I can't imagine Euell intiating the team huddle after Preston's goal if Wotte hadn't talked to the senior players, perhaps especially him, about the need for leadership.

Good sign.

You may want to have a rethink if you think Euell's and Wotte's relationship is all sweetness and light.;)

I'm sure they're not bosom buddies but it sounds like Euell parked his frustration today and filled a very valuable leadership role.

Would that be an incorrect assumption, um?

I feel really good, found out the Grandson hadn't gone to Wales this weekend so took him on the spur of the moment.

After all the rubbish he's watched this year, Forrest & Watford to name but 2 he was not really that keen. But after 10 minutes he was having a ball.

Sat in the Chapel and there was actually singing!

Now just hope they carry on with more of the same next week.

I don't know where that came from but, boy, do I want more of the same, as that's the first win I've seen all season!

Credit to Wotte for reorganising the side to play effective football. Yes, we were direct in the first half but once the goals starting going in we also played some attractive football.

Thought it was a massive gamble playing McG in central midfield but once he found his feet it paid off.

I think it's also worth recognising that we started off very nervous and had the rub of the green with the ref and three superb strikes. It all fell into place for us today, but we still have a long way to go. At least it's a start.

Saga man of the match for me, as good a CF performance as I've seen in a long time, helped by Euell doing the Heskey 'donkey' role.

Skacel, Saga and especially Euell were our best players today and inspired the team to one of it's best performances of the season. Where have they been most of the season? Out of the team thanks to that genius Lowe. We wouldn't be in this position if he hadn't consistently meddled with the football side of OUR club. The proof was out there on the pitch today. God how I despise that man!

Not true - they did well, but no better than James or Gillett or McGoldrick who never had a look in last season. And the reason they were out of the team was mostly financial desperation. Just appreciate a good result for what it is. Your life will be better for it

I didn't watch Southampton today. Not sure who they were, but it wasn't the same team as the rest of the season.

Superb. Very good football from start to finish. Excellent stuff.

My man of the match is Jason Mule. Saga also excellent, but the Mule was pure quality today. Thank God he is still in the squad.

Well done lads! An excellent game. Now keep it up...

What a performance. Couldn't believe we were 3 up at half time!

Everyone played well for us today, although I thought Lallana and McGoldrick were quite quiet. No complaints though. MOTM for me was Jason Euell. It would be easy to give it to Saga for his 2 goals, but Euell put in a brilliant performance.

He challenged for every ball, worked his socks off and chased everything. Euell and Saga complimented each other brilliantly and I hope to see them playing alongside one another for the rest of the season based on today's performance.

Haven't had this feeling on a Saturday night for quite some time. We must remember not to get carried away mind, as the hard work has only just begun. We HAVE to follow this victory up with another 3 points against Cardiff next week.

COYR!

Good finishing meant we were able to cruise the 2nd half, although had they got a second I dread to think how we might have folded. The support was also superb. The march went well and all in all Saints fans have every reason to be proud both off and on the pitch.

One word of praise for James, the right back. He has had a torrid time this year but has turned up and never flinched, had some good games and some poor ones but his head has never dropped and he gives his all. Considering it is not his natural position he deserves some recognition.

However we all know, this victory will mean nothing unless we follow it up with 3 points v Cardiff. If the fight back is genuine nothing less than a win will do.

They are back because nobody else will pay them what they are on here & while they are here we are all happy to see them play

Still not sure what you are saying , can we afford them or not ? if we can why did they go out on loan ? if we cannot then surely admin will be announced next week

Most of my thoughts have already been covered in this thread, but in summary:

Saga - great, for obvious reasons but also his work rate and closing down were superb.

Euell - again work rate was fantastic, perfect foil for Saga today. Also took a real battering from their CBs.

McGoldrick - Best I have seen him play -ever!! Nice touches, good link-up play and good work rate - chased everything and stuck his foot in.

Gillet - Best I've seen him play too - was everywhere, chasing everything, and some crunching tackles.

Wotte - Tactics spot on, risky and brave, but spot on. Only slight critisicsm is that I think he shoud have taken Lallana off 10 mins before he did. The lad was fookin knackered after chasing enerything all day. He was playing right in front of me and I thought he left us exposed a few times in the last 15 mins as PNE applied a bit more pressure. Not having a dig at him cos I thought he had a good game - just that he was clearly exhausted and couldn't get up and down as quick as was earlier in the game.

The thing that impressed me most was that the whole team looked like actually gave a fook - playing for each other, closing and chasing down everything, not letting PNE settle on the ball for a second in any position on the pitch, crunching tackles, and some fantastic flowing football to boot!!

Very, very happy tonight.

COYS!!!

