Thedelldays Posted 22 February, 2009 Posted 22 February, 2009 he could be the one to save us...the best striker between us and our rivals by a mile IMO....
Andy_Porter Posted 22 February, 2009 Posted 22 February, 2009 Great seeing the goals again on Championship. A striker who can score goals like that with his work rate aren't common in this league we're lucky to have him, i just hope it isn't too late. Seemed to link up really well with Euell as well.
Fan The Flames Posted 22 February, 2009 Posted 22 February, 2009 We have to thank our lucky stars that Lowe couldn't find a buyer in time.
Greenridge Posted 22 February, 2009 Posted 22 February, 2009 he could be the one to save us...the best striker between us and our rivals by a mile IMO.... Spot on there DD. Just a crying shame we didn't have him August - December.
OldNick Posted 22 February, 2009 Posted 22 February, 2009 I will put my hand up and admit I was wrong (so far) he has been great but of course he has played up front as part of a pair.A front 2 is important so we can defend from the front.
thefuriousb Posted 22 February, 2009 Posted 22 February, 2009 Its great that we have the Saga back that we had when he was first on loan. Not the one that ran out much of last year when Stern carried the burden of keeping us up.
View From The Top Posted 22 February, 2009 Posted 22 February, 2009 It shows how much of a moron Lowe is by loaning him out when it was obvious to everyone but Lowe and Adrian that our "goal hungry young strikers" didn't have anywhere near enough goals in them. Nice false economy Lowe you co ck..

OldNick Posted 22 February, 2009 Posted 22 February, 2009 Spot on mate... The trouble is that if we stay up or go down Lowe will sell him come the summer as his value will shoot up if he continues the strike rate...Jan played 1 up front, I suggest had Saga played just 1 up front in all hte games he played he would not have scored as many as he has recently. Lets just be pleased he's there and that we still have 13 games for him to make us safe.
LostBoys Posted 22 February, 2009 Posted 22 February, 2009 Who but a complete idiot would let him go out on loan for the first half of the season. Keep it up Saga your were excellent yesterday and off the the Premier next season
um pahars Posted 22 February, 2009 Posted 22 February, 2009 Spot on there DD. Just a crying shame we didn't have him August - December. And hopefully it's not too late for him to be the talisman who helps keep us up. Goals win matches in football (!!) and he certainly has the ability to drive us up the table. We have been crying out for a clinicial finisher and his recent goals have shown just what we have been missing (mind you I'm still scratching my head over Wotte's not productive commnet last week!!). As others have said it was a total false economy to loan out all our options and to rely on McGoaldrought and other young loanees. Looking back it was absolute madness and I only hope too much damage was not done earlier in the season. We may have got Saga back more by accident than design, but he has to be the first name on the teamsheet every week.
saintsmonkey Posted 22 February, 2009 Posted 22 February, 2009 he seems to play best in whites, therefore he is only half as good in our stripes

I also think blackpool will get dragged into it more too...

Arizona Posted 22 February, 2009 Posted 22 February, 2009 Was it a flase economy if it prevented us from going into Administration? Surely we would have been in a worse state? Still, hindsight all all that stuff.... A few more goals like the ones he scored yesterday (apparently) and I reckon we'd have drawn enough extra fans through the gates to cover his wages. To makes the maths easy, lets say he was away 20 weeks and missed 20 matches. On £10k a week, at £25 a ticket, we'd only need to draw another 400 people per game through the gates. Less if we'd not bothered with Robertson and Pekhart. More than doable if we were winning games with football as entertaining as yesterday sounded.

LGTL Posted 22 February, 2009 Posted 22 February, 2009 He is one of the best strikers in the league, let alone between the bottom few clubs. Compare him to Parkin, and just think that Preston are 5th...! Still can't believe people were saying he wasn't good enough, even after he played in the Champions League and did pretty well.

The maths is fundamentally flawed there Arizona, can you work out why?? Do we play 52 home games per year? is there no VAT? are there no 12.8% employers NHS contributions. When you do the math correctly it comes to just under 1300 extra fans per game. Would we get them ?? maybe, certainly if he was scoring as he is now.

But John was kept on for 3 months or so, probably because we couldn't find anyone to take him but he WAS there...played some games, think he started messing us about with international games though and the order of the boot up the backside was accelerated. No doubt Watford would fall over themselves to send Rasiak back to us if there was a loophole, thankfully there isn't.

John was treated appallingly at the start of this season, frozen out, told to find a new Club, not included in the new plans etc etc etc, so let's not rewrite history. I think when we let him go Poortvliet even made reference to the fact that he John plays in a 4-4-2 team, something Poortvliet didn't believe in. Even the lad now at Bournemouth was selected ahead of him at one point!!!! An injury didn't help, but we certainly made sure that John's season never got off to it's best start. Just like Saga is proving, when used properly these guys have scored goals in the past and they will score goals again.
OldNick Posted 22 February, 2009 Posted 22 February, 2009 Truly a LeTissier moment. I'm sat here LAUGHING at those who reckoned he aint good enough, and that Burley didnt mis-manage him last season. .It is not rocket science to fill your sides with good players. You have to balance that with budgetting.Saga would have been sold had we had the chance, we couldnt and so he is playing as we pay his wages now anyway.
Stu Man Do Posted 22 February, 2009 Posted 22 February, 2009 Jan played 1 up front, I suggest had Saga played just 1 up front in all hte games he played he would not have scored as many as he has recently. I in turn would suggest he would have burried a significantly higher preportion of our opportunities than david mcgoaldrought . His work rate alone make him worth having in the team. Granted I do agree he works well with a partner up top could Euell be the man?!
um pahars Posted 22 February, 2009 Posted 22 February, 2009 .It is not rocket science to fill your sides with good players. You have to balance that with budgetting. But false economies come into it as well. We paid monies for Pekhart and Robertson and then of course the biggest price we have paid is in seeing gates dwindle, as thousands stay away because of poor performances and results at home. Each 1,000 bums is circa £500,000 a year. Any fool can cut costs, you get the red pen out and put a line through those with the most noughts at the end. But in doing that you risk consinging yourself to a downward spiral as qulaity often costs money. What is much more inspiring and a sign of a decent business mind is growing revenues, enticing back customers and moving forward, something that we have failed miserably at. From the start of the season the strategy, the execution and the results were all wrong.
Thedelldays Posted 22 February, 2009 Author Posted 22 February, 2009 From the start of the season the strategy, the execution and the results were all wrong. i agree totally but IMO this should be left to the end of the season whilst we still have a good chance of staying up... once the season is decided one way or another then it should be a free run on going mental at lowe and co.. but, as we have a chance (and we do) then we should do everything to make it easier for the team regardless if we have or have not done so already this season....

