Heard from a contact at Preston that he witnessed a remarkable 'exchange of words' between Mr Rupert Lowe and someone, understood to be a senior member of the local paper, (presumably 'The Echo') in the corporates yesterday

Apparently Mr Lowe was ranting on about the newspaper person being either ... 'A two bit country hack' or representing... 'A two bit country rag'. He wasn't exactly sure of the term used

It appears this may well have something to do with Mr Wiseman's article in Saturday's 'Echo'.

The Echo man seemed to get very upset about the way Mr Lowe conducted himself and there was a definite suggestion made, during the exchange, that the Echo will not be supporting the Football club financially next season.

If correct it appears Mr Lowe does have an unfortunate manner which fails to endear him to all but a small coterie of friends

Would be interested if anyone can confirm any of the runmoured goings on.

He got that right then.

Sounds as if the pressure is getting to Lowe. Keep up the protests and keep the comments going into the Echo.

I have been a little more impressed with the Echo of late, they are reflecting the general public consensus and I hope will continue to do so by getting Lowe out for the good of SFC and indeed Southampton in the round. No City wants a loser like that associated with it.

The pressure is undoubtly getting to lowe as he now drives in to the car

park by the shop straight up to the corner by the edge of the

industrial estate and scuttles off in to the stadium to avoid any

confrontation and has a steward park his car elsehwere.....

Why are you hiding Mr Lowe, fear of admiting you failed again?

as i said a few weeks ago,the echo has upset the club,it started with the wotton thing a few weeks back when there was an alleged fallout with wotton and portvliet, the echo wanted to run the story and for one reason or another it was prevented from doing so.

according to my source things have been a bit frosty since then...........expect to see the echo turning the screw on wilde and lowe in the next few weeks.

Lowe really doesnt like anything in print going against him. Never has as it undermines his credibility outside of the general interest of online fans at websites like this. He has ALWAYS threatened and attacked stories against him and often has used legal action against the media where he has had a point.

But, I do think this incident really does show he's cracking.

Out of interest what investment does the Echo bring? I suppose it advertises in the programme? Even so, if this is true it also demonstrates that sponsors ARE turing away from the Club whilst he's here.

Hell knows no fury like a massive ego under-stroked - never mind questioned.

Man, I'd pay good money to see the preening rooster lose his cool.

Perhaps now we see why the Echo has been reluctant to do its job and "tell it like it is".

Sounds just like Lowe to me - this is how he acts when challenged.

im not sure of the echo's financial injection to the club (if any??) but i expect i could find out.

in a twisted way it is a shame that we won in a decent fashion yesterday as i suspect he would have really been under a great deal of pressure and would have probably cracked this week, which is nothing more than he deserves really.

was not aware the Echo supported the club financially ?

I suspect they spend a fair bit in advertising (around the ground, on the big screen and in the programme) and have certain sponsorships; i.e. Player of the League etc.

It is something many of us have been only too aware of for some years.

This isn't the first time there have been bad relations between Rupert Lowe and the Echo. It was the case in premiership days. I was never exactly sure what that was about though.

i think the echo was banned from the ground for a while (press conferences, training sessions etc) but i cant for the life of me remember why?

So the war with the Echo is back on then. A bad mistake from him, their coverage helped hold the dogs at bay earlier in the season. They could make his life hell.

This sounds just like Lowe - how dare the Echo publish something that shows him in a negative light ?

"A man who cannot react with good grace when challenged is no man at all, he is in fact a little boy punching above his weight."

Something someone once said to me.

Also to be fair, they have now realised the reader's count and not some egotistical so called buisness man!lol :D

Whether this story is true or not remains to be seen but Lowe is alledgedly a good business man and as such he would/should realise that he is far better off having The Echo on his side rather than against him.

The same thing happened to Meridian News when he didn't like something they said about the way he handled the Dave Jones situation.

He doesn't do opposing views very well;)

the sensible approach has always been, never go to war with anyone who buys print ink in bulk, and remember you will meet them on the way down as well.

Local papers and clubs need each other but I have yet to see a club that doesn't think it has a divine right to rose-tinted coverage - see the case of Ferguson versus the BBC.

Abusing the media while you are in charge is easy, but when Rupert falls, which he will, they will be waiting and it will become a public shaming, fuelled by his own arrogance.

And I haven't forgotten how fans were treated when we had full houses and tickets could be hard to come by, so revenge on those that treat fans with contempt works for me .:)

How to win friends and influence people the Rupert Lowe way.

Yet he will believe he is the one in the right and its everyone else that has a problem. Some people are just like that, they can't accept criticism.

I'll (for now) be taking this with a pinch of salt. Too many factors that don't add up. First off is that it's a third hand source, secondly it's an anonymous source, thirdly the low post count, mostly based on a hatred of Lowe and directors in general, and finally, the fact I doubt a reporter would be authorised to make or pass on news on sponsorship policy.

Understandably, given the tone on here, I expect he's concerned for his personal safety.
