krissyboy31 Posted 24 February, 2009 Posted 24 February, 2009 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/articles/article.php?page_id=11412 Anyone know whether this made the club any money or was it just a prestige thing?
Nineteen Canteen Posted 24 February, 2009 Posted 24 February, 2009 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/articles/article.php?page_id=11412 Anyone know whether this made the club any money or was it just a prestige thing? It cost the government £200,000 for their away day so can only assume we would have received a portion of that. Probably 90% though was on peak time first class rail travel.
Channon's Sideburns Posted 24 February, 2009 Posted 24 February, 2009 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/articles/article.php?page_id=11412 Anyone know whether this made the club any money or was it just a prestige thing? I did text Julian Clegg on Solent yesterday concerning Brown's visit...he didn't read it out. It did say...'Perhaps Brown is in Southampton to thank Rupert Lowe for showing him that someone was more unpopular than himself' Perhaps I was right....!
dubai_phil Posted 24 February, 2009 Posted 24 February, 2009 Gordon Brown in talks at Southampton OMG that has to be the ONLY way getting rid of Lowe gets worse Damn didn't see us being nationalised as an option (Oh maybe I should have read the article first)
OldNick Posted 24 February, 2009 Posted 24 February, 2009 Ive seen some real s#### at SMS this season but he beats the lot.I suspect BTF was wetting her knicks at him being there. No doubt she arranged for his visit.
Gingeletiss Posted 24 February, 2009 Posted 24 February, 2009 I have to laugh:smt082:smt082:smt082 I work in the docks, and for three days, there was a burger van at 101 berth..............I have this image!!!!!!!!!!!:smt082:smt082
Saint Bowood Posted 24 February, 2009 Posted 24 February, 2009 Dear Gordon A small favour if you will.... In your role as PM you travel around the country, and the world, and meet many rich, powerful and influential people. I wonder if you'd mind in future letting them know that there is a football club here, badly mis-managed in recent times that has massive potential, and is available at a very reasonable price. Oh and as you witnessed first hand - the catering is great too! Failing that perhaps you could temporarily nationalise the club, invest a little to re-establish premiership status and when restored to its former glories - sell at a massive profit to the taxpayer. many thanks etc.......
Calvin Posted 24 February, 2009 Posted 24 February, 2009 I have to laugh:smt082:smt082:smt082 I work in the docks, and for three days, there was a burger van at 101 berth..............I have this image!!!!!!!!!!!:smt082:smt082 I will be back working down the docks on Saturdays. I will be back there during March/April for the baggage handling. Extra money is the aim
krissyboy31 Posted 24 February, 2009 Author Posted 24 February, 2009 I think Rupert would be happy if this was SLH's core business. On its own it probably turns a profit.
the saint in winchester Posted 24 February, 2009 Posted 24 February, 2009 Any chance he would invest in us? Look what he's done with Northern Rock already! We have to be a better prospect than Raith Rovers! Or are we?
INFLUENCED.COM Posted 24 February, 2009 Posted 24 February, 2009 I work in the docks, and for three days, there was a burger van at 101 berth Off topic but why was it only there three days ? (or am I missing an obvious pun)
Hatch Posted 24 February, 2009 Posted 24 February, 2009 The eyes of the nation were on Southampton yesterday............. Really ???
PAULACZT Posted 24 February, 2009 Posted 24 February, 2009 It cost the government £200,000 for their away day so can only assume we would have received a portion of that. Probably 90% though was on peak time first class rail travel. do you think it is his visit that has driven the share price down further..to 13.5p..or just Ruperts wonderful Chairmanship?
Badger Posted 24 February, 2009 Posted 24 February, 2009 The article seemed more of a prestige event for the City Cruise Terminal rather than Saints to be honest. But perhaps it vindicates His Rupertship's long held view about "best catering in the south".After which nothing else really matters,
spyinthesky Posted 24 February, 2009 Posted 24 February, 2009 Off topic but why was it only there three days ? (or am I missing an obvious pun) Presume it was there to victual the Police Protection team etc who would have had to undertake a 'sweep' of the area and lock down the building for our esteemed PM btw Saints Hospitality have a term agreement with ABP to use the City Cruise Terminal for 'Special Events' The recent Bond film premiere was there too. Good venue.

del boy Posted 24 February, 2009 Posted 24 February, 2009 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/articles/article.php?page_id=11412 Anyone know whether this made the club any money or was it just a prestige thing? I think it was more the latter - Gordon was hoping that some of our success would reflect well on himself - basking in reflected glory and all that
buctootim Posted 24 February, 2009 Posted 24 February, 2009 bet they did not have a pie and pint Prawn sandwiches and warm chardonnay IMO.
70's Mike Posted 24 February, 2009 Posted 24 February, 2009 Prawn sandwiches and warm chardonnay IMO. i thought that was Old Trafford
Window Cleaner Posted 24 February, 2009 Posted 24 February, 2009 Anyway, are we getting a couple of billion in bail-out money then? Seems like all the other lame ducks are.
exit2 Posted 24 February, 2009 Posted 24 February, 2009 I have to laugh:smt082:smt082:smt082 I work in the docks, and for three days, there was a burger van at 101 berth..............I have this image!!!!!!!!!!!:smt082:smt082 That was for all the security / police. Cheap and Very nice may I add I was working over the weekend apart from the footy on Saturday Ginger, who you work for? ABP?
