hypochondriac Posted 28 February, 2009 Posted 28 February, 2009 A few games ago people were slating him and saying he had no effect. Spoke to quite a few people after the game and they agreed with my view that Svennson has a hand in this recent revival. On the third half, they said that Wotte kept going to talk to Michael throughout the game and our defence looks very assured and composed. Llyod James especially looks to have improved enormously. Do you think Killer is having a positive impact?
1965onwards Posted 28 February, 2009 Posted 28 February, 2009 Very valid point Hypo. One of the bravest players i have ever seen, can't see that he would have anything other than a positive influence.
pilsburydoughboy Posted 28 February, 2009 Posted 28 February, 2009 Why with five minutes to go do we invite the opposition onto us by playing five across the back?
pilsburydoughboy Posted 28 February, 2009 Posted 28 February, 2009 What we have we hold. ????????????
JohnnyFartPants Posted 28 February, 2009 Posted 28 February, 2009 ???????????? I think it means "this will sound like I know a lot" but it comes across as "I have been on the lash all day"
hamster Posted 28 February, 2009 Posted 28 February, 2009 (edited) You know what, I think you've hit on somethingb here hypo. I too noticed how 'involved' Svensson was on the touchline. It surely cannot be just coincidence that Rudi's form seems to have taken an upturn, he was taking a hell of a lot on his shoulders when we he first came out of the wilderness under Jan. Maybe Killers made the others at the back take responsibilty for their selection. I voted Rudi my MOTM because i reckon he is pushing forward and giving the midfield and forward confidence to win games. Just compare the body language under Wotte to how it was. Rudi is my tip for player of the season although the less football savvy will go for the ones who score most goals. Also note how Kelvin really does command his box now, he doesn;t have to be nervous about those in front of him anymore. ( until next week) I believe that we are THE team of the week. Great performance, great management , great fans, and it felt ****ing great to be part of it. And god it would be a fool who predicts a crowd of less than 20,000 fir the Derby game at this rate. Do you think Killer is having a positive impact? Mark Dennis on Radio Hampshire was hinting that Svennson is having a significant impact and that he and Wotte are working well together. There is no doubt that our defence has improved but whether it is Wotte or Svennson or both isn't at all clear.
Leslie Charteris Posted 28 February, 2009 Posted 28 February, 2009 Killer is a true Saints legend - I can believe it's true, I hope it's true and if he can improve our goal difference, that could be what keeps us out of League One and in the Championship next season.
L1Minus10 Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 Why with five minutes to go do we invite the opposition onto us by playing five across the back? The opposition is going to lump to ball over our midfield regardless so putting one extra at the back is sensible IMO. I agree that we do invite the opposition to do this by leaving only the useless BWP up front as he couldn't occupy a toilet, much less two central defenders.

Seems to have worked under Wotte thus far...
Barry the Badger Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 Why with five minutes to go do we invite the opposition onto us by playing five across the back? They were all over us for a few minutes before that change was made. The players had already started to get behind the ball and defend deep, and if they're going to do that anyway it makes sense to have Liptak doing it rather than Saga.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 I think the primary reason for the upturn is that the players AND the coaches are now responding to a system of play and a general coaching set-up that actually makes some f-ing sense. Killer is clearly a part in that improvement.

dubai_phil Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 Besides being a "commanding" player, Svennson was also an "intelligent" player with a great ability to read the game. Right now it seems as if we are using brains to coach, train and select our team rather than a doctrine As others have said elsewhere, football is an easy game -kick a round object into a net, but it requires intelligence to see how easy it can be and adjust to be successful
alpine_saint Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 Seems a combination of drilling by Killer and stabilising by Size has done the job that has been missing since about 2003 or 2004...
chivvy1664 Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 siejes is the thing that has made the diffrence football is mainly about the players.
SoccerMom Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 Seems a combination of drilling by Killer and stabilising by Size has done the job that has been missing since about 2003 or 2004... There has to be a DIY pun in there somewhere. Not just papering over the cracks?
Give it to Ron Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 I don't think its just coincidence that defensively we are better since Michael came in as coach. The one main improvement for me is corners...we actually now have someone in Size who can head the ball clear as well. At the start of the seaon and long way through any ball into our box was a free forwards header, recently we compete far more or have in the last 3 home games.
hamster Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 There has to be a DIY pun in there somewhere. Not just papering over the cracks? And increasing the players workmate.
bridge too far Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 And increasing the players workmate. Screwing the opposition and hammering the ball into the net :smt102
Jackie@home Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 I'm sure he's having a positive influence, but I think the biggest difference is the fact that, apart from Lloyd James, we actually have a very experienced defence -hardly coincidence. I see Lee Molyneux has disappeared off of the scene very quickly - let's hope that he doesn't turn out to be another waste of money that we haven't got.
hypochondriac Posted 1 March, 2009 Author Posted 1 March, 2009 siejes is the thing that has made the diffrence football is mainly about the players. Certainly not true. Mangement and coaching is a huge huge part.
