Held off posting until it sunk in!

I'd like to say faith has been restored but unfortunately let's see what we do next week! Another win and I may just believe we have turned the corner.

Amazing how a change in formation, playing people in the right position, and blending youth with experience works!

It's only what most of us have been saying all season - but hey we are just customers!

According to NickG this is bolllllocks. We could lose every other game 5-0 this season and the PNE result would still be worth hanging the bunting up for.

what a day, even being locked out of my car (battery failure on my fob and amazingly no key hole to manually open the car door...don't ask) then forced to make a painfully slow treck home using the worst public transport system known to man still didn't prevent me from having a great day yesterday. Just made the reverse trip and thankfully the spare key fob worked so alls well that ends well.

As for the game, wow, what a wait it has been and maybe not compensation for all the defeats, but it was still bloody brilliant to see that little rub of the green come our way and for us to take some of those chances we have created in first halfs all season.

I actually didn't think we played a great deal better than countless other games this season but the Surman chance fell nicely, the long distant volley flew in, the breakaway ended with a touch of composure and we hardly let our guard drop throughout. Their real penalty claim failed to materialise and we made exactly the right subs to counter their long ball onslaught at the end.

For all those that attended I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. We hawve suffered long and hard and WE deserved that win. Get the **** in there.

Davis 7 had sod all to do really.

James 7 some terrific crosses, I'd like to see him get to the byeline but with no one to cover behind him perhaps that explains why he doesn't.

Seis 10 Faultless killer-esque display. Won everything. He has been superb since he joined.

Perry 8 Handled Parkin well.

Skacel 7 Solid display, even his wave and dive couldn't annoy me today

Gillett 8 busy, very busy and gave the ball away less than usual. Still room to improve, especially when with back to play.

Surman 9 Tackled hard, worked hard but its his first touch that sets him apart. Didn't give the ball away all day.

Lallana 6 Didn't see enough of the ball for me and I'd like to see him play where McGoldrick played. Still doesn't look fit or sharp enough.

McGoldrick 7 Played in midfield at the front of a diamond and did pretty well. I don't think he worked harder than previous games but he made some tackles right in front of the fans and they backed him to the hilt. One top class volley showed his pwerfull shot and his ability. I still think he has something.

Euell 10 Played ery well in centre midfield last week and continued this as the target man. He may not have won every header but all their defenders knew they had been in a battle and a lot of the poor headers went straight to us. Great display.

Saga 9 Two tremendous goals, tremendous. Top class. He still gave the ball away a fair bit but his quality was clear to be seen. I hope he can keep this form going.

As I said before the game, I go into every fixture with hope and today that hope turned into gold. I can't wait for next week. Can we do it, two wins on the trott? Even if things turn to **** again I will cherish that 3-0 after half an hour feeeling.

Oh yeah, I forgot to say that I'm delusional, totally and utterly delusional. You see I can use that term wrongly as well.

you are so bitter you make things up.

I explained it simple earlier.

If we lose Saturday, but win after etc the win is still vital.

It is not enough on its own, but neither does it suddenly become worthless if we lose on Saturday? do you understand now?

I really enjoyed yesterday - but its far from enough.

Tell me, what do you think I am bitter about ?

The only thing I could possibly be accused of approaching bitterness about is the level of abuse I and some others got, back in August/September, about being negative, for predicting with a high degree of accuarcy how this season would pan out.

Maybe if more people had paid attention and been less stupid we wouldnt be looking over our shoulder at relegation.

I said we would go down in the summer and have been saying exactly the same thing all season. Having that opinion is not why you get stick on here. Its more to do with your postin style summed up beautifully below:

Maybe if more people had paid attention and been less stupid we wouldnt be looking over our shoulder at relegation.

If when you say `more people' you mean Lowe and JP then fair enough, but if you mean people on here than I'd point to the fact that the only thing fans could have done to avoid this situation was to go to more games providing more money to loan/buy players. Other than that supporters could do nothing to change our predicament.

You don't really expect the numpties to admit they were wrong do you Alps.

when you say numpties, who exactly are you describing? Are there and have there been any posters on this board that actually thought we would be in a different position to the one we are in now?

As far as I can see posters over the last year are either those that hope things work out or those that laugh and name call at those that hope.

Just being negative all the time means you must be right sometimes. But it is such a boring, miserable way to live your life.

I don't think anyone thought this season would be anything other than a long hard slog, but we were not wrong to want to believe in our youngsters and want to try something different after the sh1te we were served up last season. I accept fully that JP didn't work out - partly his obstinacy over formations, partly restrictions on players because of our financial plight & partly bad luck. BUT, I look at our team yesterday with 4 lads in it who never really had a chance last year who all acquitted themselves well & have all developed this season & still give me hope that it will work out OK

do you still think the players hate wotte and have no respect for him..?

I think its difficult for them to respect that man for various reasons TDD.

Nice to see a real strike force in place - the real heros yesterday werent Wotte and the kids but the MEN who despite Lowe AND WOTTES sidelining all season in order to tempt them to leave in January, stayed, fought and won the game for us.

Sagga and Euell. Disgustingly treated. Replied with their professionalism.

Luckily for Lowe/ especially Wotte they didnt leave afterall. There's still a little hope.

They weren't disgustingly treated. Football is a business, tough decisions have to be made - nobody on £10K a week can be disgustingly treated. And they were only treated that way in a desperate attempt to stop the club going under, not at any point for some personal vendetta

There have been plenty on here who gave ridiculous amount of support to JP and Lowes stupidity right up to the point of JPs leaving.

