Professor Posted 20 August, 2008 Share Posted 20 August, 2008 Since the European Championship all I've been getting from my 7 year-old, who has ever Saints home kit for the last 3 cycles, and has been to SMS many times, is that "Saints are shiiit, I'm going to support Manyoo from now on because Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney are so good". I've told him he either supports Saints, or his local team here FC Austria Kaernten (he was born out here anyway), or he's been to his last game....... I haven't noticed anyone else commenting on the irony of this. If Alpine St talks about Saints to his son in the same way that he talks to us here on this board, I wonder what could possibly have influenced the boy to dislike the club? WheresRory Posted 21 August, 2008 Share Posted 21 August, 2008 Glory supporters just show a complete lack of character and backbone. They'll never understand how I felt when we won the cup and I pity them more than anything. I have far more respect for those I see wearing Saints shirts than the usual suspects I see around town. You can't help where you're born and football teams are named after places after all. A Pompey fan in peace!

Big ASSumption from you there - I dont. I continually defend the club when he criticises. Sorry to piiss on your bonfire... Amazing that certain individuals of limited intellect cannot grasp the fact that although some may be viewed as negative, they are clearly as equally passionate about the club as the happy-clappers... gandalf Posted 21 August, 2008 Share Posted 21 August, 2008 It can all change. When younger(now 17) my son supported Man u, they had just done the triple and so were the idols of all impressionable youngsters. I soon cured this by taking him to a Saints game and he has been a passionate supporter ever since. He has a season ticket and because he is now driving he is also going to away games, his first long trip being to Cardiff. Obviously we would all like to be playing in the premiership but this should not detract from the team that you support whatever division.

eurosaint Posted 21 August, 2008 Share Posted 21 August, 2008 I have 2 teams : a) Partick Thistle (birth) b) Saints (marriage/geography) Strangely I have never been accused of being a 'glory hunter' ! My 3 kids (living in Surrey, Cape Town and Brussels) are all Saints fans based on family tradition ! The only negativity comes from 'er indoors' (Southampton born and bred!) who constantly whines on about us supporting a bunch of deadbeats, at great cost both financially and emotionally! TBF she knows F all about football but (although I would never admit it) maybe sometimes she has a point !!!
