Im not being funny but if the lad was looking for trouble then its his own fault c for all we know he could of been a lad who wanted a fight and came off worse and any1 like that desveres everything they get but if he was inconcent like most people who get hurt then i feel sorry for him just wish there was not so much violent at the game calling them names and banter inside sms is as far as it should go afterwards you should be able to go 4 a pint together and joke about the game.

there was some trouble during the game in a pub between saints and cardiff fans who didnt have tickets, from what i hear (and its only a rumour) there were about 15-20 cardiff lads and 6 saints lads,i saw one of the saints lads after the game and his face was a bit bruised and cut.

wether or not this was the incident i dont know :smt102

It was true and was nearer 25 lads.

This story is definitely true. My Mum's car was parked right next to where it happened and she had to leave it there as the police had cordoned the area off.

She had to get a lift home from the police and from the sound of it they are worried that the Cardiff fan might not survive. Apparently he fell back and cracked his head on the pavement.

Whatever happened and whatever the stories we will inevitably here about who was in the right or wrong let's hope he pulls through.

There were also loads of policemen around the Kingsland Tavern and The Eagle after the game.

Did the police close all of the pubs in town for a period after the final whistle?

All the pubs below bar were closed after the game for a while. A group of Hants + Welsh police appeared to be following a gang of lads up to that area.

Chapel Arms was closed after the game saying they were a scene of crime due to some Cardiff lad getting his head smashed against the road.

there were loads of Cardiff fans in the Chapel Arms before the game but they were all good natured and had plenty of time for a chat, there were some who were mullered but not agro in any way.

****s me off when sh*t like this goes down in our city - NO NEED!!!!!!!!!

awful news but it doesnt suprise me at all that it kicked off with the Welsh fans. Our train was held up at soton central for the best part of an hour after the recent swansea game while the swans fans set light to the train toilets and seats then it kicked off in a big way on the train

This is what the guy said

"The lad was drunk and couldn't get into the ground. he went back to the pub that he had been in. As he was off my bus Myself and another stayed with him.

There was us 3 and a family in the pub, and 2 other lads from Southampton , (NOT FOOTBALL FANS )

One of them had said that the boy had offended his brother in law and got stroppy, I calmed it down and bought the family a drink each , all sorted then I was outside talking with them and drinking our drinks and for no reason whatsoever the one of them who was behind me hit me with something from the side .split my eyelid right across. he ran up the street shouting and calling us. I was covered in blood and asked what the fook that was for. he started coming back and jumping up and down and the 3 of them joined in and said Come on blah blah blah.

The boy who was drunk came out of the pub and one of the others kicked his legs from nder him, and he went down flat out unconcious.

I had 5 stitches across my eyelid. he is in a bad way in Southampton General hospital.

all the crap about us 3 involved were refused entry to the ground is utter ****e. 2 of us never went to the ground as we stayed with him not to leave him on his own.

Al the ****e that it was footbal fans fighting is utter ****e.

Thats the truth "

Those 2 guys who gave up their tickets and stayed with some drunk guy they did not even know are top top blokes. How many people in this day and age would do that? Not many.

I feel really bad for the guys and the complete and utter ****s who did it deserve locking up. Hopefully with all the cctv cameras all over the place as well as witnesses that will be exactly what happens. These little punks are what drags this country down.

I hope the guy who got his eyelid cut by some spineless **** from hitting him from the side out of nowhere presses charges but more importantly i hope he and the guy in the coma make a complete recovery and return to full health. Another sad day for our city.

im afraid it is a fact of life that any violent incidents that happen when the saints are playing will be credited to football related violence even if it is not................if the above reports are to be believed then this looks the case with this incident.i hope that all involved are ok and that the cowards involved are caught.

we have enough sh1te aimed at us without having this incident on our cv as well.

Its not sick. I'd rather it not be Saints fans as well as it doesn't look good on us as a club. He isn't exactly wishing the guy death is he?

Sounds pretty bad. Will be keeping up with this story in interest.

It was a typo by me, I put "i'm glad it WAS a Saints fan" instead of wasn't.

Edited now - and obviously you're right, i'm definitely not wishing the guy death.

I arrived quite late for the game and was in the St Marys street area. There was a large group of fans without colours being escorted by the police through the market to the stadium. They were looking for trouble if not already caused it. Some little Cardiff oiks were being turned away before the bridge near Golden grove

I saw a bloke in a pink jumper refused entry to the kingsland for being drunk. No idea if he was involved in any way.

This seems like the guy (my brother described to me by wearing a pink t-shirt, who saw / heard the some fight going on from his flat looking onto Anderson Road) who is according to various people has died or in I.C.

