hypochondriac Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 Same old Mike - If its going wrong its Lowe's fault. If its going well its despite Lowe's attempts to make it go wrong. Lowe does not take training, dictate the tactics or pick the team - that is what the head coach does. JP had a reputation for handling young players well, but it didn't work. No two managers are the same, and Wotte does it his way. He has done the obvious which is to change a system that wasn't working. Lowe doesn't come into it, but the problem for some people is that although they want Saints to win, when the team does, its hard to find some other way of criticising Lowe. Wotte has done really well with two tough games at home and now he's got some tough games to come away. But the lads have done well away from home and Wotte is proving to be a good motivator. Its asking a lot for Wotte to deliver two more straight wins, but one would be nice and one plus a draw would be great! As for Lowe, I expect he's very pleased that his appointment of Wotte is looking good so far. The rest of us should feel the same. I just don't want Lowe calling this season a success and taking credit if we stay up. 2/3rds or the season have been a complete and utter failure and much of that is due to Lowe appointing Jan in the first place and IMO sacking Pearson. I am sure that Lowe will try and take the credit for Saving our season butlets not forget that he is the one who wrecked it also.
Saint Bones Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 GUESS WHAT GUYS We Won... twice in a row. Can't we all just enjoy the moment.
Daren W Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 This is a weird thing to say. You see I have never said I am amusing or funny. I find it odd that you would constantly want to tell me I am not funny. Why? You dont constantly tell me other things I am not. You are a befuddling yet also tiresome lowlife form. You see again, you're posting but all i'm reading is blah blah blah blah.... We can obviously add "he thinks he's more intelligent than he really is" to the long list of things we know about JohnnyWetMePants.... Thing is Johnny, I really, really don't give a **** what you think of me. Another faceless, spineless nerd has a pop at me? Not going to lose a wink of sleep there fella. But if you are going to have a pop at least TRY to be either entertaini or halfway intelligent because right now, you're embarrassing.... And we're all laughing at you... But please Johnny... Feel free to entertain/enlighten us.....

Professor Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 I just don't want Lowe calling this season a success and taking credit if we stay up. 2/3rds or the season have been a complete and utter failure and much of that is due to Lowe appointing Jan in the first place and IMO sacking Pearson. I am sure that Lowe will try and take the credit for Saving our season butlets not forget that he is the one who wrecked it also. Sorry Hypo, but this is the dilemma of the anti-Lowe position. By all means criticise Lowe for things he does that you don't agree with, but it is simply illogical to say that Lowe can be blamed for what goes wrong but have no credit at all for what goes right. The anti-Lowe stance will be to say its Lowe's fault if we go down, but if we stay up it will be nothing to do with Lowe and will be despite Lowe's attempts to destroy the club! Sorry to those who think that way, but it just does not make sense. If we stay up, Wotte will have achieved just what Pearson did last year, and with Pearson it could not have been closer to the wire as it needed other teams to lose on the last day to save us. Its too soon to say that Wotte is a great manager, but he is definitely doing OK and if he keeps us up, that will be a great achievement. Lowe will be entitled to claim the credit for appointing him, and for agreeing to the squad changes that have provided more experience once the experiment with youth proved not to be adequate, but it is the coach who takes most of the credit, just as Poortvleit must take most of the blame for the first half of the season, and did, by resigning. Lowe must take responsibility for appointing JP in the first place when it looks as if he should have given the job to Wotte at the outset, but to his credit he changed the decision by letting JP go, when the plan failed. Not sure what more could be asked of any chairman, especially when financial survival is the other priority. If we stay up, I don't care who takes the credit - everyone connected with the club, as far as I'm concerned, made even sweeter by the predictions of relegation and administration by some of the regular posters on here. But it hasn't happened yet, so Come on you Saints, Come on Wotte, Come on Rupert, keep it going!!!!
alpine_saint Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 Is it just me that finds your long and going nowhere post that starts with "blah blah blah" ironic? Its just you. But it hasn't happened yet, so Come on you Saints, Come on Wotte, Come on Rupert, keep it going!!!! Now, you see with that one highlighted part you have just shown why a lot of people don't want Rupert Lowe as chairman anymore. He is the chairman of this football club. Not the manager, not the director of football but chairman. He's there to dot the i's and cross the t's and balance the books. How the team is run is none of his business, not even ours, it's the managers... It's not up to Rupert Lowe to agree to anything. It's up to him to back the manager up with signing or to refuse with signings but it is not his job to have any influence on team matters whatsoever... It's that meddling that many of us feel has got us into this mess and it's high time we had a chairman who just does a job, no more, no less....

