saint_ed Posted 28 February, 2009 Posted 28 February, 2009 I was sat right behind it and anyone who says it wasn't the save of the season, and quite possibly KDs career, either knows f uck all about goalkeeping or is blind! He changed direction, got his hand virtually to the ground, the ball was behind him, he managed not only to stop the ball but to get enough on it to flick it to safety. He had absolutley no right to get anywhere near that ball. Incredible. Perfect summary. I was also sat directly behind it and it was easily the best save I have ever witnessed.
pilsburydoughboy Posted 28 February, 2009 Posted 28 February, 2009 Got a standing ovation where I was (Kingsland). Don't see that too often... Did you spill your flask of soup
Gemmel Posted 28 February, 2009 Posted 28 February, 2009 As the orginal poster said , it deserves a thread of its own. As for the tw @ts that think it was average and that most keepers ould have made, i'd just remind them that drugs are still illegal. One of the best saves ive ever seen live n 30+ years of watching football. Nice one Kelvin
Stanley Saint Posted 28 February, 2009 Posted 28 February, 2009 Did you spill your flask of soup No, but I lost my page in the mills and boon I was reading. Most distressing.
saints_is_the_south Posted 28 February, 2009 Posted 28 February, 2009 That save was world class. The save a few minutes before that was great but that was just incredible! As soon as it left his head i think we all thought, 'goal'.!
SoccerMom Posted 28 February, 2009 Posted 28 February, 2009 I was right behind it and it was as good a save as I've seen in years , for a big man (not in the first flush of youth either) the speed of his reactions are extraordinary . Glad to see you made it to the game today, Charlie. Not one you would have wanted to miss on account of the jamjar, eh?
samoakley Posted 28 February, 2009 Posted 28 February, 2009 it was one of the best saves i have ever seen defo simlar to pele and banks except peles was probs a lil better because it was pele lol.
Wes Tender Posted 28 February, 2009 Posted 28 February, 2009 Was Vs Aston Villa. Its shown on numerous 'best goalkeeping saves ever' videos on youtube, id put a link but cant be bothered to sift through the videos until i find it edit: i had a little search and found this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MalC_A3_z7g Thanks, Spades. I'm indebted to you for taking the trouble. I've never seen it videod before and having seen it again it is even better than I remember, but it still seems as clear in my mind as if it were yesterday.
Huffton Posted 28 February, 2009 Posted 28 February, 2009 it was one of the best saves i have ever seen defo simlar to pele and banks except peles was probs a lil better because it was pele lol. Yeah! Cause Pele was just the worlds best goalie and then some!!!!
BadgerBadger Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 Love to see it again but doubt we'll get to see it on the Champ tomorrow - outstanding KD we salute you
lumpofshipperley Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 Let none of these mugs fool yer - it was world class!!! What made it so impressive was that he had just made a decent save, then had to dive quite a way and get low enough to touch the ball just as it was bouncing, without having time to set himself properly, which is why he sort of dived oddly.
Saint_clark Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 Did you spill your flask of soup Behave, us in the Kingsland aint too bad. Well, Kingsland North.....
Saint Fan CaM Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 Got to say it was absolutely a world-class save - he had no right getting to it, but he did and it could prove to be the save that save's our season. I was in Kingsland and there were loads of us that gave KD a well deserved standing ovation for two incredible displays of world-class goalkeeping. We are very lucky to have that guy with us still.
Saints foreva Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 I have to admit, before this season I hated Kelvin Davis and wanted to see Bart in goal. But this season he has shown me the best goalkeeping season since 2002-2003 when we had Antti Niemi. Where would we be without him? Bottom. I remember him making a great save against Charlton when one of their players tried a overhead kick. Great stuff! Todays two saves had me chanting Super Kelv louder than ever. Butt.. I don't think its the best I have ever seen live. Richard Wright made a fantastic reaction save at The Valley last season.

