Conference by now. I assume he asked the fans to quieten down when BT was about to take the penalty the other day. He is hypocritical and is too sensitive to be a footballer. I expect he will want flowers and candles around the touchline next

Saint Martini Posted 3 March, 2009 Share Posted 3 March, 2009 How can you punish the clubs (and their innocent supporters) for this. I think he needs to get some perspective. If they want to prosecute those shouting this kind of racist abuse that's fine with me (but do it outside football stadiums aswell then) but to take it out on others is just plain ridiculous, the power of clubs over their support is not that big. St Landrew Posted 4 March, 2009 Share Posted 4 March, 2009 On the general subject of racial abuse, of course Sol Campbell has a point. But there's no way you are going to get 1000's of supporters to utterly behave for 90+ minutes, and besides, at what point do you police the enough abuse - now we penalise rule..? And if he thinks Tennis, Rugby, Cricket and Athletics are completely free of racial abuse, then he needs to watch those other sports a little more closely. Racial abuse obviously needs to be eliminated. But through education, not policing. And it's a mere fraction of the level it was 30-40 years ago. As far as I can remember the abuse Sol got from the Spurs fans wasn't racial. I thought it was because he is an escapee from the loony bin with a penchant for same sex relations. I thought it was because he is an escapee from the loony bin with a penchant for same sex relations. The Sun was referring to that, but Campbell was referring to the general abuse he gets. I suspect he's well aware that Spuds supporters will never let him forget he did the unforgiveable thing of moving to the next borough.

bridge too far Posted 4 March, 2009 Share Posted 4 March, 2009 There's a letter in today's Guardian from a Spurs fan in which he says he "doesn't condone the racist and homophobic chants aimed at Campbell but that they are the result, not of his moving to Arsenal (Pat Jennings was regularly treated as a returning hero after he signed for them) but of the manner in which he did this, treating with utter contempt the club that had nurtured him" Today's Guardian is well worth a read altogether. There's a section on how there might be an enquiry into the Leeds takeover out of administration (allegedly dodgy) and also, in the Business pages, about how companies listed on AIM are likely to get closer scrutiny because, again, the corporate governance of some listed companies is suspect! Both could be relevant to us!
