Mole Posted 17 February, 2009 Posted 17 February, 2009 Does anyone bother visiting it much anymore? It used to have balanced and well written articles, but now it's more like a party political broadcast for the Lowe Party. I hardly ever read the articles now and when i do all they achieve is to make me despise Lowe and his dutch clown even more.
ladysaint Posted 17 February, 2009 Posted 17 February, 2009 Its forever out of date they cant even keep up with their own changes.
Andy_Porter Posted 17 February, 2009 Posted 17 February, 2009 I hardly ever bother, sometimes I read the manager reactions after a game i've missed but even then I usually give up before reading it all.
NickG Posted 17 February, 2009 Posted 17 February, 2009 as always, take its opinion with pinch of salt but worth checking for news as it still well ahead of here and press
spain saint Posted 17 February, 2009 Posted 17 February, 2009 I don't bother to read it, only got here for the match commentary! I wait until someone puts up a link here for any news.(lazy barsteward i know!)
SaintRobbie Posted 17 February, 2009 Posted 17 February, 2009 Gone down hill rapidly since Hiley left (which was because of Lowe). It is truly awful, spin and propaganda = lies. Shame as its become an embarrassment again since Lowe's return.
Um Bongo Posted 17 February, 2009 Posted 17 February, 2009 What is there honestly to read? Another match report after 'playing well but not getting any points?' Woop de ****ing do. Here's an idea Rupert - Shut that down and save the money. Not worth the bother.
sadoldgit Posted 17 February, 2009 Posted 17 February, 2009 Perhaps they should just paraphrase War and Peace each week? Really what do you expect from a football club website?
Amesbury Saint Posted 17 February, 2009 Posted 17 February, 2009 each evening I load up the stock exchange website, the OS website and here. I hope to read about a Saints win - does not happen very often I hope to read about signing a quality player - see above I hope to read about a new manager who inspires - does not happen I hope to read about a new Board of Directors - see above I hope to read about a good rumour covering one of the above - that does not happen!

Just heard down the pub that David Beckham has bought us and appointed Ryan Giggs as player manager. A Saints win? I cant make that one up. HTH
Tamesaint Posted 17 February, 2009 Posted 17 February, 2009 I think that it is wonderful After all isn't it great news that we can beat Lewes reserves 2-0?? What more do the ungrsteful fans want???
Kadeem Hardison Posted 17 February, 2009 Posted 17 February, 2009 I print it out every night and staple it together so that it makes a newspaper (A4 size). I read it on the train to work every day. It is usually a really good read and I like the pictures too.
um pahars Posted 17 February, 2009 Posted 17 February, 2009 Really what do you expect from a football club website? I expect it to be up to date. And if it's too hard work or too costly, then how about asking supporters to help maintain it gratis. I'm sure there are many fans out there who would happily give their time and expertise to at least keep it up to date. (PS Kadeem, I did enjoy your stick man the other night, the one at the petrol station!!!, although i can totally understadn why it was pulled, never laughed so much in ages)
VectisSaint Posted 17 February, 2009 Posted 17 February, 2009 The OS is great. It was really exciting to read about our Reserves outclassing the mighty Lewes Reserves yesterday. Our new Reserves Manager (at least for this game) was clearly highly impressed with our win but noted that we had a problem scoring goals. Against LEWES FFS. How bad have we become, and how bad is the OS if it is bigging up this game as some sort of awesome performance. Remind me which league Lewes compete in  [Come to think of it I don't know which league they play in]
bungle Posted 17 February, 2009 Posted 17 February, 2009 Perhaps some of you need to support some teams in other sports - all sports teams websites are exactly the same, putting a positive spin on everything. Why shouldn't they - after all they are a tool to try and encourage people to come and see the product? The only sport where I have seen a fair level of editorial independence on an OS is in Major League Baseball.
Leslie Charteris Posted 17 February, 2009 Posted 17 February, 2009 What really annoys me is Sundays "The Verdict." A verdict implies making a judgement on the performance of the team. That hasn't happened, it's always been just a match report bigging up the plusses from the game, you can imagine the copywriter going "Yes boss, OK boss, I got all that..." At least this week I think I detected marginally less ar*e licking. Are Rupert's troops finally beginning to see the flaws in his plan? Oh, how I hope so. Surely even those in his inner sanctum can see that we are a car crash about to happen!
Mr X Posted 17 February, 2009 Posted 17 February, 2009 I only use it for match fixtures, its such a poor site
Rocker268 Posted 18 February, 2009 Posted 18 February, 2009 Its my home page, but I just glance at the titles thats it. Its a joke now, its just some random article about we must do this that or the other and next time we will do that but after every match its the same story poor defending and finishing
Iowsaintsfan Posted 18 February, 2009 Posted 18 February, 2009 Just use this, if there is anything of interest on there someone will post the link on here
The Tango Man Posted 18 February, 2009 Posted 18 February, 2009 Sometimes check it, lost faith in it though when I never got a reply to emails, it says a response will be given within 7 days..never heard from anyone with a answer or response.
saintjay77 Posted 18 February, 2009 Posted 18 February, 2009 I still go there and see whats going on but dont expect much so dont often get disapointed by it. Only think that gets up my nose about it is the way it does more advertising that information. Even some of the reports end with some sceme they have going where you can cough up some money to have them do something. It may be great that they are offering there physios and facilities to the general (ones who can afford it) public but I think they need to keep there scemes off the main page where wee want to read about our team.

