Arizona Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 3-1 up going into stoppage time never really feels safe with Saints does it... Anyway, nevermind that, W00T!!!!!!!!!111 :D:D
Thedelldays Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 get in there you beauty... who would have thought that we would have been 3-0 up at half time.. well done lads...now more of the same please..
forever a red and white Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 GET IN YES. There is still hope. Saga legend
Micky Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 Took a long time coming, but my it's sweet when it does - lets just hope that this is not a false dawn, but the beginning of our escape from relegation.
dubai_phil Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 Blimey, I decide to go and get a life on a Saturday by going out for a curry and THIS happens. Bolox I suppose this means I gotta eat curry EVERY Saturday now. Well done lads, must be the breakfasts all week in training. Same again next week please
saint_stevo Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 did we win at home? Did that really happen?
.comsaint Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 A superb win - thanks to a smashing first-half display. Well done indeed lads. 3 vital priceless points...to which we need to add a further 3 next week v Cardiff. My weekend (for once) will be enjoyable! Thanks lads. And credit to Wotte too for picking a good side & a good attacking formation. Sweet!
del boy Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 I don't know how to feel right now........ wierd isn't it - winning at home, bonkers. Do you think this is what normal clubs do? I'm looking forward to the reports from those who were there.
LGTL Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 We have won more away games than Preston, Cardiff, Swansea, QPR etc etc, if we can just sort out this home form we might be OK. Lets hope this is the start of that change in form.
Leicestersaint Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 Well done Saints - the fight back starts now!
thorpie the sinner Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 Fantastic result!! We need to push on now, we CANNNNN get out this mess!!
SaintRobbie Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 CHUFFED TO BITS!!!! (and Beattie taking the ****s out of the Skates too!) Did we win or did Preston lose?
JustMike Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 lets not get too carried away here, good result and 1st half performance but we need to push on.
Thedelldays Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 CHUFFED TO BITS!!!! (and Beattie taking the ****s out of the Skates too!) Did we win or did Preston lose? do you still think the players hate wotte and have no respect for him..?
Plumstead_Saint Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 First team we have done the double over this season. Are there a couple more possible?
suewhistle Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 Can finally properly enjoy a weekend now.. I'll second that. All that remains is for me to come off the bench tomorrow to play for the first time in a competitive match for my Italian ladies team, and to score the winning goal with a classic English centre forward's header. Probably have to make do with a Saints home win though. :-))
CanadaSaint Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 Great win. That game in hand is crucial.
Jimmy_D Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 Can we protest every week? Hehe, what a game, my nails are gone and the radio was in a bit of danger at the end there, but how come we only seem to win when there's been a protest? Hm, as things stand, we could actually be out of the relegation zone at the moment, although we'd have to win our game in hand by 3 or 4.
.comsaint Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 Can we protest every week? Can we play Preston every week more like...
RoswellSaint Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 Very good day. Enjoy it but still a lot of work to do.
SW11_Saint Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 Thank God for that. 3 absolutely critical points, and more importantly a home win. Got to follow it up now though. Oh to have had Saga here all season...
Johnny Shearer Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 Good result. Hopefully it'll be the same again next week.
adysaint Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 Only Derby left as a chance of another 'Double'
ExSt Peter Saint Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 I was shocked when I heard the goals go in. Still can't really believe it, but we'll still basically have to play like we did in the first half today for 90 minutes every game to get out of this. Very nice to have a win to celebrate for once, anyway.
thorpie the sinner Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 wasn't there but have to pick saga from the commentary!! Without his goals, mmmm
Plumstead_Saint Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 Only Derby left as a chance of another 'Double' Cheers. That would be a nice payback for the penalty shootout
WealdSaint Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 Had to spend all afternoon running the wife & kids around. Did'nt get near a radio.............WOOT!!!!