Since JP left we have seen how the majority views on here were right on the button from day one.

Were there?

I honestly don't recall anyone suggesting that Lowe had unearthed a gem and we were bound to prosper. All I remember of the summer was people laughing at the OS for its descriptions of the new `amazing' signings and repetitive mentions of the fantastic coaching set up.

Sidelining and belittling the senior players so that they left in January isnt treating them disgustingly ? These are professional people and competitive sportsmen, sidelining better players whilst paying their wages anyway (!) to encourage them to leave is disgraceful. What does that do for team unity and ability? What does it do to ATTRACT players into the club when you treat senior players like this?

Sorry - it was a disgusting tactic from Lowe.

Apline, you have not got a monopoly on foresight. At the start of the season most of us realised that the new set-up would likely fail. We could see, and many of us said, that the youngsters would not have the stature, strength or experience to complete in this physical league; that a few bad results would destroy their fragile confidence; that it was false economy to loan out our three experienced strikers; that Jan was Lowe's puppet etc).

But there was nothing we (the fans) could do about except hope and pray that we could gather enough points to reach mid table. Only Lowe could have "been less stupid" and done something different; and you know his track record for humbling admitting that he has made a gross error of judgment and changing course.

How about deliberately leaking their salaries to the Echo in some pathetic attempt to justify the persecution of senior players going on at SFC ?

To me, that was a complete breach of trust and possibly even employment law.

Was my Polish girlfriends birthday on Sat and to prove what a quality guy I am, I decided to buy her a ticket to watch Saints V PNE!

Came over from Brussels only for the 2nd time this season and was already depressed at the thought of having to watch the Saints. I explained to the GF not to expect any entertainment and promised to make it up with a night out in London on the way back. My GF, said I should have faith in the Saints (she's never seen them before) and as she's Polish and its her BD, Saga will score for her...........poor delusional girl, knows nothing about football...........

It's not disgusting - not the nicest, maybe, but they all knew the score - the club couldn't afford to pay them, no-one else would match their ludicrous salaries so we had stand-off. The club could not effectively make them redundant because of the pay-offs so what recourse did they have. Financial necessity is all it was

Of the many joyous things on display on Saturday, our defending 70 metres up the pitch was especially welcome. Saga, Euell and McGoldrick (and others) chased down the loose ball, blocked many Preston passes/clearances, kept them well away from the danger area and denied them any rhythm to their play. Tireless commitment and dogged determination; not the most glamourous of qualities but ever so necessary.

It was reminiscent of the Beattie and Ormerod days.

Ah the usual twist.

It wasnt just Euell's. Several players had their salaries pasted across the paper in that article.

How else do you explain the details of several player's contracts being simultaneously published in the press without the implicit involvement of someone at the club ?

Now tell us how I have twisted your post?

You can't, and you have in your usual way tried as part of your 5th columnist campaign against the club to use anything as a weapon to hurt it.

it is not me who is doing the twist., it is you who do more twists than you would see at a Rock and Roll convention.

what a day, even being locked out of my car (battery failure on my fob and amazingly no key hole to manually open the car door...don't ask) then forced to make a painfully slow treck home using the worst public transport system known to man still didn't prevent me from having a great day yesterday.

Skacel 7 Solid display, even his wave and dive couldn't annoy me today

Surman 9 Tackled hard, worked hard but its his first touch that sets him apart. Didn't give the ball away all day.

Yep, have to agree it was an excellent performance by the team and the crowd rewarded them by getting behind and cheering them on. It was nice to see them all giving 110% and defending from the front with Euell and Saga running their socks off and is what I want to see from a Saints side.

Was even impressed to see the whole team come together after we had let in a goal to give each other a boost. Nice to see them reallty fight to get the three points.

Slightly different scores to you Chez

Davis 7 Did well, making some imprtant saves in the second half when Preston went more attacking.

James 8 Is really improving and very important goal line clearance.

Seis 10 Absolutely brilliant and very solid. Just what Saints need to start shoring up the leaky defence.

Perry 7 Played well although got turned a couple of times by Parkin.

Skacel 7 Had a good game and got forward to support Surman.

Gillett 6 Didn't start off too well and gave the ball away too much at the start. Much improved second half and helped get in some good tackles in midfield.

Surman 8 Ahain an improvement. Ran forward well and got back to help the defence when Preston pushed forward. Goal well taken.

Lallana 7 Slowly improving but sometimes was trying to hard. Got forward well to support the attackers.

McGoldrick 8 Played very well in midfield. Very intelligent passes to find a player to get Saints attacking up the field. Made good and timely tackles and got forward to support the strikers. A great improvement.

Euell 9 Great battling display and supported Saga up front. Unlucky not to get a goal and he ran his socks off and helped gee up the team when the Preston goal went in.

Saga 10 Faultless. Scored two very good goals, ran his socks off putting Preston defenders under pressure and defending from the front. Man of the match for me.

If they can put in the same level of commitment and energy in the next few games then better results should follow and there is just a chance we could get out of relegation.

Saga was not faultless, there never is a player who is.He scored 2 very good goals and worked hard, but did no more than his other 2 forwards for effort and commitment.

The whole team did well the manager included

Yep, have to agree it was an excellent performance by the team and the crowd rewarded them by getting behind and cheering them on. It was nice to see them all giving 110% and defending from the front with Euell and Saga running their socks off and is what I want to see from a Saints side.

Was even impressed to see the whole team come together after we had let in a goal to give each other a boost. Nice to see them reallty fight to get the three points.

Slightly different scores to you Chez
