saint1977 Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 Of cousre he should really keep quiet on such things' date=' but to be offended by what is actually not exactly an 'untrue' statement seems a bit silly[/quote'] Didn't offend me personally Frank but the club should realise that it isn't smart and have pulled the article. I've heard worse from the likes of Hone and Askham.
SaintDonkey Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 That's the bit that p155sed me off! It's 'cause we love the club you tosser. You wouldn't understand because you don't!! Why the hell should he love the club? How many managers have we had since Ted Bates who actually loved the club? I love the pair of them but Lawrie ****ed off to manage his true love Sunderland and Bally went running to Man City when they called. Dave Merrington at least talks passionately about Saints now and I don't know about Nicholl. But Branfoot, Souness, Jones, Hoddle, Gray, Strachan, Sturroc, Wigley, Redknapp, Basset, Wise, Burley, Pearson and Poortvliet where just professionals come to do a job with varying degrees of success. None of them 'loved' the club. Step forward the one man how's managed Saints in recent years who genuinely loved the club - Jason Dodd. How long did it take the 'fans' to turn on him? About 2 games wasn't it? To be honest he sounds like he's read some of the vitriol spewed on here: "are they really supportive or are they waiting for us to go down?" Some people in here have been advocating Saints going into administration, and hence be relegated, as the only way to go. The same damn 'fans' who are now getting all indignant about Wotte calling them up on it. I think his words were poorly chosen - and I wish that some PR firm was involved to stop him saying stuff like that - but they we're untrue. As to the 'young kids doing a protest march' it's being organized on facebook FFS, have you looked at the list of confirmed attendees? Most of them do look like 'young kids'. For the record I think Wotte is wrong and protesting in this manner is part of being a 'true fan'. But people should get off their high horses for a minute and consider the situation rationally for a minute.
Frank's cousin Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 Maybe if the thought of this march get's Wotte to train them hard and properly so they might actually get three points for only the second time in three months, than yes, maybe you should go and join them. And if there was any chance of it achieveing this I am sure you would get 15000 me included...
JohnnyFartPants Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 Maybe not. But just the fact the last was being planned seemed to force the board into some sort of action to address the issue of JP. Maybe if the thought of this march get's Wotte to train them hard and properly so they might actually get three points for only the second time in three months, than yes, maybe you should go and join them. LOL. Delusion on all fronts.
INFLUENCED.COM Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 'Some Kids' Are you offended when he refers to the teams as Boys ? his comment was 'some young kids doing a protest march' as I posted earlier publicity has focused on the organisers age, whats the problem ? he didn't say 'only kids'
sunrise Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 I really don't think a protest is going to make any difference to the scoreline tomorrow. The people attending the protest tomorrow have probably been supportive of the team all season yet have been rewarded with only 1 home win in 16. Instead of making comments such as he has to the press, Wotte should shut up and concentrate 100% on the task in hand - get us 3 points tomorrow. It is a results driven business after all.
PAULACZT Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 The point is, he just doesnt get it. He is a puppet in all of this a total irrelevance. His time will be short with us and he will carry on with his pointless career somewhere else far away. In the mean time he really should shut his pointless little mouth up. The point is Lowe is continueing to snuff the life out of our once really quite good club. That i get angry about. This Wotte person, i just see a little boy speaking, tryng to play being grown up but failing.............. Spot on! Look at the guys history, either the enhanced one on the OS or just google it! He has never been anywhere longer than two seasons and in the last five years has managed to have five different clubs, including one in Egypt and one in Qatar! He seems to like to be a moving target...little bit harder to hit or catch up with. He left Feyenoord under a cloud ...left Egypt for 'family reasons' ,went back to Holland, then in the same season went to Qatar!! 'family reasons' obviously solved by then! He wont last here very much longer but the ridiculous comments on the OS leave a very bad taste indeed. The good thing is he has now by his comments persuaded many more supporters to march! Admit defeat, go back to the hotbed of football you came from...Qatar!!
Torres Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 Maybe if the thought of this march get's Wotte to train them hard and properly so they might actually get three points for only the second time in three months, than yes, maybe you should go and join them. "Adam - you need to run faster, don't you know there's a march this week?"

