thesaint sfc Posted 17 February, 2009 Posted 17 February, 2009 http://greasemetal.31tools.com/ I've installed this to use with googlechrome so that I can use some better themes in gmail. After installing it creates an empty folder called 'userjs' in My Documents. It says quite plainly that I need to add a script to this folder. My question to you is how? I've got the script here: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/7646 When I click install it gives me the script: http://userscripts.org/scripts/source/7646.user.js But then how do I install it to the userjs folder? Do I save the page or something? Or do I put it in a text document?
TUS Posted 18 February, 2009 Posted 18 February, 2009 I suggest you read up on what Greasemonkey actually is ... and then what a Javascript file is. It will help you :-)
TUS Posted 18 February, 2009 Posted 18 February, 2009 In fact, I don't think you can even use that moneky script with greasemetal (not every script at userscripts is compatible). These links may be of interest: http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/greasemetal_greasemonkey_for_g.php http://gmailsuperclean.wordpress.com/2007/04/21/how-to-install/
TUS Posted 18 February, 2009 Posted 18 February, 2009 Install the script via monkey in Firefox and it should work.
thesaint sfc Posted 20 February, 2009 Author Posted 20 February, 2009 Thanks for the advice - I'm aware of Greasemonkey and I've used it for years. I'm also aware of what a javascript is. However there doesn't seem to be any communication between greasemetal and Google Chrome. I've since given up as I didn't want greasemetal to be another program running in the background. I much prefer Firefox personally but it doesn't work very well on my work PC. Kind of needs a fresh install of windows, but I really can't be arsed.
TUS Posted 20 February, 2009 Posted 20 February, 2009 Bottom line is that it's not compatible with Chrome (not many g/m scripts are). You tried a fresh install of Firefox? Might be worth grabbing a free app called Revo Uninstaller - forcibly removing Firefox & all associated reg keys using it, and then reinstalling.
thesaint sfc Posted 21 February, 2009 Author Posted 21 February, 2009 Greasemetal is specifically created for Google Chrome. It is the same as greasemonkey is created for firefox. My system is just generally ****e, I'm leaving soon and will take great pleasure of thinking of the unlucky sod who has to sort it all out
