Son of Bob Posted 2 March, 2009 Posted 2 March, 2009 Just been having this discussion with the old man and we were trying to agree on the best looking F1 car of all time. I always come back to the Lotus 72 in JPS livery...
St Landrew Posted 2 March, 2009 Posted 2 March, 2009 Although I never saw them race, as I'm not that old [honest], I think the 1950's era of car really are the best looking, and this is the best example of that period in my opinion:

Colinjb Posted 2 March, 2009 Posted 2 March, 2009 Case closed, no other car comes close. Here is another pic to seal the deal:

Son of Bob Posted 3 March, 2009 Author Posted 3 March, 2009 Not a bad choice but the 72 is nicer! That was a nice era in racing. It's not everyones cup of tea but the Ferrari 312 T5 is one of my all time favourites as well. Mainly due to the fact I spent many, many Sunday afternoons as a young kid watching my all-time hero Gilles Villeneuve battling wheel to wheel with the Renaults. I have never been affected so bad by the death of someone I've never met than when Gilles met his untimely end at Spa in 1982. It was like losing a close relative. I cried my eyes out. Here is the best F1 duel of all time; And here is the accident at Spa that sadly took Villeneuves life (warning - it is quite graphic); http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=74Z8V8RvRX0&NR=1
Dog Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 I used to tug one off over Mario Andrettis JPS car, it was the finest looking car ever. But I do like the look of this beauty.
Son of Bob Posted 3 March, 2009 Author Posted 3 March, 2009 R26 It just looked the same as every other car that year but with a different paint job!

Colinjb Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 A few runners up from me, the Jordan 191 always looked pretty much bang on to me, cleanlines, and a distinctive yet simple livery, magic. The livery is much a muchness but in terms of how the car looks, it's proportions look utterly correct to me. From no angle does it look bad. The Ferrari 156, utterly distinctive and all the better for it. The Brabham BT52, a very purposeful looking machine, and finally: More beautiful simplicity in design, the best looking non sponsored Lotus for me.

St Landrew Posted 4 March, 2009 Posted 4 March, 2009 Have you noticed how all those 1960's rollover protection bars were a bit of a joke..?
Arizona Posted 4 March, 2009 Posted 4 March, 2009 The 2000 Jaguar gets my vote, although I liked the 1997 McLaren too.
Colinjb Posted 4 March, 2009 Posted 4 March, 2009 Have you noticed how all those 1960's rollover protection bars were a bit of a joke..? That would match the other safety 'measures' of the time then.
hamster Posted 4 March, 2009 Posted 4 March, 2009 Not being a fan of F!, I feel obliged to say that the JPS car is probably the most recognisible one in the world. Ergo, it is the best design. These machines are 4 wheeled adverts after all, and it is quite probable that some people chose to smoke JPS due to that car. Just my opinion.
hamster Posted 4 March, 2009 Posted 4 March, 2009 Adding to my post; as a lad I fell in love with this car and would love one, I really would. I have =been told that they are crap, but it is on my lottery winning shopping list. It is gorgeous.
Greedyfly Posted 10 March, 2009 Posted 10 March, 2009 My favourite ever driver by so far, in my fave car, in my fave year. This guy was 'win at all costs' and yet such a sublime driver. Sooooo badly missed throughout the late 90s IMO.
Sheaf Saint Posted 10 March, 2009 Posted 10 March, 2009 (edited) Not great livery but I always thought the lines on this car were beautiful. Edit: I didn't notice this picture was taken after they added the stupid little added wings which ruined the aesthetics somewhat. Edited 10 March, 2009 by Sheaf Saint
Arizona Posted 11 March, 2009 Posted 11 March, 2009 Good Shout Ponty. Loved the Bitten and Hisses logos whenever they raced in countries which don't like fag adverts. And the 1998 "Buzzin Hornets" one wasn't bad either.