Ive always had replys from both GH and who ever took over. Not tried in a while though so that may be a new policy they have.
brightspark Posted 18 February, 2009 Posted 18 February, 2009 I went on today to see the smiling grin of Dean Gorre clearly over the moon after our terrific win over a brilliant Lewes side. I have to say this has given me the upmost confidence we will win against Preston. If the fans get behind the team then we will win comfortably. Such a shame that they will not listen. "erm... rupert... why are you posting on my profile?" ITS PROPAGANDA.COM!!!
Sheff Saint Posted 18 February, 2009 Posted 18 February, 2009 Ive always had replys from both GH and who ever took over. Not tried in a while though so that may be a new policy they have. When we lost at Rotherham i emailed to correct them that this was the fourth year on the trot we've been knocked out the League Cup by a league 2 team, not the third as they said on the website. They didn't reply, nor correct it.
Sheff Saint Posted 18 February, 2009 Posted 18 February, 2009 Perhaps some of you need to support some teams in other sports - all sports teams websites are exactly the same, putting a positive spin on everything. Why shouldn't they - after all they are a tool to try and encourage people to come and see the product? The only sport where I have seen a fair level of editorial independence on an OS is in Major League Baseball. Doesn't mean we have to. What is the point of the clubs website? Is it to sell a product or a communication line to supporters? Well, a football club website is not a business trying to win customers to match days it is there to attract traffic to increase advertising revenue. So why does it persist with lies? Would the number of people who attend matches or view the website (and affect advertising) really go down if there was the odd self depreciating comment about the club? I doubt it. I'd even suggest it would increase traffic and revenue. A little honesty wouldn't go amiss.
adrian lord Posted 18 February, 2009 Posted 18 February, 2009 It is a waste of cyberspace. In mitigation, I guess they haven't got the resources to update it and make it really interesting since relegation.

Mr saint Posted 18 February, 2009 Posted 18 February, 2009 Sorry, going off on a very big tangent... I know they're in a very different situation to us, but has anyone seen what's happening to Weymouth at the moment? It's very sad to see a club like that going down the pan, as I've always had a soft spot for them(seen Saints there a few times during pre-season) and thought it wouldn't be long before they get up into the football league. Unfortunately they let men get involved with their club who should have had nothing to do with football (sound familiar?) Could you imagine our OS putting out desperate pleas to save our Saints should we ever sink so low, like this?: http://www.theterras.co.uk/ One thing I did notice on their website though is that appearently they contacted a number of Premiership and Championship sides to see if anyone can help them out by having bucket collections or what not around the ground. Does anyone know if Saints were contacted? Sorry again to hijack the thread, but thought it needed a mention. Could some kind soul perhaps post a thread in the Lounge about it, if it's not allowed here?