Last year he would have passed on both of yesterdays goals.

Only a moron, and you do fall into that category, believes getting rid of all three of our proven goal scorers, at the same time, was a good move. Oh dear, I see that your frequent the same charm school as Alpine. Were you privvy to the meetings with the backers? Do you know who much money we were told to trim off the wage bill? McGoldrick was scoring goals pre season, did you know for sure that those would dry up and that we would struggle to score goals with the players we had? Good for you mate. I take my hat off to you and can I borrow your crystal ball for next week's lottery numbers. It might have passed you by, but we were (and supposedly are) in serious financial poo. Or perhaps we should have just let the club go under eh? Call me all the names you like mate, but until you start attending board meetings I will treat your comments the same way I treat Alpines.
Arizona Posted 22 February, 2009 Posted 22 February, 2009 Here's his first and our second http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7zvEabDaFI I can't decide which I prefer more ... His first definitely, that is absolute class. No other player we have had in the CCC has been capable of that and I'd be shocked if it doesn't end up on Sky's goal of the week. Wouldn't be surprised if it won either. His second had something of Anders against Spuds in it. A good goal, but terrible defending, letting him run through the whole Preston half without a real challenge before poking it past the 'keeper.

Last year he would have passed on both of yesterdays goals. You couldn't make it up could you Nick? We get three pricelss points and Alpine still manages to get in a dig in at George Burely. You know, the manager who averaged 1.54 points a game against Alpine's hero Nigel Pearson who averaged 1.14 points a game (Alpine for the record that was a massive .03 point a game more than that footballing genious Ian Branfoot). No doubt if Lowe had employed Pearson he would slag him off to as it is very apparent that Alpine has a very very large chip on his shoulder about our dear leader and anyone associated with him has to be cr*p. Well me dear old Alps, I know that you have made up your mind about Wotte already but let's see how he does shall we? And if we are safe before the end of the season, which would be a better performace than last year when we were safe 20 mins before the end of the season, then let's see what you have to say about Wotte then. Saga is a decent player but went through a down period. I don't recall many people being particularly happy when he returned but all of a sudden, he has found his goal scoring touch again, and these Cyber Jockeys are now all wailing about how he shouldn't have gone in the first place.

Selective memory from you here as lots on here were delighted to get him back. As for down periods..FFS McGoldrick has had one for most of the season. The "Cyber jockeys" as you label them have been sayins all season to loan out all of out decent strikers was utter mindless stupidity and now in Saga we have glowing proof of that fact. Lowe and his band of yes men got it massively wrong, you know it, we all know it but let`s just hope it`s not to late to be rectified and we manage to stay up...
sadoldgit Posted 22 February, 2009 Posted 22 February, 2009 I don't disagree about McGoldrick. As to getting things wrong, if the backers told the Board they would have to save x amount of face administration what should the board do? Yes, save x amount. That meant either selling off the best youngsters or getting rid of the high earners didn't it? The board were damned either way. As it is, we have kept our best youngsters and have got Saga back and Skacel didn't find a move so he is still here. So lets be thankful that we have a decent mix at last and still have managed to stay out of administration. And whilst on the subject if the cyber jockeys, it wasn't that long ago that Euell was useless and had no place at SFC. Remember?

Saga imo would have scored many more than the other strikers in the one up system because he is head and shoulders above anything we have here... He is the best finisher in the club, but have you seen him play as the lone frontman? On the occasions he has played up top alone, he hasn't set the world alight. He just doesn't have the ability to hold the ball long enough to bring others in to play. And before anyone jumps down my throat, I know that playing a lone striker is a nonsense in this league. Let's hope Wotte saw enough yesterday to continue with two up front for the remaining games.
um pahars Posted 22 February, 2009 Posted 22 February, 2009 Selective memory from you here as lots on here were delighted to get him back. It's the rewriting of history that has made me chuckle. Many posters have been crying out for a striker, be it one of those we've loaned out or getting someone else in, and when Saga came back on the scene the overwhelming verdict was that it was good news. Indeed, there was even the furore about getting his papers cleared so that he could play immediately and make sure we didn't loan him out again.

Sorry, but comparing Burley to Pearson based on points per game is a bit wide of the mark. Pearson had £0 to spend on player transfers, took over the team 1 hour before his first game in charge and had to turn a team in freefall around in 13 games. Burley on the other hand took over a team in 12th possition and took them to the brink of the drop zone before steadying the ship. He was then given £10m to spend in 2 seasons, as well as having tallents like Jones, Baird and Bale at the club, which Pearson never had. Despite all this he only managed to scrape into the playoffs on the last day of the season, then when he left we were in the same possition we were in 2 years ago, but with a massively inflated wage bill. FWIW, Pearson's points per game was far better than Burley achieved in his first 13 games.
