JohnnyFartPants Posted 25 February, 2009 Share Posted 25 February, 2009 I was informed just before it started last night that it was going to be a show where everyone in it would be black for just one episode. Why couldn't they have just gone and done it without announcing that? By announcing it they leave the door open for people to ask if there will be a "white only" show soon and what the merits would be to either scenario. My own personal thought is that it didn't need to happen but it will be yet again considered totally acceptable to do this for a minority group but God forbid you do it the other way. If by that you mean that a big 'thing' is made of it rather then letting people get on and watch the episode I agree. It's rediculous self gratifying sh*t the way organisations can come over as holier then thou just because they have played an equality card. SuperMikey Posted 25 February, 2009 Share Posted 25 February, 2009 I watched the show, and they touched on some issues in that show that were quite delicate. Like the Notting Hill Riots in the fifties. I know they happened a long time ago, but I doubt that Ian Beale would be the best person to have to explain all that. anothersaintinsouthsea Posted 25 February, 2009 Share Posted 25 February, 2009 On the other hand there have been countless episodes where there have only been white characters in Eastenders. Which, when you consider the ethnic mix of the real east of London, is much more of an eye brow raiser than having an all black episode.

Wiltshire Saint Posted 25 February, 2009 Share Posted 25 February, 2009 Yes, I agree. It is so rare to see programmes where the entire cast is white nowadays. When we will see an all white programme? This country really has gone to the dogs. Bloody PC loony left BBC b*llocks.

Kaiser Soze Posted 25 February, 2009 Share Posted 25 February, 2009 I like Eastenders but I completely switched off after five minutes yesterday. The whole programme was a farce. Who gives a feck about friggin Patrick and his sham of a family, to bring up story lines from over 50 years ago is ludicrous and desperate. The script writers should be shot. If they have anymore black attack episodes like yesterday I can't say I will be watching it for much longer. Political correctness gone mad. If I was watching an episode of Roots and getting engrossed in the abolition of slavery and how black families struggled against the wrongful system, I would fully expect to see many blacks in the TV programme and I would not be at all surprised to see an episode featuring an entirely black cast. If one week they slipped it out into the public domain that this week would be an entirely white cast and they all sat around discussing "white problems" for the entire programme, I would be scratching my head in pretty much the same manner I was at the ludicrous Eastenders episode. Yes, this would be the same, as Eastenders is a show about white people and white people's issues. Neither is it a programme about black peoples issues from half a centry ago, although this ticks many more boxes in PC Britain so becomes justified. People are jumping up and down about perceived rascism in case some people are offended, but feel free to call me, a person that they don`t know and who`s actual views they have no idea about "a rascist ****" and "a stupid, stupid ****" and think that THAT`S NOT offensive! I have posted nothing remotely rascist (please check) and am most certainly not a rascist. I am, however, a great believer in freedom of speech and the ability to discuss and sensibly debate ANY subject. I know that this will not enough for some of the small minded inverted bigots on here so just to make you wet your pants, I am a homophobic, rascist paedophile who eats fluffy kittens for breakfast. The only people who will get offended by this are racists and no-one (should) care what they think. I suppose what I am really trying to say is I hate the way organisations (BBC is typical of this) feel too scared to tell minority groups that they are not interested. There seems to be a compulsion to "play ball" with every single minority group in case it rears up and gives you a good kicking. The exact opposite seems to be the case from majority groups. If I was a black, lesbian, amputee, single mother with a runny nose I would get the world on a stick.
