Smalls Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 But who cares, we certainly deserved the rub of the green now and again and in all honest I have lost count on how many have gone against us especially at home.
Nexstar Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 Yeah but the penalty was much more obvious, god only knows why he had both arms in the air!
lordswoodsaints Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 who else was sh1tting themselves when McG stepped up to take the pen......because i was!
SoccerMom Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 Me. I kept thinking, "Please give it to Drew," but I guess DMG had a point to prove.
um pahars Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 It certainly looked like a very good shout, the only saving grace could be said that it was ball to hand as it sort of just dropped on his arm (or at least it looked like that from my view). But then again, as others have mentioned on the post match thread it looked as though we had a very good shout when someone got up ended on the edge of the box in the second half.
AlfredKo Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 Perry did not do it on purpose in my opinion and his arm wasn't being raised. Sometimes official does not give penalty in that scenario. Similar things happened in Euro 2008, when Stoor handled the ball when Sweden met Spain. But our penalty is different that player was raising both of his arms to block Euell's cross. I think when you use hand to block any shots or crosses inside the box then you deserved the punishment which is a penalty, otherwise not necessary a penalty
Gingeletiss Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 IMO, he raised his arm to shield the play from the attacker on his blind side, and lost the flight of the ball, which had looped up and then came down on his outstretched arm........amazing that we can all see different things.
saintwarwick Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 But who cares, we certainly deserved the rub of the green now and again and in all honest I have lost count on how many have gone against us especially at home. Like the foul on Saganowski in the second half , I didn't see the Perry incident was it in the second half?
saintwarwick Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 Me. I kept thinking, "Please give it to Drew," but I guess DMG had a point to prove. Drew said on the radio he is second choice penalty taker behind McGoldrick, incidently Size is third choice.
um pahars Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 Like the foul on Saganowski in the second half , I didn't see the Perry incident was it in the second half? Yeah, there was a melee in the penalty area and the ball looped up and then it just dropped on Perry's already outstretched arm. Everyone around us were certainly wincing.
VectisSaint Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 who else was sh1tting themselves when McG stepped up to take the pen......because i was! McGoldrick probably

um pahars Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 Just seen the clip on youtube and the reason I didn't see it is I sit in Itchen near to Chapel, I can see why you were wincing You got a YouTube link?????
saintwarwick Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 You got a YouTube link????? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgIc7a9dnI0
um pahars Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 I can see why you were wincing I winced again after watching that link (thanks for the link). Can see why it wasn't given (arguably ball to hand), but also wouldn't have been too upset if it had.
Gis Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 It looked like a certain penalty from Block 5............and even more so looking at the clip. Still a deserved victory - perhaps our fortunes have changed earlier this season this would have been two points lost.
docker-p Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgIc7a9dnI0 I think the linesmen got both decisions right. The first the guy had both hands waving in the air which blocked the cross, the second the ball drop onto a outstretched but not high hand and didn't alter the flight of the ball significantly. I may of course interpret it differently if i were Welsh.
Saints foreva Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 Tbh it looked like we should of had a 2nd penalty when Saganowski went down in the area in the 2nd half.
um pahars Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 Tbh it looked like we should of had a 2nd penalty when Saganowski went down in the area in the 2nd half. Would like to haver another look at that one as my view was partially blocked, but you're right in that it also looked a good shout.
saintwarwick Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 Tbh it looked like we should of had a 2nd penalty when Saganowski went down in the area in the 2nd half. This one I had a clear view as it was directly in front of me and was a penalty. He was definately tripped but it looked like he overreacted when going down and maybe looked like a dive to the ref.
Huffton Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 Tbh it looked like we should of had a 2nd penalty when Saganowski went down in the area in the 2nd half. I had a decent view of it and it was a definite penalty for me. Perhaps the ref was doing a bit of 'evening up' for not giving the Perry handball!