Well said - KD and Euell have gone from zero to hero in the space of 18 months and they well hold the key to our survival
saint_bert Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 IMHO if we manage to stay up, that moment will be the moment we look back and say that was the turning point. Absoloutley astonishing save.
SoccerMom Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 Not the save in question, I think (at the chapel end?) but still, says it all about the bloke. Super Kelvin Davis!
trousers Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 Not the save in question, I think (at the chapel end?) but still, says it all about the bloke. Super Kelvin Davis! That is the Chapel end
Bourno Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 I can't believe that they did not show the save on The Champtionship this morning.
Saint_clark Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 Not the save in question, I think (at the chapel end?) but still, says it all about the bloke. Super Kelvin Davis! That looks like the save to me.
trousers Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 I can't believe that they did not show the save on The Champtionship this morning. Well, if ITV can't be arsed to show it then the OS should now put up a clip pronto.
markr27 Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 Looks like it's a wait for the Virgin Media highlights now
T.REX Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 "Southampton's goal came from a David McGoldrick penalty, but their major star was their keeper, Kelvin Davis. He produced what will surely be one of the best Championship saves of the season - showing great reflexes to palm away a Roger Johnson effort and then somehow readjusting his body to keep out Ross McCormack's follow-up header." - Thats off the guardian website.
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 An unbelievable save! Has to be up there with Schmiechal (sp?) and Banks?
Plumstead_Saint Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 I can't believe that they did not show the save on The Champtionship this morning. 2nded. Was Vs Aston Villa. docker-p Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 Even from where i was at the other end it was an astonishing save. Reminded me of one Peter Shilton did at the Milton road end against, I think, Coventry City.
saint_ed Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 That is the Chapel end Yeah, that is definitely the Chapel end because those kids were sat at the front.
musesaint Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 it seemed actually behind him, I saw it close up and still didn't belive he saved that! Shame it merited ZERO coverage on the Championship this morning

Well, if ITV can't be arsed to show it then the OS should now put up a clip pronto. I saw it close up and still didn't belive he saved that! Shame it merited ZERO coverage on the Championship this morning You could try football league highlights on Sky tomorrow at 6.00pm (repeated 11.00pm, 3.00am Tuesday, 9.30am Tuesday and 2.30pm Tuesday). Don't know if it will be shown but I have set my Sky+ to find out.
jawillwill Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 I admit, I wasn't at the game yesterday, but there's a lot of people w@nking over this save at the moment and comparing it to Banks v Pele. I really hope it's not in the same league as that simply because Bank's save is probably one of the most over-rated saves in history. I've just watched it again on Youtube, and I can't help but think you see saves like that almost every week on Match of the Day. Like I said, I wasn't at the game, but I'd like to imagine Davis' was far better.

The lack of a different camera angle doesn't really help - see it from behind the goal and I think it wouldn't look as good.
St.Thomas7 Posted 2 March, 2009 Posted 2 March, 2009 Virgin media has the highllights up now, and the save is on there... it is brilliant...
Saint_clark Posted 2 March, 2009 Posted 2 March, 2009 http://www.football.virginmedia.com/page/Football/Championship/VideoIndex/0,,12555,00.html?mvnAssetId=3748994
Saint_clark Posted 2 March, 2009 Posted 2 March, 2009 Not the best of angles, and the commentator is dreadful (didn't realise we had a player called Sorman or that Perry played in number 7) but it does look awesome from that footage.
tedmaul Posted 2 March, 2009 Posted 2 March, 2009 Cripes I'm a happily married man, but sadly to say I love Kelvin and his heroics ... He seems like a superman, I'm having dreams about him ... It's all a bit strange.
cf saint Posted 2 March, 2009 Posted 2 March, 2009 It was a wonderful save- and as others have said I can't remember the last standing ovation for a save.
eelpie Posted 2 March, 2009 Posted 2 March, 2009 wasnt too far away from him, not the power that pele's had. decent save, but one for the cameras You're a hard man to please.
eelpie Posted 2 March, 2009 Posted 2 March, 2009 thought it was average He could have been standing on his head and blown it away for more entertainment value, I suppose.
JohnnyFartPants Posted 2 March, 2009 Posted 2 March, 2009 It was a load of rubbish to be fair. The only way that save would be half decent is if Lowe left the club.
saint_ed Posted 2 March, 2009 Posted 2 March, 2009 wasn't all that, was pretty close to him What you don't see from that replay is that his body was going in totally the other direction and he quickly had to readjust his position and then get his hand hand....at which point the ball was behind him. Easily the best save I have ever witnessed.
The Majestic Channon Posted 2 March, 2009 Posted 2 March, 2009 This save from our kelv wasn't bad either
Saint_clark Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 Quality reaction from Davis when he is told about us comparing the save to Banks'.

Spades Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 Quality reaction from Davis when he is told about us comparing the save to Banks'. haha... brilliant. though i think it was put on a little bit what with the "was that enough" at the end of it! The guys a hero, if not for him we'd be down already

SW11_Saint Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 and they didn't even show it on The Championship... (not that that surprises me).