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 24 February, 2009 Posted 24 February, 2009 If only we'd known , 1000 impoverished Saints fans singing 'Gordon is a moron' at full volume might have got us on the news and possibly even encouraged that Lord Ashcroft bloke to bung us a £1m or so - another missed opportunity - I blame Rupert .
SaintRobbie Posted 24 February, 2009 Posted 24 February, 2009 So let me get this right... we provided the catering? Good. Very pleased for the Chefs. Nice one! Nice to have someone in Southampton who's lost more money than all of our shareholders combined in a matter of half a second.
Amesbury Saint Posted 24 February, 2009 Posted 24 February, 2009 Due to the failure of the management team of UK Government last season, Gordon turned to his friend Lowe, who has sung the praises of Total Football, to implement Total Government. Total Government sees the replacement of experienced civil servants with school leavers. With Total Government correspondance is skillfully transfered from one in tray to another. The opposition has however pointed out that the correspondance rarely arrives at the key destination. One could go as far as to say that Total Government, whilst pretty to watch, to rarely effective. In the league table of Governments, the UK Government has slipped sharply down the league table. However at the next election Gordon will present a letter from a tax payer congratulating Gordon on his vision and management. Gordon then wins the election with 97.5% of the vote. The banks are a little uncomfortable with Total Government but are happy with promises of further asset sales later in 2009.
exit2 Posted 24 February, 2009 Posted 24 February, 2009 So let me get this right... we provided the catering? Saints Event Management provided the catering for the main event ABP Provided the Cruise Terminal, but SEM have a commercial agreement to arrange all events at the terminal Bob provided the burger van while the set up / searches took place
SaintRobbie Posted 24 February, 2009 Posted 24 February, 2009 Saints Event Management provided the catering for the main event ABP Provided the Cruise Terminal, but SEM have a commercial agreement to arrange all events at the terminal Bob provided the burger van while the set up / searches took place LOL. Did Gordon Brown have a burger from Bob as well? Looking chubbier every day I think.
spyinthesky Posted 24 February, 2009 Posted 24 February, 2009 City Cruise Terminal would be a great venue for medium size concerts Perhaps this is something John O'Sullivan and the team at SEM could consider
Nineteen Canteen Posted 24 February, 2009 Posted 24 February, 2009 do you think it is his visit that has driven the share price down further..to 13.5p..or just Ruperts wonderful Chairmanship? Simple case of supply and demand. I'm sure you can work out the consequences and btw its nothing to do solely with Lowe's stewardship of the last 9 months. The previous two years did the damage, relegation didn't help before that but its easy to make a case we would not be on the edge as we are today if the intervening two years hadn't occured.
Delmary Posted 24 February, 2009 Posted 24 February, 2009 (edited) Simple case of supply and demand. I'm sure you can work out the consequences and btw its nothing to do solely with Lowe's stewardship of the last 9 months. The previous two years did the damage, relegation didn't help before that but its easy to make a case we would not be on the edge as we are today if the intervening two years hadn't occured.Agree in part. 04/05 Lowe appoints three managers in one season. The result? Relegation and the loss of the Sky TV money and other income spin-offs (£25M-£30M). Lowe offers his resignation. 05/06 Against the first team manager's wishes Lowe brings in SCW as DoF and sidekick Clifford. Redknapp resigns mid-season and returns to Skateville. Lowe appoints Burley. The off field events dominate the close season. 06/07 Lowe refuses Wilde a directorship. Eventually Lowe is forced out. Wilde fails to deliver on his investment promises despite a massive £7M spending spree. Wilde is voted off both plc and football boards. The executives become the dominate force within the boardroom. The executives force out Crouch and Trant. 07/08 Hone & co negligently mismanages the club's finances. SISU withdraws its takeover offer. Hone & Co resign because of shareholder resolutions. Crouch takes over. Burley resigns and Crouch appoints Dodd and Gorman. NP replaces D&G and narrowly steers Saints clear of relegation on the very last day of the season. Lowe and Wilde unite and force Crouch & Co to step down. 08/09 Lowe appoints inexperience Dutch manager, JP. This alienates the fan base, attendances drop significantly and the clubs drops into the bottom three. Relegation and administration threatens. It's obvious that they are all equally to be blamed and should all hold their heads in shame. Edited 24 February, 2009 by Delmary
brightspark Posted 25 February, 2009 Posted 25 February, 2009 The eyes of the nation were on Southampton? What a load of sh**!!! As if this piece of propaganda will get me to think that the club itself is well run!!! oh, and... What a load of sh**!!! How can Nineteen Canteen possibly believe that his forum posts will suddenly turn us all into avid followers of Lord Lowe!!!

Charlie Wayman Posted 25 February, 2009 Posted 25 February, 2009 Oh Dear! Birds of a feather flock together.. as the old saying goes. Some might say a 'prudent' PM meets a 'prudent' management team.. I would say "A washed-up football club entertains a washed-up politician." This is the kiss of death surely and the last thing we needed and what is even more astonishing is that Lord Lowe of Everlosing votes Labour. Make mine a pint, Jimmie...
scotty Posted 25 February, 2009 Posted 25 February, 2009 You win the coconut sir......rehearsals took place on the Sat/Sun, Coppers by the dozen. They claimed it cost between 100,000 and 200,000, um!!!, yeh right. They stopped our van on Sunday lunchtime by the millbrook flyover and searched it, when we were headed for Westquay road. At least they did something for the money. Luckily, they didnt spot the tax disc that had slipped onto the floor;)
