St Marco Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 Firstly this is in no way shape or form based on those who run the website. Think we all appreciate the hard work that goes into keeping the website up and running. Without them we would not have a place to share our views. I was just curious to know if people are a bit fed up with the way the forum has gone? In the sense most threads end up turning into a tit for tat name calling exercise rather then actually anything Saints related. Most threads seem to be dominated by 3 or 4 posters who say the same things over and over, while a lot of the old posters who i feel are respected by the community have vanished. or simply stopped posting. So whats going on where have you all got too? Should people be getting banned like the old days to discourage the behaviour? Or is it connected to the feelings of where the club is at right now, have you simply lost interested in the whole club?
londonsaint1604 Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 It's still better than doing work though.
ladysaint Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 It all seems too serious for me at the moment, in the olden days it used to be a lot more fun but so much more infighting goes on now, just like the club really,
Johnny Bognor Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 (edited) A little bit, hence I spend a bit more time in the lounge / arcade to get my fivers worth (see new MJ Baby Drop Champion) Edited 26 February, 2009 by Johnny Bognor

St Marco Posted 26 February, 2009 Author Posted 26 February, 2009 (see new MJ Baby Drop Champion) Good job
Alanh Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 Yep, this forum is much more boring now because football is very rarely discussed and the vast majority of threads are about the board and the overall positions of every poster on hasn't changed for the last 6 months, so everything is a bit repetitive. Everyone is entitiled to their opinion, but there are a few domineering, abusive posters whose opinions are so negative on just about every aspect of the club that the board is not as enjoyable as it was.
eurosaint Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 The forum reflects the mood of the moment, it's a bit like market forces in the economy ! If we were flying high the talk would be about goals, players, signings, league position etc.. The fact is that we are in the mire and those deemed responsible are tarnished with underachievement/incompetence, therefore negativity takes over ! It's the way of the world I'm afraid and only improved performance or outright takeover will change it ! I post less than before but still scour the site for the odd snippet which might make me better informed about the club (sad I know, but reality!).

Toadhall Saint Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 It's becoming a place full of ******s with axes to grind - football has started to come second to politics.
lamanga Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 Also used to read everything line for line, now my eyes are going potty scanning just the first couple of lines of each post to see what it has to say. (Which means if you are like me you are no longer reading these words.. ..but you are. How freaky)
Daren W Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 It all seems too serious for me at the moment, in the olden days it used to be a lot more fun but so much more infighting goes on now, just like the club really, Jan, half the time I reckon some people on here wouldn't recognise a Saints footballer if they kicked them in the balls. Once the results improve, and I think they will under Wotte, then we'll all start talking football again.

I think this sums it up, the doom and gloom amongst our freefall from grace has hit home to quite a few. Still a win on Saturday should cheer a few up.

The ironic thing of course being that those most vocal with their opinions are the ones who have made no effort to watch us on a regular basis either, yet their opinion is expected to be taken as gospel, whilst those with differing opinions and those who actually turn up regularly and have a valid opinion get shouted down. I think this is the reason its not the same forum as it used to be. There was once a time when this forum was a place for decent banter and good FOOTBALLING conversation but these days its more about political points scoring and people constantly using the tiniest piece of information released by various sources to reinforce their side of the argument.

So true. Those that don't go seem to be the ones that write the loudest unlike those that go to the games who try to shout the loudest - I wonder which has the best chance of making a difference to our league position?
Junction 9 Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 Without a doubt. It's full of people who are utterly obsessed with SFC.

Those that don't go seem to be the ones that write the loudest unlike those that go to the games who try to shout the loudest - I wonder which has the best chance of making a difference to our league position? That has been evident on a few occasions by certain posters but overall the ones in attendance get their points across. I think the main problem at the moment is how the club is run. A lot of threads head to the same theme and until our fortunes change then this will be the norm. Still there are one or two threads which are entertaining and lighthearted.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 The mods do hand out some ridiculous infractions - this ruins it for me of late!