He is speaking like someone from a country where political correctness is still not quite King. So what if his words offend those who is talking about. Sure, he could have dressed it up but he used the right words to describe the actions. God forbid a young brian Clough came up in this era as he would have had his skills strangled out of him by dinlo fans.
Toomer Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 Some kids, some of the marchers will be over 50 and in a number of cases over 60 and would have supported the club for over 40 years, what it would be like to have my youth again.
Torres Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 Instead of making comments such as he has to the press, Wotte should shut up and concentrate 100% on the task in hand - get us 3 points tomorrow. Do you really think that the odd press interview seriously undermines any manager's ability to do their job? Maybe that's why Fergie doesn't talk to the BBC anymore!
Sheff Saint Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 "Adam - you need to run faster, don't you know there's a march this week?" No. But when i've got some external pressure at work, rightly or wrongly, it makes me knuckle down and bust guts i didn;t realise i had. It might not happen at Staplewood, but they're clearly aware of it. No bad thing.
JohnnyFartPants Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 Some kids, some of the marchers will be over 50 and in a number of cases over 60 and would have supported the club for over 40 years, what it would be like to have my youth again. Will none of them be kids then? The only way his words could be wrong is if none of the protesters are kids. If some are, he is right. If I say I have some black socks it doesn't mean I don't have some white ones.
BadgerBadger Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 I like this line from the first response: You have brought shame on a club that I proudly supported and if I lived out there I would personally come down to the club and #*%*&^$ you up.
JohnnyFartPants Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 No. But when i've got some external pressure at work, rightly or wrongly, it makes me knuckle down and bust guts i didn;t realise i had. It might not happen at Staplewood, but they're clearly aware of it. No bad thing. So him saying these comments means he hasn't got external pressure at work?

Admit defeat, go back to the hotbed of football you came from...Qatar!! Sounds like an MD we had for a couple of years. Employed as a truble shooter and revolutionary, he spent an absolute fortune turning working practices and procedures upside down and then all of sudden, 'moved on' leaving a trail of disaster behind him. 18 months down then line everything he did had been erased from the business. Complete waste of space and wasted opportunity (the MD and Wotte).
Greenridge Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 I agree with all you said except the suggestion his words were poorly chosen. You seem to be even more vociferous than normal in your defence of MW here Johnny. IMHO the support that the team have received in the ground (where it counts) this year has been first class, despite the results and many performances. If people want to make a protest about how they feel the club is performing (and there could be few to argue that we are performing abysmally) then why not let them get on with it, why the digs? These protests are outside of the ground afterall. MW should be fully focussed on on-the-pitch matters and not get involved in club politics, his role is to get points, simple.
Sheff Saint Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 Are you offended when he refers to the teams as Boys ? his comment was 'some young kids doing a protest march' as I posted earlier publicity has focused on the organisers age, whats the problem ? he didn't say 'only kids' Maybe it's all got a bit confused. Maybe it wouldn't have done if he'd ackowledged the fact that the season has been poor, actually tried to undertstand why the fans are unhappy, rather than dismissing a decent sized chuck of the fan base. Look, i don't want the bloke up on a string for his comments. I just think they are mis-guided and aviodable. The whole PR side is rubbish. As has been said elsewhere, if we were winning matches, no one would care, but seeing as we are not, it wouldn't do any harm to at least try and keep supporters happy.
alpine_saint Posted 20 February, 2009 Author Posted 20 February, 2009 Dont agree with doing this publically' date=' but there are some truths in what he says - and I am not sure it warrants the kind of reaction from some... Hes tha manager of theclub and he sees fans protesteing when he wants them supporting. Sure we are playing crap under him and these are hollow words if we dont get points, but its hardly 'nasty' or insulting... seriously, I am not sure why anyone should be offended by it to be honest...[/quote'] Quelle Surprise..........
John Smith Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 What rubbish. I manage to do my job very well and if asked if I thought you protesters were a bunch of children it would not detract from my abilities to point out the obvious answer. I understand your point of view, and I agree. Question, do you think the comments attributed to Wotte will effect the protesters in such a way that they will abandon their plans? And, if they do not effect the protesters in a positive way, why would he comment in the way he did? Because to me, the comments made by Wotte, do not help the situation, and if he's not helping the situation with his comments, why comment at all? Just do the job on the pitch and give the fans something to cheer about and then see them return. Surely, that is the best way to answer the critics. Then after winning the next two games he mentions, turn to the fans and ask for faith and support.
Sheff Saint Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 So him saying these comments means he hasn't got external pressure at work? No. That's not what i said. What i said is he knows there is some supporter unrest. That creates more pressure. If that turns out a great performance, than if nothing else the march has helped focus minds even further and we've got 3 points, great. If we can't handle the pressure, why did Wotte open his mouth. What was he trying to achieve? People don;t live with their heads in the sand.

