THAT Save

Arizona

Recommended Posts

I was sat right behind it and anyone who says it wasn't the save of the season, and quite possibly KDs career, either knows f uck all about goalkeeping or is blind!

He changed direction, got his hand virtually to the ground, the ball was behind him, he managed not only to stop the ball but to get enough on it to flick it to safety. He had absolutley no right to get anywhere near that ball. Incredible.

Perfect summary. I was also sat directly behind it and it was easily the best save I have ever witnessed.

As the orginal poster said , it deserves a thread of its own.

As for the tw @ts that think it was average and that most keepers ould have made, i'd just remind them that drugs are still illegal.

One of the best saves ive ever seen live n 30+ years of watching football.

Nice one Kelvin

I was right behind it and it was as good a save as I've seen in years , for a big man (not in the first flush of youth either) the speed of his reactions are extraordinary .

Glad to see you made it to the game today, Charlie. Not one you would have wanted to miss on account of the jamjar, eh?

Was Vs Aston Villa. Its shown on numerous 'best goalkeeping saves ever' videos on youtube, id put a link but cant be bothered to sift through the videos until i find it

edit: i had a little search and found this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MalC_A3_z7g

Thanks, Spades. I'm indebted to you for taking the trouble. I've never seen it videod before and having seen it again it is even better than I remember, but it still seems as clear in my mind as if it were yesterday.

Let none of these mugs fool yer - it was world class!!!

What made it so impressive was that he had just made a decent save, then had to dive quite a way and get low enough to touch the ball just as it was bouncing, without having time to set himself properly, which is why he sort of dived oddly.

Got to say it was absolutely a world-class save - he had no right getting to it, but he did and it could prove to be the save that save's our season. I was in Kingsland and there were loads of us that gave KD a well deserved standing ovation for two incredible displays of world-class goalkeeping. We are very lucky to have that guy with us still.

I have to admit, before this season I hated Kelvin Davis and wanted to see Bart in goal. But this season he has shown me the best goalkeeping season since 2002-2003 when we had Antti Niemi. Where would we be without him? Bottom.

I remember him making a great save against Charlton when one of their players tried a overhead kick. Great stuff!

Todays two saves had me chanting Super Kelv louder than ever. Butt.. I don't think its the best I have ever seen live. Richard Wright made a fantastic reaction save at The Valley last season.

Well said - KD and Euell have gone from zero to hero in the space of 18 months and they well hold the key to our survival

"Southampton's goal came from a David McGoldrick penalty, but their major star was their keeper, Kelvin Davis. He produced what will surely be one of the best Championship saves of the season - showing great reflexes to palm away a Roger Johnson effort and then somehow readjusting his body to keep out Ross McCormack's follow-up header." - Thats off the guardian website.

Well, if ITV can't be arsed to show it then the OS should now put up a clip pronto.

I saw it close up and still didn't belive he saved that!

Shame it merited ZERO coverage on the Championship this morning

You could try football league highlights on Sky tomorrow at 6.00pm (repeated 11.00pm, 3.00am Tuesday, 9.30am Tuesday and 2.30pm Tuesday). Don't know if it will be shown but I have set my Sky+ to find out.

I admit, I wasn't at the game yesterday, but there's a lot of people w@nking over this save at the moment and comparing it to Banks v Pele.

I really hope it's not in the same league as that simply because Bank's save is probably one of the most over-rated saves in history. I've just watched it again on Youtube, and I can't help but think you see saves like that almost every week on Match of the Day.

Like I said, I wasn't at the game, but I'd like to imagine Davis' was far better.

I too have often thought the Banks save was overrated. The lack of a different camera angle doesn't really help - see it from behind the goal and I think it wouldn't look as good.

wasn't all that, was pretty close to him

What you don't see from that replay is that his body was going in totally the other direction and he quickly had to readjust his position and then get his hand hand....at which point the ball was behind him. Easily the best save I have ever witnessed.

Quality reaction from Davis when he is told about us comparing the save to Banks'.

haha... brilliant. though i think it was put on a little bit what with the "was that enough" at the end of it!

The guys a hero, if not for him we'd be down already
