bungle Posted 12 February, 2009 Posted 12 February, 2009 Has anyone had any cake today? I had a jam doughnut earlier. Not that exciting I know, but a good reliable cake - always does a job.
Scudamore Posted 12 February, 2009 Posted 12 February, 2009 I'm not sure a doughnut could be classed as a cake... Surely you need to bake a cake...not deep fry it...
bungle Posted 12 February, 2009 Author Posted 12 February, 2009 I'm not sure a doughnut could be classed as a cake... Surely you need to bake a cake...not deep fry it... This is an interesting point, and I am currently conducting research into this area.
bungle Posted 12 February, 2009 Author Posted 12 February, 2009 I had a French Fancy at lunch. Pink or yellow?
bungle Posted 12 February, 2009 Author Posted 12 February, 2009 It appears the general consensus among teh interweb is that a doughnut is a deep fried bread with filling, not a cake. I guess that means I have had no cake today.
Weston Super Saint Posted 12 February, 2009 Posted 12 February, 2009 I had a pancake. I'm assuming that counts.
bungle Posted 12 February, 2009 Author Posted 12 February, 2009 Hot Cross bun - does that count? Think that might also be a bread item?
Pancake Posted 12 February, 2009 Posted 12 February, 2009 I had a pancake. I'm assuming that counts. :smt054
bridge too far Posted 12 February, 2009 Posted 12 February, 2009 Think that might also be a bread item? Damn I shall go boil some potatoes and make a potato cake :smt115
Jillyanne Posted 12 February, 2009 Posted 12 February, 2009 Jaffa Biscuit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought we had established that!
bungle Posted 12 February, 2009 Author Posted 12 February, 2009 Biscuit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought we had established that! Umm. They are cakes. You are wrong. Still, you should have got used to the feeling of being wrong by now.

Scudamore Posted 12 February, 2009 Posted 12 February, 2009 Don't be glum. Cakes loss is deep fried bread with fillings gain. Yeah. Crepe suzette would be happy to have him.
Scudamore Posted 12 February, 2009 Posted 12 February, 2009 No wait. Pancakes are shallow fried. How silly of me...
JohnnyFartPants Posted 12 February, 2009 Posted 12 February, 2009 I think we should get off the whole, cake loss deep fried bread gain and just endorse all bakery products. At the end of the day we are on the same side. Lowe out!
Barfy Posted 12 February, 2009 Posted 12 February, 2009 No wait. Pancakes are shallow fried. How silly of me... I've deep fried pancake batter before. Rather pleasant with some thick cream. I'm not sure the appearance would meet that of the standard pancake though.
bungle Posted 12 February, 2009 Author Posted 12 February, 2009 Perhaps it would also be interesting to learn from where people purchased their cake. How many people buy their cakes from a local bakery compared to pre-packaged cakes from the supermarket? Does the quality of cake differ significantly depending on where you buy it from.
Pancake Posted 12 February, 2009 Posted 12 February, 2009 I've deep fried pancake batter before. It hurt.

What about bakeries in supermarkets? Sainsburys do a rather fine pain au raisin which often sustains me on the commute to work.

I recently bought some really yummy cakes from the farm shop at Humphrey's egg farm in Twyford. Chocolate and a lemon/lime drizzle.
OLYMPIC Posted 12 February, 2009 Posted 12 February, 2009 Fresh cake from a bakery always surpasses pre-packaged.
bridge too far Posted 12 February, 2009 Posted 12 February, 2009 Fresh cake from a bakery always surpasses pre-packaged. Can't beat the homemade ones IMO
Jillyanne Posted 12 February, 2009 Posted 12 February, 2009 Can't beat the homemade ones IMO What is your speciality?
bridge too far Posted 12 February, 2009 Posted 12 February, 2009 What is your speciality? Fruit cake (rich like a Dundee) Coffee sponge Lemon drizzle Don't make them so often these days - don't seem to have the time. Anyway they get eaten too quickly so they're not really cost effective. But it's very therapeutic - when I'm beating the cake mixture, I imagine Rupert's face is in the bowl
Ponty Posted 12 February, 2009 Posted 12 February, 2009 Fresh cake from a bakery always surpasses pre-packaged. Not if you buy it in the afternoon and it's been sat, open on a tray all day.
Ponty Posted 12 February, 2009 Posted 12 February, 2009 Not a big fan tbh. I was a baker for a couple of years and you sort of get sick of the sight..
bridge too far Posted 12 February, 2009 Posted 12 February, 2009 Ponty lurve da cake. He is named after one, after all
Julian H. Cope Posted 12 February, 2009 Posted 12 February, 2009 I made an oily loaf in my dirty bakery.

Jillyanne Posted 12 February, 2009 Posted 12 February, 2009 Vanilla Ice's for all staff at lunchtime today courtesy of my nice manager. Ice Ice Baby - nice.
Kadeem Hardison Posted 12 February, 2009 Posted 12 February, 2009 Round our way Cake is called Joss Ackland's Spunky Backpack or Hattie Jaques' Portentious Cheese Wog. One young kiddie on Cake cried all the water out of his body. Just imagine how his mother felt. It's a f*cking disgrace.
spain saint Posted 13 February, 2009 Posted 13 February, 2009 I've deep fried pancake batter before. Rather pleasant with some thick cream. I'm not sure the appearance would meet that of the standard pancake though. I had this for a snack last night! It is called churros in Spain and you dip it in chocolate mmmmmmmmmmmm............!!!!!!!
spain saint Posted 13 February, 2009 Posted 13 February, 2009 i like black c*ck in my pussy. What is this "black ****" cake you talk of?
hamster Posted 13 February, 2009 Posted 13 February, 2009 What is this "black ****" cake you talk of? I won't post the acual google results as I fear the admin team more than I fear relegation, but they are out there fsure. I believe that I can however post this one, which I beleive may actually be our very own Lisa: Maybe said cat is inside said ****erel? Revenge is tweet methinks.

I used to buy lardycake in my youth from Soothills (sp) in Fareham. It was on the corner of a street and it did the best lardycake in the world. Ponty has a very interesting story about when working as a baker and involves an injury due to checking the lardy cakes were ready, but in a very dangerous manner. I hope he opens up and tells you all, as it certainly made me aware of cake danger.