It does what it says on the tin - Official Site Gossip and opinion is for sites like this I probably can't. Does that mean we can't show imagination, certainly given our current predictament? I just think this is a really low cost, easy win thing.
scott_saints Posted 19 February, 2009 Posted 19 February, 2009 I prefer to smoke propaganja than read it.

He's right you know - I keep an eye on the FC Barcelona site and they're forever going on about how bloomin' good they are ......
Chez Posted 19 February, 2009 Posted 19 February, 2009 (edited) It took Saints years to cotton on to the world wide web, then slowly and surely they started to see the benefits and used it accordingly. Unfortunately they now take the X thousand regular visitors for granted (sounds familiar) and offer substandard content in the knowledge that they have an avid readership. I wonder how visitor numbers have faired in recent times? I suspect they have grown as more people have web access, but I wouldn't be surprised if the average number of pages people visit when they get there has fallen. Actually they might have gone up as fans desperately seek a page that contains information that is of any use at all. Teh fact remains there is always room for improvment and greater visitor numbers means greater advertising revenue - is this another case of cutting costs and hoping that customers don't notice the substandard product (sounds familiar too). At the very least I'd expect up to date player profiles on this site, and I don't see why we can't have the most comprehensive player information available on the web. Every single last bit of information should be available - height, transfer fee, contract length, kit sponsor, boot deal, game stats, opta stats even. Why on earth we don't have contract expiry dates listed i will never know. All fans want to know this. On each profile there should be all the news items related to that player - interviews, injuries, etc. How about blogs from the key players (club captain, captain, manager, kit man) giving us some inside thoughts on things - in short a bit more personal unsanitised material. Injury information is another area that could be improved. Why we can't get a weekly update I don't know. Every now and then when a player is about to be transfered we get some ******** about them stubbing a toe as an excuse for their non appearance and thats about it. Personally I find myself only checking the fixtures, perhaps finding out the cost of an away ticket and reading the managers after match comments. Even that last one has become tiresome as since Pearson and his direct honest responses dissapeared. I don't register to the SaintsTV thing, is all the good stuff to be found there? Greenridge Posted 19 February, 2009 Posted 19 February, 2009 Most peoples gripe seems not to be that the OS is propoganda orientated, as that's what you'd expect, it's the somewhat extreme levels of spin that turn worthwhile articles into matters of ridicule. For example what on earth was the Wotte article referring to the appointment of Hiddink recently all about. The only tenuous link was some kind of inferred success by association. Talk about clutching at straws.

Mole Posted 20 February, 2009 Author Posted 20 February, 2009 Source? I think he's refering to keiths match reports, which being cut and pasted from several websites, did give them balance.
Under Weststand Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 Whilst I expect the average OS to put a bit of positive spin on things I also expect some truth for the fans. I for one only ever go on now when I see a link for a certain article on this or another forum. It spouts a whole load of Sh*te at the moment with no real news. I used to use it a lot but not anymore, I think Greenridge summed it up nicely:- Most peoples gripe seems not to be that the OS is propaganda orientated, as that's what you'd expect, it's the somewhat extreme levels of spin that turn worthwhile articles into matters of ridicule. For example what on earth was the Wotte article referring to the appointment of Hiddink recently all about. The only tenuous link was some kind of inferred success by association. del boy Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 I usually look at it first, then see the same headline copied on the forum. This is very thoughtful because not everyone must be able to access other internet sites.

Think it won't be long before they're in liquidation. What a truely shi+ty season for south coast football.
