Selection dilemma vs Ipswich on Tuesday?

So, Ipswich on Tuesday....

Select a winning starting line-up for third game on the trot or bring in a one or two fresh legs?

My gut feel is to start with the same 11 again.

Thoughts?

Schneiderlin for Lallana, Wotton on the bench if fit.

I don't think Schneiderlin is correct guy for the right flank - he got pulled into the middle far too often and is more comfortable playing a holding role at CM IMO. I would keep the team the same, but give Smith a chance on the right or possibly start with BWP.

Keep it going with what's working and let injury dictate the changes - we don't have the luxury of being cute with our team selection.

That said I've been impressed with Wottes subs - how many times have we rolled our eyes on bizarre subs during a game from Bulrey onwards

Good subs apart from bringing saga off at Bristol city.

I agree, I would like to see Smith given a chance again.

And also is McGoldrick playing in midfield going to work away from home?

Well the opposition won't be expecting it so best time to try it. Thing is will Wotte stick with a 4-1-2-1-2 or change to a 4-5-1 as it's an away game.

I'm sorry but Smith is sh1te. I'd sooner play BWP on the right.

Well apparently so was Euell, Gillett, Davis, McGoldrick, James among others ;)

Smith is hungry to prove himself, and adds much needed pace. I think he deserves another chance, in the event of Lallana being injured just like those mentioned above have, or are beginning to prove themselves after numerous chances.

But those players have proved themselves that they are capable, Smith, the Millwall reject, on the otherhand is just sh1te. I'd even put James on the right wing and bring Wotton in at right back.

As it's a diamond, presuming we stick to the same formation, I don't think Smith, even if he was a great winger, is the best for that for position. Spiderman in for Lallana as the only change. They should be able to play 3 games a week. It's not like we've had to do it every week all season.

Assuming Lallana is out I would definately play Schneiderlin. He is the one who is likely to supply Saga and Euell with the sort of service they need to be effective.

James is only just now proving himself as being adequate, and thats over a WHOLE season. Smith has had a handful of games. Give him a chance before totally writing him off. He did well against Man Utd in the cup and went on a fantastic run, before admittedly messing up the shot. But a 'sh1te' player would not have been able to ghost past one of the top defenses in Europe. We have very little pace in our side, so there is always room in the match day squad for a player like Smith.

Please don't change a winning team. That would be suicidal. They are learning how each other work, and if they really want to stay up, they will all work their socks of for 90 minutes. At this level, tiredness should never be an issue.

Smith is a left footed winger and plays best on the left so... with our new coach having this unusual habit of putting players in their best positions, I would not expect Smith to start if Lallana is injured. The fact that he is even more lightweight and the fact that we are away from home are two other reasons.

Anyone suggesting starting BWP is IMO, someone who can't tell a professional footballer from a complete steaming pile of useless sh!t.

And Schneiderlin is a central midfielder. What do you say to those suggesting that then?

Smith has played right wing plenty of times in his career. Had McLaggon been fit then he would have been the obvious choice, but seeing as he isn't, we aren't left with too many options apart from Smith.

And you think Smith is any better

There's not a lot wrong with our away form this season. We're in the sh1t because of our dismal form at sms. It's not rocket science that you (should) play differently at home or away. So do other teams, so stick to the away style that's worked reasonably well so far this season.

Plan 'B' seems to be working at home now (maybe), but no need to change the away style.

"Saints have been boosted by the news that Adam Lallana will travel to Ipswich for tonight's Championship clash.

The talented midfielder was substituted in the second half on Saturday after taking a knock, with Morgan Schneiderlin coming on in his place for the last twenty minutes.

But the 20-year appears to have shaken off the worst of it and joins the Mark Wotte's squad, which has no other fresh injury concerns.

"Everybody is fit," Wotte declared. "Paul Wotton is back and I've added Oscar Gobern and Matthew Paterson to the group to give me more options competition for places on the bench. I think it's a good strategy to never change a winning team."

If Adam doesn't make it, then Thomson should go on the right. Proper winger, bags of pace and on the right foot. He and James have played enough together in the past to be able to overlap properly.

Doesn't look like Thomson is in the squad....

Saints: (from) Davis, Forecast, James, Saeijs, Perry, Liptak, Skacel, Wotton, Gobern, Schneiderlin, Smith, Lallana, Gillett, Surman, Wright-Phillips, Euell, McGoldrick, Saganowski, Paterson.

Now THERE is a line from a Saints manager that we have not heard in a few years!

All those Burley tinkerings and the JP lotto. Hope it works

No, Thomson is pencilled in to play for the Reserves tomorrow night ... unless his loan to Bournemouth is finalised in the next 24 hours.

Like you, I'd sooner he was in the first team squad, but one step at a time.