Sorry but this has been such a change/reverse in policy any chairman of a normal plc would be under immense pressure to resign for getting the earlier policy so wrong. as JP RESIGNED his removal was not down to Rupert , if he had his way he would still be here. Wotte has done well but as long as Rupert is involved it is only a matter of time before the next crack pot scheme is started
dubai_phil Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 Ignoring the name calling, going back to Professors post, I have some thoughts Lowe is right to take credit for appointing Wotte - IF it works - he could have appointed any number of other options. BUT - if he takes credit for the appointment he MUST also take the blame for the fact that by his POOR appointment of JP he was forced into the position where he HAD to make the change. By THAT token the mistake is doubly compounded - he backed JP's approach to signing and dumping players (or it was his idea anyway) and so when Wotte comes along he has no choice but to again back his way of doing things. So well he may take credit, but I do not believe any fan will grant him any because it was a decision that he had to make becuase of the failing of a critical business decision HE made.
derry Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 Not content with beating the best manager in the worlds record start last week, Wotte has gone on to really do the impossible. Wotte or "Dutch idiot" to his critics must now be on the verge of entering the hall of fame after trashing the best manager ever in the worlds old record. Were you there?
JohnnyFartPants Posted 1 March, 2009 Author Posted 1 March, 2009 Were you there? I am honoured that the facts of the matter hinge on whether I was there or not, at least in your mind.
sadoldgit Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 You do have to laugh though don't you? Wotte was written off by many because - he is Dutch - his has funny hair - he was appointed by Lowe - take your pick. Early days yet but it took Pearson 13 matches to win three games so if Wotte manages better than that I expect to see him given hero status on here!!! Still a long way to go, but fair play to the bloke, so far so good. And to think, we were told how much he was despised at the club by the players!!!!!
aintforever Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 Lets hope Wotte does prove to be a good manager and keep us up like Pearson did. It's not worth getting carried away yet, I remember the same Lowe Luvie mongs on here were hailing Poortvleit as a genius after a couple of friendlies.
JustMike Posted 1 March, 2009 Posted 1 March, 2009 this carp is still going on??? jesus! NP saved us last season...Lowe messed up by getting shot of him / not renewing contract, then appointing JP and dictating who could play. It appears Wotte, however has got more about him and actualy knows what he is doing, no doubt aided by the fact that he IS allowed to play who he wants, but credit where its due so far so good. So it begs the question, why JP in the first place?
saintjay77 Posted 2 March, 2009 Posted 2 March, 2009 while the objective of this thread seems to be the counter argument to some of Stanleys past threads there is a point there. If something good happens while rupes is in charge its widley seen as something to spite him and rarly do the club get any credit for it. Yet when there is something he has screwed up with we are all eager to jump up and down declaring he is the worst chairman we have ever had and so on. he does himself no favours though as when he does mess things up he is ready to blame anyone but himself so why should anyone cut him some slack when he gets things right or wrong? In this case though the Extreme Anti's would only ever win if they managed to get Lowe out of the door while he was in the middle of yet another mess up. Now Wotte is in charge and is appearing to be a positive there will be a few (very few) that will be seething that they cant carry on there mission. Thats when we see the few (very few) that like to bite back while they have the upper hand. Most of the general saints fans views lay somewhere in between the OP and the extreme Anti's and the forum would probably do well to stay clear of the more extreme ends of the argument.
wild-saint Posted 2 March, 2009 Posted 2 March, 2009 Surely if we stay up, and have massively cut costs from last year avoiding adminstration and giving a base on which to rebuild it would not indeed be a success? Regardless of how /who we done it?
Alain Perrin Posted 2 March, 2009 Posted 2 March, 2009 Ignoring the name calling, going back to Professors post, I have some thoughts Lowe is right to take credit for appointing Wotte - IF it works - he could have appointed any number of other options. BUT - if he takes credit for the appointment he MUST also take the blame for the fact that by his POOR appointment of JP he was forced into the position where he HAD to make the change. So well he may take credit, but I do not believe any fan will grant him any because it was a decision that he had to make becuase of the failing of a critical business decision HE made. Lowe had to make a decision and be judged by it - as opposed to having the gift of 20:20 hindsight / hypocrisy that many posters seem to have on here! What came before, influences today. The drastic (no other word for it) cut in the playing staff wages through playing youth, has presumably enabled the club to afford some of the high earners in the later part of the season (that and it is really **** or bust time). I know people like Um Pahars will argue that the player mix could have been different, but the question to me is did the percentage cut need to be as savage as it was? Was Lowe trying to solve the financial problem too quickly? I've said it before, but I think it is worth repeating. There is no point playing Saga all season and staying up by 9 pts, only to be relegated because his wages tip us into a ten point administration reduction. It's a balancing act that Lowe has to deliver on, and IF he gets it right this season then we should give him credit for it.
