shurlock Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 It certainly seemed so with all the balls lobbed up to euell who was today posing as an old-fashion target man. Is extremely good in the air -at least ensured none of their lot won anything cleanly. Surman, saga, mcg and lallana were then able to pick up 2nd balls and play the neat on the ground stuff. Style-wise, today seemed like the biggest change all season, even since Wotte took over. And on first impressions, it seemed pretty effective.
NickG Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 no, most came in from wide or played through middle - more direct tho
sidthesquid Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 It was a good mix & what we've been missing
70's Mike Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 biggest difference for me was we did not pass it across the back four just for the sake of it and when it did go forward Euell actually won or stopped them getting clean poession something DMG is just not strong enough to do
shurlock Posted 21 February, 2009 Author Posted 21 February, 2009 Certainly nothing came in from size and perry. Most balls came diagonally from rudi and lloyd but they were hardly hitting the touchlines. Can remember a lot of balls being hit from the half way line.
Bailey Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 We've definitely adopted a more direct approach since Wotte has taken charge. With Euell up top with Saga, it works too. Euell challenges for every ball and puts himself about. With players like Saga and Lallana to pick up the second ball, it can prove to be very effective, as they showed today. If we get results to keep us in the division, I don't care how we play. Results are all that matter now, nothing else.
Gemmel Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 Not so much long ball, more just getting the ball into the box at every oppurtunity. Fair play to James, he put some lovely crosses in today
