Deppo Posted 24 February, 2009 Share Posted 24 February, 2009 I usually support the British teams in Europe (with the exception of Pompey) but I think I want Inter to win tonight. Man U are ****ing me off more than usual this season.

Papa Shango Posted 24 February, 2009 Share Posted 24 February, 2009 Normally I'd think Man United would go through, but they don't have Vidic tonight, who IMO has been the player of the season. Mourinho to get another lucky win over Sir Alex then, just like he did with Porto when United had a perfectly good goal from Scholes ruled out. Saintandy666 Posted 24 February, 2009 Share Posted 24 February, 2009 (edited) Naaaaaa, I want Man U to do the quadruple or whatever this season, then Fergie can retire. Would be a good way to end his career. Then they can be ****. Edited 24 February, 2009 by Saintandy666

Ponty Posted 24 February, 2009 Share Posted 24 February, 2009 I want United to win all 4 trophies this season, for exactly the same reason as Saintandy - finally seeing the back of Fergie and the hopeful collapse of United.
Saint Martini Posted 24 February, 2009 Share Posted 24 February, 2009 I just want Ibrahimovic to show what a quality player he is in a match people in the UK actually watch. He's so underrated in the UK its unbelievable.

Thirded. I severely dislike fergie. I don't know why people think manure will still be successful when he leaves. They just won't be the same or as consistent. Hatch Posted 25 February, 2009 Share Posted 25 February, 2009 I just want Ibrahimovic to show what a quality player he is in a match people in the UK actually watch. He's so underrated in the UK its unbelievable. He has been crap in every game I have seen him play. Club or International. Might have scored a great goal on occasions but would have been useless for the other 89.5 minutes of the match.
Dark Munster Posted 19 March, 2009 Share Posted 19 March, 2009 There is a 1/35 chance of having all 4 English teams being drawn in one half of the quarter-finals (guaranteeing only two English semifinalists, and only one English finalist). Platini would absolutely love to have that happen, but he would have a hard time convincing people the draw wasn't rigged (especially after last year's quarter-final draw was apparently leaked on a Liverpool forum). So if Platini could choose the draw (which of course he can't ), what do you reckon he would do? I think he might consider this: Man Utd. v. Liverpool Chelsea v. Villareal Barcelona v. Porto Arsenal v. Bayern This gives Barcelona the easiest match, and puts the weakest (on paper) English team with 3 non-English teams. But that would perhaps be too similar to last year's draw (so again may look very suspicious), so I think this is how he would like it come out: Man Utd. v. Liverpool Chelsea v. Villareal Barcelona v. Arsenal Porto v. Bayern Porto and Villareal could be switched, but Villareal may have a better chance of an upset or two against the English teams, and he wouldn't want to jeopardize Barcelona's passage to the final with a potential all-Spanish semi-final. St Landrew Posted 19 March, 2009 Share Posted 19 March, 2009 I usually support the British teams in Europe (with the exception of Pompey) but I think I want Inter to win tonight. Man U are ****ing me off more than usual this season. I don't tend to want someone else down, but I'll make an exception with ManU. They've played the Busby Babe, oh dear, we've crashed in a Munich Airport snowstorm for far too long. Yes it was awful. Yes, I probably have a problem with it. But RIP. They're quick enough to exploit it, time and again, at every opportunity. It was slightly before my time and, as a football supporter, I grew up knowing about it. But we don't go down on bended knee in homage to them every time their name is mentioned. LeGod knows how they got to be the world's favourite team, probably through some good PR, which included that Munich crash, because nobody thought so in my time, and there are plenty of teams as worthy in terms of success, which should be the only arbiter. Am I bitter..? Probably. Perhaps I just don't like bandwagon mentality, which has people like the sprinter Usain Bolt looking forward to watching HIS TEAM next May in Manchester. No doubt he'll get a couple of games in the directors area. But it's all bull really. And it just shows how far football has removed itself from its roots. Off topic I know, but on a similar note I had the misfortune to be in front of a box at the FA Cup match which contained particularly ignorant Mancs. One of them took delight in mocking our chants of 'Only One Bobby Stokes with comments about him being dead etc etc. Yet, didn't seem to have an answer when I asked how he'd feel if we were crud enough to say the same thing about the Munich air crash. Just a bunch of smug, arrogant b******s. And for that reason, I hope they crash out in the quarter finals, and go on a losing streak for the rest of the season. The same with Arsenal, actually... hamster Posted 19 March, 2009 Share Posted 19 March, 2009 On Saturday, teh Man U being batterd by Liverpool result was very well received. They simply never have had and never will have a special place in football fans hearts. People respected (and still do) what the likes of Liverpool and Notts Forest acheived in years gone by, mainly due to the way in which they did it. They genuinely were representatives of the rest of the English clubs and they made you feel proud.

Or Derby County, Notts Forest, Everton... All teams, honestly better than others with no favour or foul, during their time. But I'm damned if this ManU club is worth all the clamour it gets. hamster Posted 19 March, 2009 Share Posted 19 March, 2009 Those teams had the blueprint for what every fan wanted their club to be in my opinion. I, like every young lad having a kickabout in the park, was envious of the teams that you mention. I can say hand on heart that I would never, ever want to see my clubs resemble the Man U of today. Obviously I do not mean the trophies, but the arrogance and that something about them, that is hard to put into words, it's nauseous. It makes decent men and women act out of character, even my football neutral wife can't stand Man U or the mention of their name. Man U is a weird modern day football phenomina that we all have to live with unfortunately.

Man U is a weird modern day football phenomina that we all have to live with unfortunately. It's media and business led mate. There's no real foundation for it all. I pity the true ManU fans, if there are any left alive. Well I would if the club that used to be theirs didn't win so much all the bloody time. But the world clamour that stalks ManU, and hence this sport we love, is as hollow as a thin-walled tube.
