PaulSaint Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 This piece on the BBC website about Charlton's fall from grace is frighteningly close to another club - guess which? BBC Article
SaintRobbie Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 The key difference between the 2? Charlton will expect to bounce back IF they relegate to League 1. Saints will continue to fall WHEN they relegate. Optimism. That's the difference. They have slightly more...slightly.
Gravesend Saint Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 What isn't familiar is the quote "Murray and several directors have lent £14m to the club and cannot be accused of lacking commitment".
Blanco Saint Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 (edited) Another club with 3 managers the season they were relegated from the prem. Were doing what many clubs have been through (leeds, Leciester,Forrest etc) but as mentioned it will be very difficult to see us bounce back to the championship. There we go, i'm off to cry in a darkened room. Edited 20 February, 2009 by Blanco Saint missing )
PaulSaint Posted 20 February, 2009 Author Posted 20 February, 2009 Another club with 3 managers the season they were relegated from the prem. If the Skates replace Harte then they will have had 4 - Byee!
SaintRobbie Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 ... we now have Euell. ....... not sure how to spin that lol
Window Cleaner Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 Like ourselves and Watford, Charlton failed to cut costs quickly enough. They believed they would get promotion and went all out for it. The abyss between the Premiership and the CCC (even with parachute payments) means that you have just one real chance to get back up. After that you've got to throttle back hard and shift everyone that earns more than the average sum for the division.
VectisSaint Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 Reading the article, Charlton blame the club showing too much ambition (overspending on crap players when Dowie was manager), whereas we blame the club for not showing enough ambition (not pushng on after Cardiff) and many would welcome Dowie in place of Mark Twotte. Very different scenarios, same outcome. Further difference is that they will bounce back next season, whereas we won't unless things change dramatically.