Pip Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 The only thing I'd say about the Perry handball is that he was not looking in the direction the ball came from so therefore it couldn't have been "deliberate" handball. However if he'd been in a Cardiff shirt I would have thought differently! Maybe luck does even itself out - if so, we've got a good few shouts coming our way just when we need them.
ThorpG Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 I had a decent view of it and it was a definite penalty for me. Perhaps the ref was doing a bit of 'evening up' for not giving the Perry handball! Was a clear dive by Saganowski, never a penalty. He should have been booked for diving, to be honest.
hypochondriac Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 Was a clear dive by Saganowski, never a penalty. He should have been booked for diving, to be honest. It wasn't a dive.

Gemmel Posted 2 March, 2009 Posted 2 March, 2009 Was a clear dive by Saganowski, never a penalty. He should have been booked for diving, to be honest. I think it was the fact he made it look so theatrical, as to why it wasnt given. The defender clearly took Saga before the ball, but when he decided to throw a couple of double pikes and pieroets (?) into the mix, the ref was never going to give it.
Greenridge Posted 2 March, 2009 Posted 2 March, 2009 If it had been a Cardiff defender instead of Perry I think there would be plenty of people ranting and raving about not getting a penalty. We see this type of incident result in a pen 9 times out of ten but thank god on this occasion it went our way. Wotte talked alot about luck playing a part when he first took on the job and whilst I'm not a believer in this per se I hope he's right. There were one or two things that went in our favour - good strikes on Kelvin's goal going straight at him for example. Let's hope it continues!
eelpie Posted 2 March, 2009 Posted 2 March, 2009 Would like to haver another look at that one as my view was partially blocked, but you're right in that it also looked a good shout. It looked like a penalty to me, but Saga had been tripping himself up quite a lot during the game. Maybe the ref thought this was another occasion
Junior Mullet Posted 2 March, 2009 Posted 2 March, 2009 A decent crowd, good atmosphere and playing at home - you make your own luck - referees are only human.
hamster Posted 2 March, 2009 Posted 2 March, 2009 Maybe there is a deal being finalised between FlyBe and the Referee's Association regarding shirt sponsorship of officials? That decision may have clinched it methinks. And anyone who seriously says that it was not 'hand to ball' is s liar. I've seen enough clear cut decisions go against us, so when tha tables are turned I enjoy the buzz that Man U fans seem to enjoy so much.
rallyboy Posted 2 March, 2009 Posted 2 March, 2009 I just saw the panicky look from Perry to Davis as the ball came down, from the Northam I didn't see the handball so the tv replay was a revelation. I can only imagine the officials were similarly unsighted as it was a blatant arm back to the keeper - technically a backpass! Now I feel quite bad about it, oh hang on, I've got over it already!
Window Cleaner Posted 2 March, 2009 Posted 2 March, 2009 Rule 1 of football; If the ref didn't blow his whistle it wasn't handball.
david in sweden Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 Me. I kept thinking, "Please give it to Drew," but I guess DMG had a point to prove. A goal, any goal is great for the confidence. well done David McG. Maybe he'll put 2 or 3 the right side of the posts tonight !

Penalty itself was very good too, calm, calculated and sent the keeper the wrong way. Scoring, and celebrating infront of thre Northern must of done his confidence good as well!

I think it has to be a 'deliberate kick' to be a backpass and penalised by an indirect free kick. I've seen these sort of incidents given so for once we were lucky.

PhilB Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 The Saganowski penalty shout was as debateable as the Perry handball. Some refs give it some don't, IMHO the Saga incident was NOT a penalty (Yes I was at the match).

Scoring, and celebrating infront of thre Northern must of done his confidence good as well! Although it's a matter of academic interest only I thought DMG's pen was eminately saveable , he struck it well enough but the ball was nowhere near the corner of the goal - had the keeper guessed correctly and dived to his left he'd had easily got it .

It was stretched out,and not remotely in a natural position. thus, according to the book...just as clear a penalty as the one we were given ! at a stretch one might even argue that the Cardiff player just was trying to protect his face, while Perry..err,was just stupid