Greenridge Posted 2 March, 2009 Posted 2 March, 2009 .... It's a balancing act that Lowe has to deliver on, and IF he gets it right this season then we should give him credit for it. And there is the crux of it AP. No-one on this site, absolutely no-one KNOWS what the finite financial position of the club is at this moment in time. We have heard that Crouch's plan to the banks was accepted by them and that it was inferred that the cost-cutting didn't not need to be as severe and deep as Lowe has implemented this season but again we just do not know the facts of the matter, this of course is coupled with the deepening global crisis and pressure on the banking system so the situation is fluid. To your last point though I am as sure as you can be in this scenario that the banks will support the club to stay in the CCC rather than drop to Lge 1 where they can almost certainly kiss goodbye to their investment. There is no way they would pull the plug in the example you have given.
Foxstone Posted 2 March, 2009 Posted 2 March, 2009 I just don't want Lowe calling this season a success and taking credit if we stay up. 2/3rds or the season have been a complete and utter failure and much of that is due to Lowe appointing Jan in the first place and IMO sacking Pearson. If we stay up ALL the credit will go to Wotte, his staff and the team. None due to any board member past or present.
Window Cleaner Posted 2 March, 2009 Posted 2 March, 2009 I wondered if maybe Wotte didn't want the first team head coach job with only a team of youngsters on offer.Perhaps he didn't really fancy all the hassle with Euell,Saga,Rasiak,John,Rudi etc knowing that he couldn't keep them. We all blame Lowe for appointing Jan instead of Wotte who seems a bit more apt but perhaps it was the other way round. Perhaps Wotte needed a job but just didn't fancy all the hassle for very little money.
Torrent Of Abuse Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 How come if you are a depressing half wit you can come on here and say your bit of doom and gloom and not expect to be reminded of it if you were wrong? I see what you mean, but the very point you're making should tell you why you're getting such a negative reaction. It is indeed as annoying when someone is smug after a 2 match winning streak as it is when someone is smug after a 2 match losing streak. It hardly needed its own thread to work that one out. You don't win any prizes for out w**kering a w**ker, I'm afraid. The trouble with the moral high ground is it only serves a purpose when you're actually on it. If you get down off it simply to thumb your nose at someone, then you automatically lose the argument.
saintjay77 Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 Correct. If we stay up ALL the credit will go to Wotte, his staff and the team. None due to any board member past or present. Im not disagreeing with you or Hypo but I dont see how this can be right. We are happy to blame the board when things go wrong but they dont eget any credit when things go right? I wouldnt say this season is a success no matter where we end up from now but if the target is to survive and always has been this season then if we manage it the target has been met. Success would IMO be mid table and upwards and we have no chance of that. But where we were obviously heading for Relegation the blame ay firmly at Rupes feet. Now we have a hint of surviving it has nothing to do with Rupes? Cant have it both ways IMO. Rupes/Board made mad decissions and the team didnt perform put us in the mess. Rupes/Board 2nd plan appears to work better and the team are now performing. Blame and Praise should be aimed more at the team than the board.

Im about to go for a swim regards TDD
Victor Posted 3 March, 2009 Posted 3 March, 2009 Oh, the irony. If we stay up because Woote has been pragmatic and adopted a style that suits the demands of this league - and I now believe we will stay up - the person who can really claim the credit is Poortvliet! Poortvliet walked, remember, because he felt he couldn't do it and let someone he felt could, takeover. Nothing to do with Rupert, who was happy with things as they were ......apparently!
Window Cleaner Posted 14 March, 2009 Posted 14 March, 2009 So much for the Dutch clown being good. Explain this to me Stanley ,if you can overcome your blatant racism for 2 minutes, how can Wotte control Surman missing a sitter in each of 2 consecutive matches? Are you saying that if we had an english manager he wouldn't have missed them? football comes down to that, a missed chance and you're f*cked. that's nothing to do with the coach or manager, you can't coach an experienced player to strike a ball in the right direction.

I am sure that where Stanley is concerned any English manager is superior to a Dutchman ,thus the racist aspect; Rascism being that the man is unqualified for the position by nature of his nationality. If you read Stanley's posts (and I'm sure that most of you don't )you'll see that I'm right. And to prove my point here is a little bijou from Stanley on 25 th February last 1. He's arrogant. 2. He's Dutch. 3. He's a w4nker. Let's clear this up once and for all. I want Lowe Out and i want Lowes cronie (who happens to be Dutch) Out. If Lowes cronie was English i'd want him out. If Pearson was Dutch i'd want him in. This really has nothing to do with race or my imperialist outlook.
