JohnnyFartPants Posted 23 February, 2009 Share Posted 23 February, 2009 Exactly. We are where we are this season because we have been trash, not because our strikers that often out shoot the opposition are crap but because they have had loads of off days. But have we been trash? On the whole we have been playing pretty football but with no end product. Now we have the players to give us the end product things are happening. Fair enough, we lost at Bristol City but that game was a turning point. We hit the woodwork twice and created loads. On another day that could have been our game and no way would they have scored a second if we were not chasing the game at the end. Mark my words, this team is on the up. I am not saying we will be on promotion chasing form right now, but there will be a difference from no on in.

trousers Posted 23 February, 2009 Share Posted 23 February, 2009 That's peoples perception , we only win as the opponents have an off day, it's pathetic I wasn't making a judgement one way or t'other, just asking. Bit of a misdemeanor on here I know... I still stand by the logic that a given team can be made to perform badly by the opposition or can perform badly regardless of the performance of the opposition. Anyway, forget I asked the question in the interests of message board harmony.

krissyboy31 Posted 23 February, 2009 Share Posted 23 February, 2009 Sorry but how is 4th in the league not in form? The differeance was that we put some of our chances away and KD had another blinder. Most of the season we have created plenty of chances to win nearly all of our games had we put them away. Hopefully if Saga can carry on for a couple of games the pressure will be taken off some of the others and they may start scoring a few. Throughout the season the 2 main problems we have had were not being able to defend and not being able to put away our chances. Against Preston our Defending got better (still needs work though) and we found the back of the net. Simples Sorry, I disagree with both of those points. I thought KD had a very mixed game and TBH he didn't have much to do. His kicking was once again abysmal and I thought he was at fault for the goal with his Superman impression that only managed to recycle the ball into the danger zone. Thought he was our worse player Saturday. As for creating loads of chances, not in the games I've seen. We have had plenty of the ball, made plenty of passes between the two penalty boxes but as for chances, no not nearly enough and that is one of the main reasons people get on DMcG's back. He doesn't statistically miss any more than anyone else but when our chances are so few and far between, he has to score and 1 in 5 or whatever, isn't good enough. I only got to read the report on the match and saw that he made several super saves which had he not made we would have probably lost 3-4 Over the season our speciallity has been "hitting the woodwork" or "narrowly missing the goal" or there keeper was "well positioned" im sure someone would have access to the opta stats or something but I was under the impression that our pretty passing football was creating plenty of chances but we were always undon by our inability to score and defend. Its not just McGoldrick as BWP, Lallana, Surman, Mule, Wotton, Patterson and several others have all had there chances in front of goal but have had the same results. im sure in 1 game that we lost we out shot both on and off target 3 times more than the Oppo. Anyone other fans would have shrugged there shoulders and said on any other day they would have had a hat full. We moaned because rupes got rid of pearson and we wernt playing the experienced players. Teams all over the place have off days but if on a given day or season the players cant hit the back of the net then the winning team won because they were the better team on the day. not because someone had an offday.