70's Mike Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 Just got home, good march, great support inside SMS. IMO whilst Sagga will get the headlines, it was a game won by the performances of 2 un sung heroes, Euell up front gave us something we have been crying out for all season , a physical presence he created space for Sagga and worked their back four brilliantly. I also thought Gillett in midfield gave us a bite and energy. Even DMG appeared to appreciate having Euell up front. So much for those who said having a protest outside effects the level of support inside, along time since all four sides of SMS were singing
saint lard Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 My hopes are raised again,we will see,i am not going to get too optimistic just yet.
Steeleye Saint Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 All the Wotte bashers have gone quiet haven't they?
saint lard Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 All the Wotte bashers have gone quiet haven't they? No,im here.
Arizona Posted 21 February, 2009 Author Posted 21 February, 2009 All the Wotte bashers have gone quiet haven't they? Yeah, they should have the balls to come on here and slate the bloke after a 3-1 win.:smt048
.comsaint Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 I'll second that. All that remains is for me to come off the bench tomorrow to play for the first time in a competitive match for my Italian ladies team, and to score the winning goal with a classic English centre forward's header. Probably have to make do with a Saints home win though. :-)) Is it asking too much to expect post-match "shower room" photos then Sue...
70's Mike Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 All the Wotte bashers have gone quiet haven't they? as long as we picks teams made up of men and not jugglers he will be ok
saint lard Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 Just because we get a result,at long last, does not mean people that are not in favour of Wotte do not have a valid point. Ffs,one game thats all, from reports it was good stuff for 45 mins. I hope he succeeds in turning it around, but i am yet to be convinced that he is imune from critisism.
SW11_Saint Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 All the Wotte bashers have gone quiet haven't they? Everyone who was here before is still here. Best not to start mouthing after too much, we don't want this first win to be a flash in the pan... lest you fall into the trap of those who jumped up and down shouting "Rupert's right, Rupert's right!" every time JP got an away result... Let's hope this is the start of a run of wins. One on it's own won't be enough.
Easty Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 Fantastic win Saints. More of the same next week please. COYR
um pahars Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 A very good performance. IMHO once again the difference was the class exuded by Saga. His clinical finishing (plus the same from Surman) was the real difference between the sides. A slow start and then bang, bang, bang and we're in control and playing some good stuff. Usual jitters in the second half but by then we were coasting and they were chasing the game. Some good performances from the experienced players who really stepped up to the plate today. Davies - 7 - Nothing much to do, although I think he made on good save. James - 7 - Some very good crosses in the first half and better than usual Saeijs - 8 - Very dominant, rugged and took no prisoners Perry - 7 - A fairly quiet game Skacel - 8 - Always up for it and gave us an outlet on the left Lallana - 6 - Didn't really do much, but didn'rt really do anythign wriong either McGoldrick - 6 - Don't really think he's a centre midfielder, so not sure why we played him there. Gillett - 7 - Got stuck in and played one of his best games for us Surman - 7 - Great strike and better than recent matches Euell - 8 - Led the line superbly, mixed it up, took the pressure off Saga and always running. Saga - 9 - Different gravy and what we have been missing for so long. He must have as many goals as McGoldrick by now. I think he's productive!!!! Hopefully this will be the start of a good run as the team looked pretty good today. A bit unsure about middle of the park (Gillett & McGoldrick) but the more experienced players ensured we weren't going to lose.
AndyNorthernSaints Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 Great win and better team selection. Sounds like Saints play better with Wotton starting on the bench. Think we'd be mid table or higher if Saga had been here all season.
Mr X Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 The one game i decided enough is enough i cant face paying out another £25 for utter rubbish and this happens! That will teach me!
Papa Shango Posted 21 February, 2009 Posted 21 February, 2009 Good stuff. Thought everyone played their part today. Keep Euell up front with Saga, they can cause anyone in this league problems. Thought McGoldrick did quite well, if we are going to play him keep him in midfield. Gillet, Surman and Skacel were very good as well. Great escape 2009?