These protests are outside of the ground afterall. MW should be fully focussed on on-the-pitch matters and not get involved in club politics, his role is to get points, simple. That's one opinion. Not mine though. The problem with some is that they see things in black and white and can never see beyond that. What if he was asked questions about the protesters due on Saturday? After all, it is highly unlikely he brought the subject up. What should his answer have been, assuming he should have given one, and I do not consider "no comment" as useful on either side of the debate for reasons I previously gave. Honesty is the best policy. He called morons morons. I see no problem.
sunrise Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 Do you really think that the odd press interview seriously undermines any manager's ability to do their job? Maybe that's why Fergie doesn't talk to the BBC anymore! Well judging by his previous managerial record, his ability is somewhat questionable. We are 5 points adrift of safety and should we lose tomorrow and Charlton win, we'll go bottom of the league. For that reason alone he shouldn't be making comments which could wind some people up.
JohnnyFartPants Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 I understand your point of view, and I agree. Basically then, if we lose then Wotte is still rubbish but if we win then the protesters made it happen? So in a nut shell, protesting cannot have a negative effect on the players but if we win you will take the credit? Total and utter Narcissus behaviour.

OldNick Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 I think he may have been alluding to the fact that the last march was organised by a 16 year old.I do wonder that the club knows the disenchanted are lost and os they are not looking to appease them. The chairman whose job the marchers wish to get rid of will not worry that his manager annoys them. It is a battle of the wills, and RL is strong willed it seems. NOBODY is going to win, the anti's will effect the atmosphere to many fans weekend relaxatio, RL will carry on upsetting a percentage of fans and so it is another spiral downwards.
Daren W Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 Manager call for fans to get behind the team when they need their support most. Manager gets abused for it. This place is beyond belief. And if the manager was quoted as saying.. "Let's all get behind the team and put our differences aside." I'd fully agree with you. However statements such as... "“I read some stories about some young kids doing a protest march and you just wonder what’s in their minds – are they really supportive or are they waiting for us to go down?" and "You can moan every day about Southampton Football Club and probably they are right because we’re not performing well enough – we’re 23rd in the league – but in difficult times you recognise a true fan and the true believers in this club." are condescending and insulting to the likes of young Connor who rather than talk about doing something actually DO do something. To say he's doing this out of anything other than completer devotion to his club is just bullsheet. Wotte just comes across in this as being very unpleasant and yet again this club allows itself to shoot itself in the foot and make enemies when they should be making friends.. And Frank, it's not an over-reaction... it's just very, very foolish..
OldNick Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 Are they the ones organising the march on facebook? If so I can see why his words are so wrongLol
70's Mike Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 there is some truth in his sentiments BUT the timing stinks as usual and it makes you think that it is all delibrate to shift blame for poor performances. Rupert TRYS to pretend the club did not exist before 1997, looks like Wotte thinks the first half of the season did not exist either. Anyway nice to be called a kid again They are so out of touch with the popular opinion in the city, as our those on here who defend the statement because it is factually correct
Daren W Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 We are 5 points adrift of safety and should we lose tomorrow and Charlton win, we'll go bottom of the league. Greenridge Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 Are they the ones organising the march on facebook? If so I can see why his words are so wrong I think you are perhaps being intentionally disengenious there. Is it relevant who organises the marches or is it more relevant the broad profile of those who actually attend?

"Let's all get behind the team and put our differences aside." a fantastic summary of what the club and fans should be saying. Daren you should be the fans spokesman as I believe you can bridge both divides. Respected from both sides of the arguement and so perhaps the best the fans could put forward in these times of strife.
Torres Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 No for that reason alone the team and the manager should bloody well perform... Are they mutually exclusive?

