saint_bert Posted 22 February, 2009 Share Posted 22 February, 2009 Reading it now. Utterly gripping. Fantastic mix of fact and fiction. I hope the movie version will be half as good. Anyone else read it?

equalizer Posted 24 February, 2009 Share Posted 24 February, 2009 Yep! It takes a while to get used to the writing style, and at first I wondered what I had let myself in for, but I'm glad I stuck with it. A cracking read and the trailer for the film looks good I hope it doesn't dissapoint!
Colinjb Posted 24 February, 2009 Share Posted 24 February, 2009 An utterly brilliant book. One of my all time favourites.
Stanley Saint Posted 25 February, 2009 Share Posted 25 February, 2009 Really enjoyed it. I didn't know anything about Clough's time at Leeds (I was only 3 at the time) but found it fascinating and totally convincing. Interesting to blend the lines between fact and fiction so much. The trailer for the film looks ace too. http://sky.mymovies.net/default.asp?filmid=8244&trid=4200
Painswick Saint Posted 14 May, 2009 Share Posted 14 May, 2009 Took some time to used to the writing style, but overall a very absorbing read. Nagging doubts about the accuracy of much of what is written, though.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 22 May, 2009 Share Posted 22 May, 2009 On about 'day 7', it's good but I find it difficult reading it knowing it's mostly lies and fabrications.
the stain Posted 22 May, 2009 Share Posted 22 May, 2009 On about 'day 7', it's good but I find it difficult reading it knowing it's mostly lies and fabrications. That's a rather damning (pardon me) way of saying it's a fictionalised account, which is all it ever claims to be. It is a novel after all, not reportage.