Still there are one or two threads which are entertaining and lighthearted. Agreed, I post much less than I did and, on the whole, I find the arguments repetitive (although sometimes I can't help but be dragged into them). Too much abuse and too little thought - decrying people's opinions as 'stupid' because they happen to be different. I think though it is a lowest common denominator kind of thing, intelligent posts get dragged down into a swirl of "lowe luvvies" and "crouch ****heads". One poster, who I always thought made some good points, even though he/she held different views to me, has recently become far more aggressive and sanctimonious. I can only assume it is because of this - there can't be any reason why someone can become an offensive ****ing ****-sucking ****** with the opinions of **** overnight, can there? That said, there is still fun to be had, that sheep sh@gger's post about "Is this racisist?" made me laugh out loud.
lordswoodsaints Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 just the same way as success on the field will start to attract the attention of the stay aways it will also follow for this board.
krissyboy31 Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 I think this sums it up, the doom and gloom amongst our freefall from grace has hit home to quite a few. Still a win on Saturday should cheer a few up. Not Stanley!
Mowgli Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 Has anyone else noticed that the main culprits are absent fron this thread
Mole Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 Not Stanley! While Lowe remains at the club there will always be a dark clowd hanging over Saints.
Alain Perrin Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 While Lowe remains at the club there will always be a dark clowd hanging over Saints. Well thought out contribution
Fan The Flames Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 The site is great. I think Eurosaint is right. The same arguments keep occurring because whilst we are in this mess people views will not be easily changed, for every anti Lowe poster there's a poster typing the same old positive lies about Rupes, for every entrenched anti Lowe there is an entrenched Lowe luvvie. Posts come along like the car one today that lighten the mood, so maybe those fed up could start a few more threads like this. Only when we are out of this mess will people compromise their views.
saintwarwick Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 Not Stanley! There's always an exception!
Fan The Flames Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 Has anyone else noticed that the main culprits are absent fron this thread Dont worry Canteen Sundance and his chums will be along soon.
TheSaint75 Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 Unfortunately apathy reigns with many involved with Saints and the constant bickering and negativity on here does mean I look a lot less than I used to, as has been mentioned it is the usual culprits, some don't realise there isn't just a right and wrong way in football it's opinions that make it a great game to follow........well it used to be:)
St Marco Posted 26 February, 2009 Author Posted 26 February, 2009 See i wonder if the club being in the situation it is currently in is actually to blame for it. Reason i think that is because even when we were doing well in the prem league i recall threads on S4E very similar to what we have now. While the atmosphere will naturally be better when the club is doing good on the pitch there will always be people who will find something to argue about. The way i see it every situation possible will bring a different set of things to disagree with each other for. For example when we were in our playoff season people (me included) would argue at what our 1st team should be. We would argue about those types of things, we are all different and thus we will all disagree with somethings. Even if we were world champions there will be something to argue about. But that is called "having a discussion". We discuss our views, that is the point of a forum. What we see recently i would say is more down to people's behaviour and egos. Disagreeing for the sake of disagreeing, wanting to cause problems. As mentioned it is only a few people who are like this but all it takes is one remark and it degenerates another thread. There will always be people like that, just in my view they seem a lot more rampant now.
trousers Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 Yes. Must start a new rumour. wightman35 Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 Four wins in a row for Saints and a realistic promise of a takeover(preferably by next FRIDAY) and this forum would be sparkling!
NickG Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 This was my suggestion on another thread to simplify the forum and maybe contain some of the bickering what about running a few stickies with quite open titles? e.g Views on current board This would cover your point and the many others. Protests organised ones, past ones, ideas, comments on Ideas / suggestions for future ownership/board general discussions, ideas, wishes Then the rest of the forum people can still start new threads for football comment, news, also any new on the board (rather than just our normal debate) such as OS stuff, Crouch's comments in press, even the trust release. Not given stickies much thought but just an idea?

sadoldgit Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 The negativity is a killer. Also those with agendas and fixed ideas who keep banging on about them day after day after day after day.... When it comes right down to it, this is a football club. Nothing more nothing less. It is run by people who go to work like us and make decisions like us and who make mistakes like us. You should be able to come on ad have som elight hearted banter about things, but no, it is now much more serious than adolescent knife crime, the failing economy or Global warming. There used to be a joy in supporting a football club, even when things were not going well. Now it is as depressing as one of Alpine many negative threads.

And just when it was going so well, and you were discussing the subject in a detatched manner....you simply cannot help yourself, can you ? I'd get something done about that obsession - you have as many issue and agendas as anyone else, and your contributions in these parts arent particularly humourous or light-hearted either...
gjphilsaint Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 Yes getting fed up with the pettyness of it all. It no longer seems to be about Saints anymore but who can get the ****yest (sp) response. More often than not threads get off the subject quickly and turn into slanging matches. New threads started that are in direct opposition to established ones and cliques taking sides to wind each other up. Sadly I dont think I shall be putting by another £5 next season to be subjected to it all.
alpine_saint Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 The attendance piissing contest thing has become a petty, obsessive dig for some too. Other issues have taken some of us away from our home town or our country, like doing the best for our kid's upbringings or following work that is scarce on-the-ground.. Why does that mean we arent allowed to express our opinions, negative or otherwise, about the team we have supported our entire lives ?
Berkhamsted Saint Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 Many fans I know dont visit this site as much these days. Two main reasons firstly the constant stream of Lowe/Wilde out threads dominated by the same posters with little new to contribute. A small number of posters with clear agendas who try and take over every thread to make the same point time and time again. The second point is that on the rare occassions when football is discussed the threads are dominated by people who clearly havent been near SMS let alone an away game in a long time but claim to know far more about Saints and the match than anyone who actually went to the game. A great shame really as S4E and this site in its early days were superb.

What are these "agendas" you refer to ? 2. Can you explain how it is that some many posters on here, who have gone to SMS an "acceptable" amount of times in your eyes, have been so utterly deluded about the progress of the team for the first two-thirds of this season ? EDIT - third question. What's actually new about your complaining either ?
Toomer Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 The board could do with a good old fashioned Soul Cellar thread.

Boris Karloff Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 I used to check by every day, now it's once every week or so. I'm not a fan of Lowe, but I'm bored that every single post descends into Lowe Out. I can understand why, but it has ruined the board and I would much rather it was football-based than Lowe-based.
alpine_saint Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 Y do I read this and think Alpine!? Then perhaps you can answer the questions I responded with ?
Ponty Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 I'm getting fed up of having to read the same old diatribe from the same people, degenerating into the same insult-hurling crud as every other thread. That said, I really believe that it's a symptom of the club rather than the forum. The very same people have been responsible for some very good threads during the more positive times at SFC. However, this place is such a good opportunity to vent frustrations that it would be hard to imagine it not serving that purpose. I just wish everyone could be a bit nicer about it.
docker-p Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 I'm loosing huge interest in this site. There seems to be so many posters on here who just want to discuss who was the Saints best inside right of all time, or their ten best card games to play on the Travel Club coach; while happily ignoring that we are a our lowest ebb for 50 years and about to go bust. But lets not talk about the chairmen eh?