Just the thought of it will make them train harder this week and play better tomorrow.
Guided Missile Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 Fan power, in the form of the Saints Trust, et al, bought us the Wilde revolution, arguably the most financially damaging period in the club's history. Now, instead of the Trust, we have a spotty faced 16 year old student, behind whom the "fans" have lined up. We must have the largest number of brainless sheep in our fanbase than any other club in the country. I searched the Charlton fansites for any sign that in East London they have anything approaching our sad moaning, excuses for supporters, but all I found was this. I like the early replies to the blog, which sum it up for me. "Medium sized club, did well, stupid fans living in cloud cuckoo land always demand more. Same story that always happens, it just took longer to play out at Charlton. There are over 50 clubs in the league who's fans think they should be in the premier league within 5 years" "We were not guilty of over-ambition or unrealistic expectations. Curbishley did a magnificent job for the club, but his time had come and as Southampton and others before us found, if you have a limited ground capacity and resources you only need one bad season in the Premiership and you're in trouble. Stability is great, but it was soon clear that Dowie was the wrong choice (the potential candidates for the job were not exactly impressive). Pardew came close to keeping Charlton in the Premiership but failed to shape a team for a bounce back, despite good backing from the board. That paved the way for inevitable cutbacks/player sales for this season and continued turmoil. Yes, this is a tough time for the club. But administration is not likely, we own our own ground, have a very strong bond between the fans and the board (it is wrong to suggest that the fans' director was axed because of his actions, it was a sensible move to replace a fans' director with a consultative fans forum), and continue to stand out for community relations. We may struggle for some years, whether or not we stay up this season, but we won't lose our sense of identity and when we come back it will be with a retained sense of the real meaning of success and failure." Saints have a crap board and crap fans, IMHO...
jonah Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 Whether or not you agree or disagree with Wotte you cannot argue that on the eve of a big game and with the fan base already split it was a bloody stupid thing to say. Whereas on the eve of a big game having some kids organise another march is a bloody smart thing to do? As part of his role as manager Wotte will have done his press conference yesterday. Not surprisingly, given the bloody smart idea of having a march tomorrow, he was asked about the McDonalds March. I imagine he doesn't live on this forum 24 hours a day and hence will have just heard there are a few kids runing a Facebook petition, so he gave his own opinion on it which is that it seems like a stupid idea. Seems like a fair comment from someone focussing on trying to win 3 points, or would you rather the team manager backed the march and turned up a bit late in the dressing room?
Daren W Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 I notice you didn't comment on the first part of Daren's post? Whether or not you agree or disagree with Wotte you cannot argue that on the eve of a big game and with the fan base already split it was a bloody stupid thing to say. No, he'll just sit on his hands as the club goes to rack and ruin. Connor organised a demonstration at the shambolic way this club is run and then went to the game and supported his club. Fair play to him... On that note I'll listen to him a darn sight more than some snidey troll who thinks his responsibility to his club ends with him buying a ticket...
Mr Blobby87 Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 Christ this forum is the most negative and depressing thing I have read in a long time. Whilst I have no problems with a protest march against Lowe/Wilde some fans on here need to remind themselves that the most important thing about tomorrow is finishing the day with 3 points. You’d have thought Wotte called Saints fans ‘unloyal c*nts’ after reading the over the top responses!
Frank's cousin Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 Quelle Surprise.......... Indeed.....

Scudamore Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 I like the early replies to the blog, which sum it up for me. We may struggle for some years, whether or not we stay up this season, but we won't lose our sense of identity and when we come back it will be with a retained sense of the real meaning of success and failure." Ah...reality...
Sheff Saint Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 You are so deluded. Basically then, if we lose then Wotte is still rubbish but if we win then the protesters made it happen? So in a nut shell, protesting cannot have a negative effect on the players but if we win you will take the credit? Total and utter Narcissus behaviour. Thanks for the praise! You've read my comments, seen what you wanted to and replied to that. No, at no stage on this thread have i questioned Wotte's managerial record. I've questioned the teams record, but not Wotte. I have questioned his need to say what he said. All i hope is that we win tomorrow. And all i know is things aren't right at the club at the moment and that there is a good few people who care about this club trying to influence the change. Let's hope they do and when change comes it's positive.