It seems something happened at the Chapel Arms and spilled onto the streets. My brother cant describe how many was involved but he says some ran towards to Ocean Village and some started to run after them until they realized one was on the ground not moving.

The paramedics tried to get him to start breathing but he says they knew it wasnt much more they could do. My brother heard that he died but couldn't say it was his mates or the police and after that he heard enough & closed his windows.

If true it sounds like it was a saints fan involved after all. Sad times.

I parked in Golden Grove at about 2.45 and walked across the bridge. I was following a group of Saints fans, not in colours, all aged in their forties and fifties. Two morons in their late teens came swaggering down the road from the bridge going back towards Golden Grove and barged into the group swearing at them. Nothing happened apart from a bit of name calling and the fans went on their way to the match. I have no doubt that they could have creamed these two if they wanted to but they refused to bite.

However, we looked behind at them and it seemed they got into a bit of grief where the path from the bridge comes out on Golden Grove. A large crowd formed and a dozen or so police rushed over there from the stadium.

No idea what happened, but if they had continued with their attitude I am sure they would have come across some people with less restraint.

I'm not sure if they were football fans or not as they weren't wearing any colours and didn't seem to have Welsh accents; maybe they had been refused entry or maybe they were just arseholes out looking for a ruck, which I think they may well have got.

I have sympathy with this guy, don't get me wrong, but if people go to football looking for aggro then you have to expect something to happen to you surely? Or am I missing the point?

*I have just read the rest of the thread stating that this may not have been football related so my comment above is null and void.

I was walking to the ground on my own from St Marys Church to male adult Cardiff fans with two young lads with them about 6 years old and one of the kids spat at me.

That's appalling isn't it

Can you imagine what a classy family he goes home to?

If it was the same incident...

The lad that hit him was only a little nipper, knocked him clean out though.

A Cardiff "fan" in a pink top was walking back to the Chapel Arms, 15 minutes before kick-off, with a mate and they were both plastered and looking for trouble. The guy in the pink top deliberately walked into my son as we were walking towards the ground and when my son said what the **** did you do that for, he mouthed some Welsh obsenities and went on his way.

I have no idea whether this guy in the pink top was the same one that sadly lies in Southampton General at the moment, but if it is the same one, he was looking for a fight and apparently found one....

From the Echo, the guy was wearing a pink top.

So it was just a Cardiff mong drunk, looking for a fight and thinking he can take on the world?

Don't get me wrong, I hope he recovers, but no sympathy from here based on some of the accounts.

No doubt this will be another jamie turneresque story where he is proclaimed as a war Hero and innocent family man.

If you are prepared to put yourself in the mix then be prepared when it goes wrong. I am sure who smacked him didn't intend on putting him in a coma. I don't see any reactions to other stories of people getting punched. Same incident, different outcomes.

Get well soon, bad luck, no sympathy.

To all those who go on the lash before games this is a cold warning of how things can go wrong!

By all accounts an army lad just back from a tour. Had a few beers refused admission, and probably still pumped up on testosterone from his tour thought Southampton to be an easy target for all his pumped up frustrations.

Having read the article The Echo it appears something happened around 3.30pm. It started inside and went outside. His mate was there by his side but no account of the incident. Don't think too many involved - but it only takes one punch (or blow) to put you in hospital in a coma.

I'm "a couple of pints before the game" sort and on some occassions taken it too far. However I've never been refused admission, never gone drinking in someone elses manor when inebriated, and behaved within the usual standards so not to upset anyone. I'm a lover not a fighter!

Reading between the lines - wrong time, wrong place and wrong person.

Get well soon fella, unfortunately in this world there's always someone to take you down a peg. We all remember we thought we were invincible - some of us aren't! My thoughts go out to your family, girlfriend and mates back in your platoon.

I've seen Saints fans acting like this away from home asking for a slap, and sometimes there is someone only too pleased to assist.

Interesting how the police are describing this as an incident close to a football ground rather than a football related incident!

Agree with this, you look for trouble then expect to get hurt although I don't wish for people to be hospitilised in this way.

I agree 100%. If it turns out he was a total innocent then he would have my greatest sympathy, but from what I gather he was just another gobby welsh drunk giving it the large one and got smacked. Tough sh*t I'm afraid, but it happens all the time.

Not a fan, just a cowardly yob in a pub, takes advantage of a drunk. He'll probably get a few years in jail for his stupidity.

Having seen the later quotes it sounds like he found the trouble he was looking for.

Obviously this is a bad incident and I dont wish this on anyone.... but why all the hysteria on here?

There have been a number of accounts that have highlighted the boy in the pink top as a bit of a *****.

You don't get put in a coma for nothing. Funny that nothing like this occurs when we are at home to Doncaster, Norwich etc.
