skintsaint Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/c/cardiff_city/7911552.stm Lets hope they are missing a few first teamers.
alpine_saint Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 I'd rather we went out and made our own luck with a convincing performance than relying on the opposition suffering misfortune, to be honest.
skintsaint Posted 26 February, 2009 Author Posted 26 February, 2009 we need any help we can to be honest and this might help us a bit. And I would take an unconvincing 1-0 win.
alpine_saint Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 I agree in the final analysis, I just think a rousing performance is more likely to carry us forward to get the other results we also need to stay up.
Ponty Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 Alpine, I think your kids may have logged onto your account. There's a distinctly suspicious use of a happy smiley in eveidence.
JohnnyFartPants Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 I think we will win this game to be honest. The omens look good so far. Saga is in form, they have players out and we are "on a roll" at home!!
ottery st mary Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 COYR 3-1 win and no messing around. Please.
Doctoroncall Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 The trouble is those that come into the Cardiff side want to do well to stay in the playing eleven. If it's the in-form players injured then we will have little excuse not to beat them.
labibs Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 I think a lot of these players will still make the game, it's a bit of smoke and mirrors from Jones. If Johnson is out, that would be a massive boost for us, he is one of the best centre-backs in the league.
slickmick Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 Bothroyd is the player they miss most going by what their fans are saying on 606.
rooney Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 If we should play like we did against PNE of course we will win. This will mean JE being awkward against the defenders and Size having a strong game at Centre Back again. Above all we must continue to get the ball first.
SaintDonkey Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 Whilst it would be lovely to win every game on the merit of our performance alone it doesn't hurt to have a slice of luck - especially against one of the best teams in the division. In an ideal world the injured 'form' players get picked any way and clearly struggle and have to be subbed. The subs will be demoralized by the feeling that they can't even get into the starting 11 past an injured player and play half heartedly. Now all we need is a guaranteed goal scorer against Dave Jones managed sides. Claus strap your boots on for one last game would you?
saints_is_the_south Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 Maybe the best time to play Cardiff then. hopefully these players are out & we play like we did against Preston. If all this happens i'd reckon 2-1 Saints.
rallyboy Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 Three points earned in any manner will do me fine. At the cup semi final the bloke next to me went to the loo and missed our first goal, on his return he said 'was it a good goal?' Did we care? No. Take the points against their third team if required, just take them, even if it is the worst performance ever, just take them.
Junior Mullet Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 Does anyone else wonder why Alpine went all the way to Austria just to log on to Saints Web all day every day?
alpine_saint Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 Does anyone else wonder why Alpine went all the way to Austria just to log on to Saints Web all day every day? As if...
eelpie Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 I hope Chopra isn't playing. I seem to remember him scoring opportinistic goals against us in the past.
Dannyboy_Saint Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 Im pretty sure he hasnt actually scored against us while at Cardiff. He did run down the whole length of the Northam screaming in delight when they got that late equaliser to make it 2-2 in an evening game a few seasons back though.
saint_ed Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 I remember this fixture last year when the pressure was on us to beat Cardiff at home. We were dreading the likes of Hasselbaink and Fowler tearing us apart, but we ran out eventual winners. I predict the same this weekend. COYR.
Junior Mullet Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 Im pretty sure he hasnt actually scored against us while at Cardiff. He did run down the whole length of the Northam screaming in delight when they got that late equaliser to make it 2-2 in an evening game a few seasons back though. I remember that vividly and thought at the time how much restraint the saints fans were showing. Pretty sure that was in injury time and probably not far off last kick of the game.
slickmick Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 Whenever we play a weakened team or a team with nothing to play for, we always seem to end up losing it. Last season Burnley were the only game out of our last 5 that had no importance to them and that was the only one of those five we lost. Then there was, thee Man Utd game last of season ect ect.
Um Bongo Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 Cardiff are the in form team in the championship at the moment. Beat them, and maybe, just maybe, things will be a touch brighter.
Toomer Posted 26 February, 2009 Posted 26 February, 2009 I would take a 1 - 0 win with one going in off D Mc arse in the 90th min.
St Landrew Posted 27 February, 2009 Posted 27 February, 2009 I would take a 1 - 0 win with one going in off D Mc arse in the 90th min. Jeez, I'd take a 1-0 win in the 93rd minute, with one being deflected off the ref's arse, when being cleared by a Cardiff defender.
Dannyboy_Saint Posted 27 February, 2009 Posted 27 February, 2009 I wonder if that goal would be allowed to stand if it did cannon off the refs arse from a defenders clearance? You'd go mad if it was your team that had conceeded as its bad enough when the ref gets in the way in the middle of the park let alone in the 6 yard box.
skintsaint Posted 27 February, 2009 Author Posted 27 February, 2009 Cant see why not, seem to remember a few goals going in off the ref in those dodgy blooper videos you used to get for xmas.
Greedyfly Posted 27 February, 2009 Posted 27 February, 2009 Sure it would. Perfectly legal. I still recall it being rumoured that it would be legal if a fan managed to get onto the pitch and score. Though I can't remember if that was a ridiculous bar conversation or said by anyone with even the slightest knowledge of football. My money is on the former but you never know, it's out there for debate now.
david in sweden Posted 27 February, 2009 Posted 27 February, 2009 I'd rather we went out and made our own luck with a convincing performance than relying on the opposition suffering misfortune, to be honest. Look at it this way, Alpine....OUR injury list has been pretty bad at times, too. Starting with Michael Svensson, (and Thomas already out), then Lee Holmes....Lallana (and others) have all had spells in the treatment room. Injuries are part and parcel of a season....along with missed penalties and shots hitting the woodwork (like Bris. City game) and personally in our present situation .. I don't care if we play Weymouth Reserves and get 3 points - it all helps. In the last 45 years as a fan, I've seen some great football (and we all like to watch that)... in games where we've come away with nothing....and others where we didn't deserve anything ...and yet got all the points ! Let's not look to win every game with "purist " football ..just get the points! COYR !!!!