In the long term we clearly couldn't, and can't in the future, but as they are here and under contract, presumably some sort of truce has been reached for the short term

Wow, what a wonderful surprise today was, well done to the lads.

Now the question is whether this is a real turning point that will be repeated multiple times with the result of us staying up or whether this was just another rare positive blip in what has thus far has been a plummet toward relegation....?

If the best available team [as near today as all season], then who knows, whether we will

stay up. However what cannot be overlooked from the report, is that we started playing

from the first minute, instead of the forty six minute as in many other games.

Lastly I agree totally with Duncan, that unless we beat Cardiff, this result will count

for nothing.

Excellent performance, well done to Wotte and the boys.

Just proves my point that with a half decent manager this team could easliy be mid table.

Also shows how suicidal it was of Lowe to freeze out players like Euell and Skacel, if we go down he will have alot to answer for.

Yes, a very incorrect assumption ;)

Get close to Jason and ask him his opinions about Jan, Wotte and Lowe. He also may not like his salary being leaked to the press!!!

Agree absolutely with your comment re James- although he is not a natural right back the one thing you can say about him is that he doesn't hide

Good stuff. Thought everyone played their part today. Keep Euell up front with Saga, they can cause anyone in this league problems. Thought McGoldrick did quite well, if we are going to play him keep him in midfield. Gillet, Surman and Skacel were very good as well. Great escape 2009? :o

In a nutshell.

well the second half thing is interesting.

Preston threw everthing at it, with the three H/T subs.Given that they are a top 6 side (just shows what you can do on limited resources) I thought we kept them pretty quiet second half.

Even after conceding we looked well focussed on the job in hand, with just the one scare at 3-1.

I felt we stuck realy well to a plan today.

Things did go our way today, but we DID play a top 6 side off the park in the first half, and we did look solid in holding the lead.

I really don't know about Wotte and his supposed personaliy flaws. If he doesn't get on with Euell, thats fine by me if Euell keeps playing like that.

That 11 , playing something like that must be in with a good shout of getting the points we need.

I agree that 3 points against Cardiff is vital, but what we need most of all is decent form going into the last 10 games, and everyone at the club pulling together.

Fantastic performance particularly in the first half.

The second half was different more containment than quality but great

none the less.

Top man for me Jason Euell followed closely by Saga but to be honest

everyone did really well today.

But please don`t let it be another false dawn of optimism to be thrown

away with another dismal defeat against Cardiff,we must build on this

win.

Well done lads...

When were these things said then Um.If it is current about him and Wotte now it will be of great surprise.

My info from the dressing room is very positve, as you know as I have been relaying that for a few games.

Euell and Saga playing as 2 up front makes the world of difference.Euell was brave and worked hard Saga scored 2 great goals.Thne opposition defence got no time and were made to panic.DMG worked chard and played some great balls.Lonegan made 2 of the best saves Ive seen in ages.

The team as whole showed the passion and desire we need.

Wotte made a good team selection and got the tactics right.

Was it just me that felt the team actually knew what they were doing and were comfortable with actually having tactics and organisation.

THe fans were fantastic and there was no dissent in the ground at all and so hats off to the anti Lowes.

You showed wit the march and conduct in the ground that you are more than a thoughtless rabbble.

Good to meet Westender and Roger on the day as well, at least I can put a face to the debate now.

Just think what the Preston boys must be thinking - they arrive at St Marys in a play off position to play a team thats only won once at home all season, five months ago - to lowly Norwich. Probably wont need to break into a sweat. 45 mins into the game and its 3-0, game over, the double. How embarrassing.

One other thought, just imagine, just for a few seconds - two wins in a row. If we did it, just imagine what that would feel like.

No, I know, you've forgotten.

Why isn't McGoldrick on that list? He did really well in midfield, linking up the play very well with the wide players and chasing down all lost causes. With Euell and Saga upfront DMG really enjoyed himself by the looks of it!

Chasing down lost causes ? He is a lost cause

sorry this comment bugs me, it will still be three points more than if we lost both games! We need points- whether its with consecutive wins or alternate etc it matter not!

Cardiff on the road are a much tougher proposition than Preston. I think a draw would be a good result, and if we manage that we just have to pray other teams don't steal a march on us, but with Plymouth and Forest away at Wolves and Reading respectively we should be OK.

Barnsley and Norwich have winnable home games, so fingers crossed for a couple of draws there.

I disagree, after Cardiff it's Ipswich and Birmingham away. If we don't beat Cardiff we could very easliy be 6 points adrift again by our next home game.

Personally I think it does matter that we get B2B wins especially at this time of the season and the position we are in.

of course it matters, would go as far as to say would start being confident if we do win!

But to say this win counts for nothing if we don't is rubbish
